    Have you ever thought about playing with physical cards instead of TTS?

      I assume you mean on videos since I do play the physical version when I'm not recording. Yeah, I thought about it, but unfortunately I don't have the equipment to really make it work well enough, and I really dislike playing with blurry cards that are impossible to read and understand what's going on if you don't know the text by heart.

Shadowcat 7. Captain America 8. Black Panther 9. Thor 10. Cable I'm trying really hard to love Nightcrawler, but I haven't found an aspect/build I really enjoy with him yet. His kit conflicts a bit for me instead of running smoothly, so that's my current project. Magneto seems pretty fun so far too. If I could extend my personal list out a few places, you'd probably see Cyclops, Phoenix, Spider-Woman, and Doctor Strange. Cheers!

  • @javgoro

    Solid insights for the most part. A good way to dip your toes into deckbuilding is to check out popular decks in MarvelCDB and see why they work (those that have a good writeup are a good example) or modifying them to fit your preferences. Personally, I almost always deckbuild from scratch, and most of the time it works, and sometimes it doesn't because the hero wants to do something that I didn't expect or catch because I didn't look at their cards enough. There is one bit where I'm going to disagree a little, because I've seen it become sort of a mantra in the community, and it really bothers me; trimming down to 40 cards. This isn't always the right (or necessary) thing to do. Let me explain (and bear with me, it's going to be a bit long): Trimming decks to minimum size is usually (but not always) the most efficient thing to do. Keeping decks at minimum size has, for a long time, been an accepted truth of M:tG, and as such, many players bring that idea over to Marvel Champions. However, in M:tG you only draw one card per turn in most cases, and there's no such thing as cycling through your deck, and so the math in Marvel Champions changes substantially. In Marvel Champions, you draw 5, 6 or often more cards per turn. When it comes to drawing that one good card you want, the difference between having 42 cards in your deck instead of 40 is often irrelevant or very small (if we're discussing probability). Also, there's a high variance in how often you see your better cards based on deck construction. A 42 card deck that manages to play 10 upgrades and keeps them on the table will see "their good cards" a lot more often than a 40 card deck that only places 2 upgrades. So it's not as clear cut as "having 40 cards in your deck means you see your good cards more often". Finally, some heroes have hero cards that either aren't very good, or you don't want to play them until halfway through the game (Phoenix and Cable are good examples of this, where you want to use their hero specific cards once you've built your engine, but they aren't efficient prior to that). So for these heroes, having a slightly larger deck can even be beneficial. To be clear: I'm not saying people shouldn't try to be efficient and trim down to 40 cards. They should if they can. But they shouldn't take it as the capital sin against deckbuilding that I've seen some people present this as, and as a community we should put less emphasis on the specific "40 cards" number and more on "trim your deck from situational or unnecessary stuff".

    • @AncientSlumber
      @AncientSlumber День тому

      I actually completely agree with both of your points! I do think that checking decks on MCdb is a good idea and probably should have mentioned it in my video tbh. I also agree with the idea that going over 40 isn't a cardinal sin in MC. I think it's completely fine and won't change the power of the deck TOO much. Like I said in the video, it's a pet peeve of mine to go over 40, which is why I don't really do that. With that said, I still believe that a 40 cards deck will always be better than a 41 cards deck, even if you don't want to see some your cards until the end of the game. Is the advantage minimal? sure! But I think it's still there.

  • @AdamSingle

    I am new to both the game and to tabletop simulator. I have learnt a lot about both from your videos. Thank you. There are two interactions you do in this video that I haven’t seen before and can’t find documented. One is you send a card to your hand. For the other, ironheart has her three versions and I assume they’re there as a stack of three. Somehow when you go up a version you’re doing it with a shortcut. I assume you’re sending the top card to the bottom? How do you do that? Keep up the great content, and I do hope you record a video with the Iceman deck you built, I quite enjoy his frozen mechanic.

