1:48:52 I think it would be ok if the curses just had the regular spawn rate like they do before "the game just got harder" secret, my rework would basically make it so their spawn rate is the same as vanilla game before harder secret but uf you didn't unlock this secret, you just won't get any curses. That way, when you do unlock them, it does actually feel meaningfully bad plus it allows speedrunners some breathing room to try to get as many completion marks before the curses become activated

Congrats! I used a diferent strategie, i used sunflower and primal sunflower spam, puff shroom to stall, cherry bomb and jalapeño as insta kills and the plants i used for attacking were melon pult and snow pea, it took a long time to find this strategie, but it worked quite well

Super Paper Mario is a masterclass at showing that the protagonist doesn't have to be the center of attention at all times. This is one of the most well-written video games I've ever played. If you haven't played this, play it.

If Super Paper Mario ever gets ported to Switch or its successor this vid inspired me to attempt another go at it!

I agree 100 percent with everything you said, TTYD is super overrated for basically every thing you said, and Paper Mario 64 is infinitely more fun and memorable Ttyd began the trend of me slowly distrusting modern Nintendo and their fans

I disagree with your Greed mode takes. I think Greed mode, if not equally as fun as the normal game, is more polished/fun than the normal game. The dynamic between "which upgrade should I buy? Should I even buy, or should I reroll? Or maybe even save up for the next floor? But what if the next floor doesn't have anything good either, should I buy the mediocre items now?" is, I think, amazing. And the game actively punished you for playing poorly (reducing your health, getting less money if you press the button, etc). I think it teaches you about how to play the game better much more effectively than the normal game mode. The game encourages for you to do better, to find new ways of using active items, to find new ways to SURVIVE with what you got. I kind of agree with the Greedier mode unlock thing, however. I think "Greedier" should be unlocked relatively soon compared to your first playthrough of Greed mode. Either at the same time, like Normal/Hard is, or at 100 coins, to make sure anyone playing Greedier mode knows what they're doing. However, I completely disagree with the whole "it forces you to replay the game many times!" bit. If you want 3,000,000% completion, you have to replay ALL the characters in both Greed AND Hard/Normal mode. Why is there no complaint about the player having to complete the normal game with all characters NINE TIMES as opposed to Greed mode's 2 per character? What about the amount of times you have to beat mom/mom's heart/isaac to unlock more content in the base game? I think your analysis/complaints are just unfair when a lot of your complaints are just... something the main game does as well, if not even worse. Greed mode is a fresh of breath air compared to the monotony of normal/hard mode, I don't get why it's such a "terrible concept" for you besides the 500 coin, holy mantle/greed unlock complaint. I agree it could be better, but I disagree that it's a "terrible concept". It's fun, and I hope you someday elaborate on your stance on greed mode instead of just off-handedly saying "I don't like it" for 5 minutes in a 3 hour video.

When I saw this guy has less than 2k subs I died inside. This is incredible! I have so much respect for people who put this much care into games and its development especially, and the person behind it. I love both the gameplay and the lore aspects so deeply. Great job!

I finally beat it this morning

Really excellent video - one comment about pay to play. While I agree it's very niche to be valuable in the main game it really shines in greed mode. When a key is 5c a pop it can easily pay for itself. Also while I agree greed mode is less compelling than the main game the wave format really can make some active items shine.

Yea no,none of tboi games are rougelites. The definition you gave is just wrong,a rougelite has a permanent post-run meta progression system,charater unlocks obviously dont count. Vampire survivors is a rougelite because someone thats playing on a 2 hour save will be 200 times weaker than a player with all achievements unlocked without any way to match that with game knowledge. In tboi however,besides the characters unlocks that change playstyle while not giving you a flat out advatange,you are a better player uniquely by what you know about the game. Your first run ever can be min maxed for 4 hours on each floor if youre good enough,vampire survivors is completely unbeatable on your first run through

If you want an example of someone who actually seems to quite like tainted Jacob, I recommend checking out the pacifist video of this game by Davey gunface. He seemed to really enjoy the character and actively admitted that character being a major part of the inspiration for the challenge.

The interview section can seem like you are just complaining about mechanics you dont like to a dev under the excuse that its an interview

I think that its a good idea that no tainted characters are in the daily runs because while you may think they are just another regular character, new players have no idea that they even exist and discovering them is a super awesome experience that would be ruined if you just randomly get T lilith because it happens to be a friday

Listened to this a while back during my shift, just remembered to come back and leave appreciation. I enjoyed this a lot; I didn't think I'd care for the interview portion but I was intrigued the whole time. Thank you for sharing such a project with us. I as well hope this sees more an more attention soon, it certainly deserves it.
