Cool game! I don’t understand how you’re going to win AP but looking forward to learning something new. When you started stacking defensively vs Toku I was surprised you didn’t go with Machine Guns to put a bigger dent in his initial attack. Seems like this was their time to shine vs Infantry, Cannons, Cavs and you’d save some hammers.

@@ItsJussCrypto Thanks! The honest answer is that I can’t remember why I didn’t build MGs but I probably didn’t think about it! I think what I was really doing was building an army to cap AC and unscientifically leaving some units behind to defend against Toku if he attacked while I was still at war with Rome. Retrofitting an explanation, it’s not clear to me that machine guns would have been better. Churchill is protective so I assume the infantry I was building were promoted to city garrison 3 and drill 1 or the inverse. That compares with drill 2 machine guns. City garrison 3 gives you +75% city defence which, combined with the higher base strength, is probably better than the first strikes from drill promotions and the MG’s base first strike and the +50% against gunpowder units. The fact that the MGs wouldn’t have taken collateral damage would have had to do a fair bit of work for them to have faired better. Maybe immunity to collateral damage would have meant they were a better choice. Again the honest answer is that I don’t know and you may be right. I’ve not got a lot of experience of defending because it’s rarely a good idea so I try not to practice it! I suspect I just needed more units to defend and my units were doing something more useful in Roman territory. AP victory would basically mean capping everybody I could and converting as many of my vassals’ cities to Hinduism as I could and then, probably, forcing them all out of Hinduism so only I could be elected pope. Then everybody except Giggles, SB and potentially Rome - depending on whether I could cap him - would vote for me. That should be enough because they’d have more Hindu pop than the civs I hadn’t capped. It’s a cheap way to win because it’s like diplo but you don’t need to be liked by the civs representing the bull of the world’s pop. This wouldn’t be the cheapest AP win because at least Hinduism was well spread. You can win very cheesy AP victories with a religion that has barely spread.

I have only watched to this point so I have no idea how effective this attack will be but I'm really learning a lot from the preparation I am (happily) a perpetual IMM player who usually wins but struggles MIGHTILY in games like this without an early wonder and/or high commerce. I'm really amazed at what you're able to do in the early game with just these dry cottages, coast, and fail gold from a marble trade in terms of getting where you needed to go for the key techs. Then the way you used just food/pop'n to set up that golden age catapult to steel is something I always manage to screw up I only watched like 40% of the Ragnar game before taking a civ4 break but I will return to it at some point now that I'm back to playing some games. Will be eagerly watching this one as much as time allows, great job Jim!

Thank you! I learnt all the build up stuff from watching Lain. His Zara game is super impressive in that respect if you want to see something similar. I think the Ragnar game is worth watching to the end even if generally the game becomes less interesting in its later stages. Without wanting to spoil it, it remains in the balance for longer than most games.

Strange. It works for me. Is this any better? forums.civfanatics.com/threads/nobles-club-357-churchill-of-england.690297/ If not, it should be easy enough to find on the forums and it's definitely a map worth playing. I'd like to see how it plays out in a different game!

Thank you for posting this! First couple of videos were a little tough to follow but really enjoyed it once you got going. I’m an IMM player who usually wins but I would have lost this map 100 out of 100 times. Some REALLY good tricks to navigating a tough situation, I’m on part 6 and looking forward to seeing how it turns out 👍

Thank you. That's really kind and I'm glad you're enjoying it! Was it just the sound that made the early videos difficult to follow? I need to find a solution to that, although I think it gets a lot better. Or was there anything else you think I should work on? Any feedback much appreciated :-)
