    I’ve driven for so many years but only in my small local town but I wanted to be able to drive to places further afield so I booked a block of 5 hours of driving lessons with a driving instructor, most of them said to me they’re fully booked up or they didn’t reply back to me but I kept on trying and I eventually found one, we went to Loughborough, Syston and Leicester, it was my first time driving on a dual carriageway and I had so much fun. I really enjoyed myself, but driving at 70mph and then coming back down to 40mph or 30mph you really have to watch your speed because it’ll seem so slow, I then really wanted to experience driving on a motorway so I went on the motorway alone by myself, I drove to Fosse Park in Leicester alone, I got on very well, some people recommend having a few driving lessons on the motorway first before going on there alone but it depends on what you feel comfortable with, I felt like I didn’t need to go on it with a driving instructor, as long as you read up in the Highway Code about the motorway rules and you understand lane discipline spiral roundabouts and what the different colour of cats eyes mean then you’re all good.

      @d4drivingSOM 3 дні тому

      @WayneTulip-zm9gw Thank you for your comment. You're quite right, you may not need an instructor to show you the ropes on a motorway but most people would feel more confident after taking a few lessons in the safety of an instructor's dual-controlled car. Speed awareness is a very important skill. Especially after driving for a long period with higher speeds, you must re-adjust to driving again when going into a 40, 30 or even 20 zone.

    • @WayneTulip-zm9gw
      @WayneTulip-zm9gw 3 дні тому

      That’s alright, no problem at all, you’re always very welcome, my pleasure. 🙃 That’s very true, speed awareness is so important, now that I’ve experienced driving on 70mph unrestricted dual carriageways and motorways even driving at 50mph or 60mph seems so slow. ☺️ You’re absolutely right, it depends on what is best for you, I also think knowing what the slip road motorway signs mean is very important because you need to know whether you need to merge in with traffic on the main carriageway or whether the lane that you’re in creates a new lane on the main carriageway.

    If the speed is that slow why do tbey bother with a physical barrier or gap. Seems unnecessary.

    • @d4drivingSOM
      @d4drivingSOM 7 днів тому

      I am talking about the road classification. They are classed as dual carriageways if there is a physical separation between the opposite flows of traffic. The fact if the road is a dual or a single carriageway does not depend on it's speed limit.

    • @WayneTulip-zm9gw
      @WayneTulip-zm9gw 3 дні тому

      That’s right, speed doesn’t define what a dual carriageway is, some dual carriageways are 30mph, some are 40mph, some are 70mph, what makes it a dual carriageway is the presence of a central reservation, some people think it’s to do with the number of lanes but that is a common misconception, some single carriageways have 4 lanes, some dual carriageways have 2 lanes, speed and the number of lanes is irrelevant, a single carriageway has no central reservation, a dual carriageway has a central reservation.

    • @willzander6514
      @willzander6514 3 дні тому

      @WayneTulip-zm9gw I'm surprised since in the US that doesn't seem to be the case. Two-way roads (dual carriageways) don't necessarily have anything separating them other than a double yellow line indicating that the line can't be crossed. Some have a small mound of concrete separating the two directions of traffic and/or a guard rail; others may have a plot of land in between the two directions. So where you are ALL two way traffic roads have either a plot of land or some type of physical barrier?

    • @WayneTulip-zm9gw
      @WayneTulip-zm9gw 2 дні тому

      I can’t really comment on the USA because I’ve never been there but yes, here in the UK all single carriageways don’t have a central reservation and all dual carriageways have a central reservation, we need to know if the road is a single carriageway or a dual carriageway so we know what the speed limit is, a speed limit of 30mph applies to all single and dual carriageways with street lights, unless there are signs showing otherwise, except for motorways, motorways will always have a speed limit of 70mph, unless there are signs showing otherwise, there is 1 exception however, the A38(M) is the only single carriageway (no central reservation) motorway in the UK and it has 7 lanes that operate a tidal flow system, thank you very much for being so nice, it’s nice to have just a nice normal simple pleasant conversation. 🙃 On some other UA-cam channels I’ve made comments and I’ve got some very nasty responses.

    • @willzander6514
      @willzander6514 2 дні тому

      @WayneTulip-zm9gw you're welcome. All too often my experiences are not as pleasant as this either. In the US you can't really tell the speed limit from the type of road. Seems much more orderly where you are.

    That lorry driver was really bad there pulling out on you 😭 During a test situation should you react exactly as you did there?

    • @d4drivingSOM
      @d4drivingSOM 13 днів тому

      Yes, I'd react exactly like that if I was having a test. With a big vehicle like that, you should expect them to pull out very slowly. The only reasonable reaction to that would be slowing down and letting the lorry emerge. I hope you would not sound the horn there as that would be pointless and unnecessary. A bit of awareness, anticipation, and planning should do the trick :)

  • @keyllablaine4723
    @keyllablaine4723 15 днів тому

    Very good video,my instructor let starts check from right when I do pulling up on the right, before I move off, but i could see you did your check from the the left

    • @d4drivingSOM
      @d4drivingSOM 14 днів тому

      The observations should be effective, so yes you can start your observations from the right when you're about to re-join the left lane. It is crucial, however to bear in mind that your primary area of attention is to the left, so do that check before moving off.

    • @d4drivingSOM
      @d4drivingSOM 19 днів тому

      Sonia did ease off gas there on approach, the situation was clear with good visibility to the right and ahead. Why slow down much if you see it's clear? You will be marked for not slowing down if you cannot clearly see what's going on while approaching a junction or a roundabout and still proceeding.

    • @MrJohn8apie
      @MrJohn8apie 19 днів тому
