Dyno Tuning of my Rotrex equipped Honda VFR 800 FI interceptor. FastBikes Oslo, Norway. Upgrades are comming! Project "next-level" is almost finished. VFRD headers, de-linked brakes, uprated brakes from various other Hondas and Rapidbike with LSU 4.9.

Pulling strong all the way to the rev limiter! Still surprises me how fast those gears empty out!
only thing I'm unclear on - what does "deflapped" mean? Did you get rid of the VTEC?
These bikes have a flapper in the airbox that restricts airflow at high rpm to comply with emissions standards. Many people disconnect the vacuum line and plug it.
This is the 5th gen - no vtec.

This year had GEAR driven cams and no VTEC,bike needs more power, it was designed like the RC45 engine.. that was a race bike.. this engine standard is very under powered..Pulls like a train and brilliant but needed 10-20hp more

Trak doc some bearings on the power-take-off has been changed, other than that it has been fail safe after some initial fastener issues.
Would raising the limiter keep that power going? Might need uprated internals though 🤔
Dre M yes, obviously rpm makes power, that is why the vtec makes more with the supercharger. For longevity keeping the rpm's down helps!
@Dre M - should raise the limiter to 16000rpm - that would make way more power !

Fuck these engines sound beautiful. In that room it sounds like a v8. I'd love to get a kit like this and put in a track spec kit car. I know a 1000cc is the more commonly used engine, but the character of a set up like this would be so much fun.

Danimal carnut yes, with uprated springs. A bit tiresome in the low speed urban areas, but not a big bother.

all engine / fi bits are stock, except fuel pump and fuel pressure.

Japso nothing as of today. I will do a valve check and leak down to see how things are doing on the cylinder heads. I expect there to be some tight clearances due to more heat and higher dynamic compression.
What psi are you running and total timing full boost?
ignition timing you mean? about 0.5 bar pressure @12k rpm

Where did you get the kit and what year is your bike? I have a 98. I also want those clear blinkers.
The kit came from a shop in the usa but ate now closed :( my bike is pre o2 and 1999. Whitelights.de are awesome, check them out.
Wondering how many kilometres since you fitted the kit & what issues/failures you've had.
Had some initial issues caused by heat. 35 degrees celcius and radiant heat made the locktite let go and the idler pulley started to travel. I'm on 30000 km now and no issues after this incident.
You might think so, 20.000km ago I was thinking the same... brakes are mildly upgraded, no fading and no riding it on the track. All is good :)

Hi Waken, I bought the same kit from A&A for my 5th gen, very happy with it! My hp at the wheel didn't get to the 180's though. I had the fuel injectors professionally cleaned before I installed the kit. but I'm still in the 165hp range. Mind sharing some tips how you got to the 180's? Larger fuel injectors, higher boost pressure, modified the fuel map that came with the kit??? LOVE the bike, the kit is awesome, but I know there's more power lurking in there.
tireguy sorry for not responding earlier. Some small modifications to header and shortened muffler, the rest is stock. You will never be powerfully without Dyno! I had the same numbers pre Dyno session! I guess you figured this out by now?

@WackenSS Same rider taking each bike to the track, the 954RR is more at home, I think it would do a better time. When you go beyond the awesome feeling of knowing you have accomplished some great at home engineering, you realise you're only a straight line hero :P
The cost is not an issue after the dyno numbers came along... Third gear power-wheelies is cool, but the coolest is when you pass 9000rpm in fifth gear and hit the smallest bumps in the road and the front wheel will leave the asphalt and stay up until you hit the red numbers! That is what 200 crank-HP will get you...

@WackenSS Ha ha coolio. It would be very fun to do this! As long as reliability is still good then it would make a damn good bike :) How is it for throttle response and low RPM smoothness etc? You have to get a custom map made for power commander or did A&A send the one they made?
@Th3Gr33k Easy Peasy self-fit... The only thing the VFR 800 needs is an engine! Now that it got one, it will be an pretty unbeatable package for those who love the sport/touring... Might i add: i totally killed a CBR 954 RR -01. If he only had the time to look at the stickers on the bottom of the fairing, stating that he has just been out-run by a 781cc touring bike...
