Im sitting here going 'just set all thrusters to override and you can make it to space with no modifications'. You don't even need a cockpit.

This was actually a really well executed game for the standards of it's time. The controls were innovative and much more like the modern dual analog FPS standard than any game before it, at least in the sense that it separated the movement and look inputs so you could move and aim independently. It was awkward to handle at first, but worked quite well once you got used to it. It gave the player much more agility in movement and aiming than, say, Goldeneye, which used the analog stick for both and relied on a very generous auto-aim. It always seemed to me that Turok's controls attempted to approximate the precision of a mouse/keyboard setup as much as possible with a controller. It got praised then for it's enormous outdoor environments (basically unprecedented in the genre then), great graphics, quality animation and sound design. A common criticism was the lack of variety in scenery. Overall from an early 1997 perspective, it was one of the more impressive N64 games so far. By far the best way to play it now is the Nightdive Studios remaster.

Back in my day you spent your weekly allowance and rented this from the local blockbuster for the weekend. Then u loaded it up and said this is shit but you figured you may as well play it since u spent all ur allowance on it

If you ever come back to the N64 version of this; Pull up the map overlay. The marker for where you are on the map also works as a crosshair, for easier aiming. And you have a map. Win-win.
