Спасибо большое маэстро я лишний раз убеждаюсь в своей правоте, когда я своим ученикам говорю что надо обязательно слушать и слышать мелодическую линию на протяжении всей пьесы и выделят и контролировать

While technical mastery of the piece you are playing is always the first priority, what then separates good players from a solo virtuoso is the incorporation of dynamics in tone, volume, phrasing etc etc, and it's this aspect that the audience particularly connects with because you're then much, much more able to guide their emotional response to your playing way beyond that achieved through technical mastery along. All the 'greats' have mastered both.

This is a beautiful piece open to differing artistic interpretations---the key is to be emotional and play with tempo and volume changes--excatily where is a bit subjective----just make sure you don't sound like a typewriter---for me I keep the tremole light and in the distance with that base knocking is where I play with the tempo and dynamics. You know you played it right if you are holding back the tears. A knocking at the soul by the angle of death.

It’s so hard to transmit / communicate these things! They talk about the same paragraph but they are a world apart and the gap is rarely bridged.

I feel that anyone who attends a master class like this needs to be a certain standard to begin with. All master classes are about musicality not so much about technique the master expects you to have already achieved a certain level of skill in your playing before attending. I think the master here was being very kind to you in his appraisal .

Some of this information is redundant and possibly misleading. It is better to revert to the original piano score, which is one key above the arrangement. Watch out for the E natural harmonic minor tone descending and not E flat. (in the piano score) The rule is that the accidental continues for the whole bar unless flattened again (which is in the key signature). I noticed other wrong notes later as well when compared with Albeniz original. Also the E in the bass of the first harmony continues as a 'pedal' into the succeeding dominant 7th harmony, as the F does in the Albeniz original. My advice for what it's worth ? Get a good licentiate diploma with harmony and counterpoint as part of the syllabus and possibly some composition lessons for a few years and THEN look at some of these keyboard works. If possible, avoid Segovia and others . . . they had no academic training, least of all in composition. Piano lessons are also helpful. If you haven't even passed Grade 8 theory ABRSM, then you are on shaky ground. D C Roberts Ex University of Wales Music Dept's Cardiff and Swansea tel 07939663419

His comment on the first appearance of the G minor as the dramatic moment is really interesting. I play the Barreuco transcription and he keeps that line an octave lower. One nice feature of that transcription is that he is able to continue the rhythmic bass figure under that scale run on Bb (5:22). Neither David nor the student seem to be doing that, so I wonder which transcription this is.

14:49 Thank you for posting these series of master classes. The choice of Granada makes the class appealing to the audience. Love the comment “Keep it flying” to explain keeping the tempo of melody line moving forward. I studied this piece with Bill Viola, founder of the Philadelphia Classical Guitar Society. Posting in memory of Mr Viola, an original guitar enthusiast and teacher

I was a kid into Metallica, in my 20s thinking I was good, saw John Williams play this on TV….only 1 guitar. I kinda gave up. There are not enough hours in the day. 30 years on,still not enough hours in the day. Some peoples brains are just way more impressive than mine. Nothing I can do…sob sob

These VL preludes tempt so many to try without the required absolutely solid technique and attention to detail , they are so beautiful and at a glance seem so accessible and almost casual but fall apart quickly if the player is over extending themselves, they are full of nuisances and ornaments and every one of them essential to the integrity …. I should know I’ve butchered them for years! 😳😂
