I grew up in Orange County, SoCal. I now reside in Castle Rock, Colorado. In the 70s I flew hang gliders. In the 80s I flew hot air balloons. In the 90s I focused on my career as a manufacturing engineer at McDonnell Douglas and Boeing, working on Delta II, III, & IV rockets. I was a workaholic. In the early 2000s I slowed to a better work-life balance. I finished my career and retired from ULA in 2016. For the last 20 years my interests have been white water rafting and world travel.
Northern European Cruise
Sandi and I went on a cruise in Northern Europe in September 2024.

Sandi and I hiked in Snow Canyon State Park. We saw a desert tortoise and a rattlesnake while we were on the hike. It is a couple miles from our house.

Are used to live in a bus at Escape Country first place I ever flew. Then on to lake Elsinore. went to Sarah, Gordo and Yosemite to help film with Japanese. Awesome time in my life.

1970-ish I built a "Batso" from plans listed in The Whole Earth Catalog. Bamboo and plastic drop cloth. A whole lot of cheap fun. Later went on to skydiving, ballooning, paragliding and then airships. Tried a Rogallo Trike once but didn't like the constant noise. I'm 73 now and no longer fly, but enjoyed the pioneering days of personal aviation.
After I had kids I stopped flying hang gliders. I built a one man hot air balloon based on hang glider technology that I could take off and land using my feet. Here's some photos: www.flickr.com/photos/185055346@N07/albums/72177720315599771

I started flying in 1973 with Free Flight Systems standard hang glider. I am now 69 and sold my last hang glider after my final flight in Oklahoma. There were health issues that I could no longer ignore that could indeed interfere with flight safety. No regrets. Many great adventures starting in Southern Cal and ending in Arkansas and Oklahoma. Never had an injury in all those years. Still remains the greatest sport as far as I am concerned.

My 1st glider was a bamboo Butterfly built in 1971. We took it to the 1st hang glider meet held on Lilienthal's birthday.

Aaah, you got there eariler in 2021 than 2019. That's quite a beach. Do you have any footage of the tree just outside Cathedral? It should have been mostly out of water. This year, I imagine it's totally out of water. I hope it doesn't (hasn't) fall(en) over. If you hadn't cut the shot at 6:04, the tree would be in the video.

Good ol' Escape Country :) Thanks for sharing!! Who is that with the SST looking wing? I knew that rigid looked familiar! I've seen the small scale of it in you dad's hands at gatherings at Dockweiler! My first vario was of course a Colver :)
That's my Dad face planting in his SST almost on the concrete walkway.
@@mattcolver1 When I switched to prone my takeoffs immediately got a lot better and I didn't get those "nose pops"(like what your Dad did here) that happened when I flew seated.

Not long, maybe a half hour, 45 minute. I think it may be a mile or less.

Thank you! Interesting to think this was all under water. Does anyone know if the white mineral deposits would wear off the rocks? & if so how long it would take? I can't decide if it's hiding the beauty of the red rocks or adding positive contrast to them.
From what I've seen the bathtub ring can go away fairly quick. The top 50 feet of the ring hasn't seen reservoir water for 20 years. That section of the ring is almost back to the original color. So it goes away in about 20 years.
1:35 I am not familiar with the wonders of Lake Powell. You spent a lot time at a location that I wonder if it’s not a female anatomical reference beginning at 1:35?
