Last part of our ride in Chimney Rock. The YZ250X gets pretty good mileage and even better mileage in the mountains. I used to run a IMS tank, but it broke. The biggest factor in mileage on any carb bike is setting the float height and good jetting. Stick around to the end to see my MPG.

    The Keihin PWK is a rock-solid, factory-equipped, conventional jet/needle carburetor that has more than earned its reputation, but the fact that your Keihin is running rich at these elevations with your summer jetting are obvious. The air screw can only do so much. Moreover the elevation/temperature compensation given by the metering rod carburetors, and in particular the one with integrated, at-manifold venting (SmartCarb), are only one of the benefits they offer and that draw people to make the switch. Added performance and fuel economy, along with tool-free external adjustability are others, at least with the SC2. We see that you've tried the Billetron Pro and it would be unfortunate for you to lump us into the same category given they are not at all the same thing. Reach out direct if you would. That place looks fun! I run my keihin on stock jetting on my Beta 300RE, just went up a clip on needle, and we ride from 2K to 12K in elevation in a day. It's a little lean until 4K and a little rich above 8-9K but overall it handles it just fine. I opened the power valve up 3/4 turn and really it's barely noticeable. Keihin really is so much better than Mikuni carbs. I think people exaggerate the jetting and really like to tinker on their bikes so they feel like their at peak performance, but let's be honest, 99% of us are not pushing these bikes hard enough, nor are we skilled enough to either benefit or suffer significantly from a little carb setting. So long as it will idle and doesn't stall when you crack the throttle, that's good enough for 95% of riders. 4% of us could use a little adjustment if we are really charging some bigger hills above 5K. I live at sea level so I'm biased, but we primarily ride in the mountains. If I lived at 5K and was only going higher than i may make a jetting change but the bike absolutely rips wherever I take it.

    hello, i have had the yz250x in chile for 2 years and i do some hard enduro and racing, i have made several modifications and am testing the bike, for now i have: 13 tooth sprocket, 51 rear sprocket, 8 ounce flywheel, lowered head like a yz cross, for more pleasure, electric fan and external dewalt drill battery. the bike is left with very good acceleration at low speed for trailer enduro. can you make a list of your changes? i see that you were also able to get a hitlis kit, this in theory would replace the flywheel and the cylinder head approx? with the hitlis kit i understand the bike is more progressive but does it really have more engine power at low speed? or do you have to put a weighted flywheel anyway.

    • @SingletrackStafford
      @SingletrackStafford 29 днів тому

      @@Villalobos_822 it doesn't replace the head and flywheel. I run the mx head and GYTR flywheel as well. HITLIS makes everything work better. The bike is smoother and more powerful.

    So basically Hitlis allows good throttle "response"... However it removes the powerband "surge"/"hit".... -YZ250X -GYTR flywheel should be added first ...less clutching, less stalling...still rippy/fun

      Removes the light switch power, adds over rev and cleans up the bottom in my experience.

      @@jonsainsbury8726 current mods: GYTR flywheel, HITLIS, yz250 head, 40 power jet and N3EJ needle in the summer N3CJ in the winter. It's way better than when I just had an APEX head, GYTR and good jetting. Those mods are fine but you get a way better running bike with the HITLIS. Apex head didn't really improve the bike much in my experience.
