Here we are in Morrisville NC on October 10th, 2024 as we see Amtrak Carolinian Train 79 cruising through with P42 174, which was the first P42 to have the Phase VII livery applied.
Iconic Heritage Colors At Speed On Amtrak Silver Meteor Train 98

Here we are in the very early morning hours of Wednesday November 13th, as Amtrak Silver Meteor train 98 zips through Benson NC with Amtrak heritage locomotives 164 (wearing the Phase IV paint) and 161 (wearing the Phase I paint). Given the P42 days are numbered, this sight of a heritage duo isn’t very likely to happen again.
A New Star Is Reborn: The Amtrak Floridian

November 10th would be the last day North Carolina would experience the Amtrak Silver Star before being temporarily replaced by Amtrak’s reinstated Floridian.

Here we see NS 6D4 cruising through Cary, NC on October 14th with NS 4436, which is equipped with a nice sounding P3 horn. Certainly a nice change from the K5LAs and K5HLs I’ve been accustomed to.

P42 23 has been on my list of P42s to see because of its BEEFY K5LA that was mounted to this locomotive some time ago. Here we see this locomotive leading Amtrak Silver Star train 92 out of Cary, NC heading northbound.
CSX 521 - One Of The Most Interesting Horns I’ve Heard

Here is CSX M409-06 slamming the diamond at Selma NC on September 7th, 2024. In the lead of this train is CSX locomotive 521, equipped with one of the most unique sounding K5LAs. As it got close to midnight, the sound of this horn in the distance made for an eerie setting.

Here is CSX I031 crossing the Selma interlocking at the Selma Amtrak Station. This was a giant train with two ES40DC gevos pulling hard as they bring this train towards Jacksonville Florida.

Here we see Amtrak Carolinian train 80 trying to compete the rest of its route to New York after suffering multiple hours of delays caused by Hurricane Helene and the damage it left behind in NC. It was running close to 8 hours late as it coasted through this small NC town. Thoughts and prayers go out to those affected by this horrific hurricane. North Carolina strong!
