Maria Muldaur acompanied by Bob Dylan and his band - San Francisco 1980
Maria Muldaur, acompanied by Bob Dylan and his band, sings Nobody's Fault But Mine (Blind Willie Johnson cover) at Fox Warfield Theatre. San Francisco, California on 19th November 1980.
Muldaur was part of the Greenwich Village scene that included Bob Dylan and released solo albums throughout the 1960s and 1970s. Some of her recollections of the period, particularly with respect to Dylan, appear in Martin Scorsese’s 2005 documentary film, No Direction Home.
Muldaur established a relationship with the Grateful Dead. Opening for some Grateful Dead shows in the summer of 1974, with John Kahn, bassist of the Jerry Garcia Band, eventually earned her a seat in that group as a backing vocalist in the late 1970s.
"Maria Muldaur is best known world-wide for her 1973 mega-hit “Midnight at the Oasis,” which received several Grammy nominations, and enshrined her forever in the hearts of Baby Boomers everywhere; but despite her considerable pop music success, her 60 year career could best be described as a long and adventurous odyssey through the various forms of American Roots Music.
During the Folk Revival of the early '60s, she began exploring and singing early Blues, Bluegrass and Appalachian “Old Timey” Music, beginning her recording career in 1963 with the Even Dozen Jug Band, and shortly thereafter joining the very popular Jim Kweskin Jug Band, touring and recording with them throughout the '60s." Listen to the song that "struck" Bob Dylan (in his words), when he watched Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds performing at the Accor Arena in Paris on November 17, 2024. "This song is called JOY, ... It's a blues song" (Nick Cave). Last week, Bob Dylan made a post on X complimenting Nick Cave on his show: “I was really struck by that song Joy where he sings ‘We’ve all had too much sorrow, now it the ti...

Was there. Amazing recording!!! Great Show. Key West and Every Grain of Sand were pure magic!!!
I really liked Maria in the Dylan documentary Scorsese did "No Direction Home". Seems like a really good person. So this is a great treat and what a voice! Thank you Bobfan. Have a fabulous day to all fellow Dylan followers ❤❤ xx
i love it so rock !!!!! thanks again Bobfan a great post good afternoon ♥♥♥
I remember leaving Wembley Stadium in 1984 and hearing someone say "well that's the last time we'll ever be able to hear Bob Dylan live"!
Alright time for music on other phone just music only😊❤
Respect to an amazing artist but it sounds like a gin and razorblades song, not joy. IMO.
Pleasure Nice 🔥 as musicians 😊
Well I am glad that both Cave and Dylan found some common ground in that song (or the concert as a whole ). I can relate to it myself I think. I am also glad that Warren Ellis is credited as co-songwriter because he has done a lot for Cave in the past many years.
Two magnificent renditions one with youth’s impatience and the newest version with the tenderness of age. Both are unique explorations of the heart. 💞 🎶🎤🎹❤️🥰
I once experienced joy after I took Ectasy and it has happened naturally but not often enough.Nick and Bob are the knights of constant sorrow it may even have improved them as artists and as exceptional human beings It certainty has deepened. them
Ian McLagen on keys is the bee's knees.
This is really cool. Always thought Maria was great. She recorded an album of Dylan's love songs called "Heart of Mine" It's a very nice listen.
Thanks Bobfan! I knew the name but can't say I've heard her before - she can really sing! Bob would have his incredible gospel band backing at this time which suits this old song by Blind Willie Johnson for sure! You don't need to know the bible inside out and backwards to be saved. It's a compass helps you navigate though. Being saved is as simple as being sorry for our failings and this: "Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved..." It's all about faith in what He has done for us and despite us! I believe! 🙌 Thanks for your description and link to 2024 concert! Nice they met again recently.
❤❤❤

Still going strong sounds great Bravo Bravo Bravo. Blessings and prayers to him always XOXOX. Respectfully and sincerely. 🙌💯💞👏👏👏👏💖💋💋🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏😘😘😘
what a joy to read this. Perhaps both of them are readers of their elder W. S. Merwin, "There are so many words for sadness/ and for joy so few/ maybe none/ that can tell/ the sound of that secret spring"
Till the end
🙏🤟🤙
Blessed. .
❤️🎶unforgetable 2. blessed BOB~nights,thank you for letting me be There again,great sound🎶🔥❤️👍
Thank you. What a treat. And the sound is so good!
Thank you for posting, thank you Mr Dylan for your amazing performances over the years especially this one, heartfelt delivery brought a little tear, keep on keeping on Mr Dylan...
Schöner Film über diesen wirklichen, -eben nicht theoretischen-, Existenzialisten. Danke!
Darling, I know you have your music and destiny 💞🌹 Beth, Happy Thanksgiving 🦃 my love 💗
I didn't know Bucky when you posted this. I knew the music not the names. I really love Bucky's steel playing and also all the other string instruments he played with Bob. He and Bob had beautiful musical rapport and mutual intuition! I still think about Bucky and look forward to meeting him in heaven someday! 🙌🕯️🕊️
🎉
O my sweet love who stands at the door and knocks Oh my sweet love who stands at the door and knocks There is such Joy in our heart Such Joy in our heart To all who opens
♥♥♥♥♥♥
Bob is sad, unsatisfied and full of sorrrow. I met him in ERFURT/ KREUZGASSE at the 7th of octobre. Mr. DYLAN, if you read this, give me a sign, send me a message. By the way, this joy-song depresses you. I can't find joy in this song. HAVE MERCY ON ME
@Mamablissios I agree with you, you are so right. He has to confess to Jesus. Before then, he is not allowed to leave this world. No offense, Bob. 😇 🎸
because Bob Dylan dreams about walking through fire
Michael McLoughlin I thank you too Bobfan I thought this was great & to be praised by Bob Dylan has to be special. Just wondering have you heard Nick Cave & Shane Magowan singing "What a wonderful world" together-you'd like it.
Thank you Bobfan! l think it's so great that you shared this! I had read what Bob said and Nick's letter of response! So nice how one word from Bob means so much and especially an acknowledgement of agreement! Encouragement with love can really have a deep impact 🥰sometimes! Keep up the great work BF - it is much appreciated!
I was a little disappointed that he didn't make to Dublin this time ,I suppose Bob We're all pushing on a bit, nevertheless thanks for all the greatest songs/ poetry and more .
"... now it is the time for joy".... Since we can forget all sad things ever happen....🤔🤔 But this is as a prayer... and It is wonderful.... Thanks, Neverending...🙏🙏🌻🌻🙌🙌
Such joy I never heard. Eh? thx
🎉
2024
Love both versions. There's nothing I don't like about any version of any song. Mr Dylan you do no wrong. Thank you Bobfan as always ❤❤ xx
❤🕯🎶🎵👍
His pack with the evil one is completed.....
Darling, I wish you a happy thankful my love 💗 Elizabeth
Darling you are in my heart and soul ❣️ please stay there 💗
there we recognize a genius two versions totally opposite but so poignant, I have loved this song since 1966 and all the different versions thank you for making this post have a nice day Bobfam ♥♥♥
I was at this show and this is the second recording that I have listened to. It seems to me better that the Flagging Down the Double E's recording. Can it be made available split into into separate tracks. Well done to the taper, a magnificent memory of a great evening.
I love you Bob Dylan ❤️ We love you, we will will always love you 💕