    • @AncientSlumber
      @AncientSlumber День тому

      Hey Adam, I appreciate the kind words <3 I'll try to record an Iceman game in the next few days! Regarding those 2 interactions: 1. Once you take a sit at the table, if you hover a card/deck, you can press a number on your keyboard (note: not the keypad) to draw cards equal to the number you pressed. So for example, pressing 1 will draw 1 card from the stack that you're hovering, and pressing 14 will draw 14 cards (you can press more than 1 digit as long as you do it quickly enough). 2. Regarding Heroes with multiple versions/forms (Ironheart, Ant-Man, Angel, etc'), the way they are built in this mod is that they have a few states inside 1 card (similar to the damage counters for example if you play with state form and not clickable form). So once you hover Ironheart for example, you press 2 to go to her version 2 or 3 to go to her version 3. In this case, it will not draw the card, but change the state of the card instead. Another option is so right click the card, go to state, and then choose which state you want (1, 2 or 3). I hope this made sense! Let me know if you have any other questions :)

    • @AdamSingle
      @AdamSingle День тому

      @ thanks for the response. I knew about the numbers to draw from a deck. But I’m sure I saw you have a single card, face up on the table and you sent it to your hand. @@AncientSlumber Yes, you probably would've won in the next round regardless. Ironheart at that point of the game is too strong. Btw, how do you like Go For Champions? Nick Fury Jr was created for Marvel's Ultimates universe stories and was the inspiration for why they cast Samual L. Jackson. A few years ago, in the comics they did a storyline that "merged" the Utilmates universe into the main Marvel universe and retconned that Jr was the long lost son of the original Nick Fury.

    I'm not sure I agree at all though tbf I don't really know Starlord or Adam! Or Storm who may well be S solo given that I got bored playing her as she was a bit too damaging. I think you are probably right with Ironheart in the decks built to upgrade her really fast. She's another one I find rather dull as it's just upgrade upgrade win. I am adamant you are wrong about Phoenix, unless you have expanded S tier to be so broad as to need another S+ tier. She struggles with minions and her economy is not that great really. her upgrades are mediocre. Her events are good once she is unleashed but not before. Compared to say Venom she is very lacklustre! Hawkeye is maybe my underrated pick. He is not great but he is very functional & can be made to work. People group him with Valkyrie/Hulk/Warmachine who do not function very well and he's markedly than that. Mind you the card pool now is so strong that anyone can be made to work in some deck. Looking forward to overrated heroes!

    Came here from your Web-Warrior vid, this is great :) I haven't played many heroes yet (new-ish to the game), so this gives me some cool choices to check out next!

    I would not say Ironheart or Quill are underrated. I agree on Adam, and I’d add Vision, Rocket, and Spectrum as heroes that aren’t talked about much, and underrated imo.

    • @AncientSlumber
      @AncientSlumber 5 днів тому

      Completely valid point! Out of curiosity, would you say that Ironheart is considered by the community one of the best Heroes in the game, or do you agree that she's not rated that high but think that Vision, Rocket, and Spectrum are more underrated than her? Honestly Vision was the first Hero that came into mind when I made this list and I was surprised I couldn't find almost any negative comments about him on social media and tier lists! Some people think he's boring (shame!), but pretty much everyone that I saw found him very strong. Rocket and Spectrum are a different matter though and I would love to hear how you would rate them and how do you think the community views them.

    Suggestion: I think you need to add a little music here and there? Or is this 100% live?

    • @AncientSlumber
      @AncientSlumber 5 днів тому

      Interesting! This is not live and I never really thought about adding music. Would you add it as a general background noise or between transitions? How would you think it would work best?

    • @IamJFD
      @IamJFD 5 днів тому

      @AncientSlumber i think experiment for now? I think its best between transitions. But could also work bg noise but very minimal when you talk so it wont overlap

    I'd definitely say Colossus, Vision and Gamora!...Each have their own camp of fans...but you generally don't hear about them when heroes are generally discussed and ranked

    • @AncientSlumber
      @AncientSlumber 5 днів тому

      Interesting! Colossus is one that I haven't played that much and I thought the community perception of him is rather decent. Where would you rank him? Vision and Gamora were both on my short list of Heroes so I'm definitely in agreement there :)

      @Rey_Plays_Games 5 днів тому

      @AncientSlumber ooooh, I'll give it some thought as to where to rank him...but yeah I tend to think he surprises people..! Yeah totally agree with you on Gamora and Vision...so very different and unique in their own ways!

    I'm saying Hawkeye, Storm, Ghost-Spider, Quicksilver, and Nebula.

    • @AncientSlumber
      @AncientSlumber 5 днів тому

      Nebula was on my shortlist of Heroes as well but ended up just outside my top 5. I'm interested in your reasoning for Hawkeye, Ghost-Spider and Quicksilver though! Do you rank them highly?

    A deckbuilding epsiode from scratch would be nice. Not a how to use Marvelcdb, but start with a blank deck put in cards remove cards out in cards and your thought process. E.g. Spiderman and come and get me bub Something like that old hero new card

    I agree with most your list. Especially phoenix. I think another underrated hero is War Machine and Rocket. Both can do a lot more than just deal damage!

      I'm ashamed to say that War Machine is one of the only Heroes I never tried. I hear so many good things about him that I should definitely try him out soon. I really like Rocket, I think he has a lot of potential that people didn't discover!

    I feel like luck plays a larger in losses than in winning. What is a good win rate to feel proud of?

    • @AncientSlumber
      @AncientSlumber 7 днів тому

      Wow, that's a very tough question to answer... It really depends on: 1. How strong the Hero that you are playing is 2. How difficult the Villain that you are playing against is 3. What difficulty you're playing The answer is a mix of all of those. For example, when playing the strongest Heroes in the game against Medium difficulty Villains on Expert, I'd expect a 100% win rate, but that changes dramatically if you're playing low tier Heroes. If you give me the parameters that you're playing at, I'll try to give the best estimate that I can regarding what's a good win rate is.

    • @prufrock1977
      @prufrock1977 7 днів тому

      @ I have been dipping my toes into expert. I have a limited card pool, and I enjoy protection even though I play true solo.

    • @AncientSlumber
      @AncientSlumber 7 днів тому

      Sounds like you're a relatively new player (or at least new for expert)? I wouldn't put too much importance on win rates if that's the case. I think that in any good game, losing is inevitable and important in order to get better. I would even go as far as to say that losing is fun! If you would win all the time, that would become boring very quickly. I would try to ignore win rates for now and just try to get better every time you play. If you learn something new and got a little better when you finish a game, that's a win right there!

    This is a good guide. The checklist is something I was thinking about recently as it was familiar from the miniatures game Warmachine that I played a lot. Can I win? How do I not lose? What crisis must I deal with? How do I progress my board state? Some of these principals are also there in Bridge, which I have not played in decades. The idea that if there is only one way to win then you play for that even if it's unlikely, which is a mix of your quick win & take risks. I have before chosen not to block when any boost would finish me as I felt I needed my activation to get things under control to have any chance of winning in the future. I have also lost a lot by flipping to AE for just one more card but not recently. On your optimal play I am pretty sure that the energy spear on Cosmo is not it. You'd be better off playing Legion to give you extra protection against villain attacks. I guess Cosmo can attack safely into retaliate with Magick's ability but it seems an inefficient way to get one damage.

    • @AncientSlumber
      @AncientSlumber 7 днів тому

      Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it :) I definitely agree with everything you wrote - taking a risk and not blocking even if it might kill you is often something that needs to be considered. I think I should have probably explained it better in the video, but when I tried to explain what I would do in the examples at the end of the video, I wasn't considering the actual cards in my hands. I tried to look at it in a more high level way and go through the checklist if that makes sense (otherwise it would probably make the video a bit too long trying to explain every option).

    Good Job! There's a lot of errors here that I assume you will have sorted out by now but just in case (they almost all work against you anyway) You do deal 6 damage to White Tiger. 10:50 She only TAKES 1 which is not relevant here You forget Spider sense a lot :) Stage 3 Ultron does not get drones when he attacks 38:07 Black cat does not have a consequential damage on her attack 13:00

    awesome video found it through the discord. (I was thinking: "Somebody else must have had the problem i have") Two question though - Is there a way to start the game ( clear the villians and the recomended modular sets) EDIT: I found out there's a "recall" button to remove all the Villains and you can delete the recomended modules with delete - for playing two handed, i just sit at another playmat and import the deck there, is that right?

    • @AncientSlumber
      @AncientSlumber 10 днів тому

      Hey, thanks! - I guess you mean restart the game? There's no easy way to do that through the mod, which is why I recommend saving the game before starting to play so you can load right back in :) - Exactly, you just sit at another playmat and import everything there and then move to whichever seat you feel like
