How I took this IMPOSSIBLE photo | Green Race
The footage and photos of the Green Race are from before Hurricane Helene went through. The entire river has been mostly reshaped and does not look much the same anymore.
Here is a donation link to the Green River Recovery Fund (I am not affiliated with them in any way): secure.everyaction.com/KVCzX0W0WUGAmJtQCcMmSA2
This was my first time ever showing up to the Green Race, it was a fantastic time. I can't wait for the next one whenever they are ready to do another race. The world of whitewater sports is vastly underrated. I hope I can shine a light on this interesting world with my video and photos.
The location is called the Green River Narrows. Special thanks to my friend Jacob Israel for helping me get some of this footage.

What was at the Fire Tower? | A True Halloween Story
Переглядів 11 тис.Місяць тому
Todays video is talking about a strange and kinda creepy time in the woods of Appalachia. Happy Halloween I was taking trips around the area and some landmarks to get photos for post cards, because my work had terrible post cards. I ended up getting a couple "side quests" before I ended up ACTUALLY making it to the fire tower I kept trying to go to. This is a true story, what do you think was i...

    At first, I thought it might have been a starling or something bc they’re remarkably good at mimicry of human speech. Then, after it moved to another place I thought maybe two starlings that had learned the phrase from each other. They are also known to imitate car alarms very well. So I’m lol imagining how many hikers these birds have trolled to constantly repeat not only "Hey!" but also “Hello!" They might be singlehandedly responsible for all reports of mimics (the paranormal phenomena kind) on the AT. It is notorious for spooky stuff…. Until you mentioned the broken sticks… maybe two sounds of different animals? Not when the direction of the speech sound comes from same direction as the steps and breaking sticks AND the direction it’s coming from keeps switching rapidly. So, then I thought it was most likely a hiker who took a shortcut using your voice to locate the trail. That’s why they were moving so quickly, they went straight. They probably didn’t want to be caught in the dark on a sketchy trail full of rocks and hollows. They were probably just as wary about you as you were about them. Imagine being asked if you were a human… it might not occur to you that the person is asking bc all you’ve said is "Hey" or "Hello". You might wonder why they ask and decide it’s not a question you want answers to before reaching the trail to assess the situation. Lol they probably wondered if you were hallucinating or delusional and whether or not you were safe to approach. Wondering all this, in the dark, in the woods, with bear smells, after they left the trail to catch up to talk to you. Now, they realize they might be following a mentally unstable person in the woods at night… but they still have to depend on your voice to relocate the trail…. Maybe they thought it was best to let you assume they were maybe not human? If you assumed they were a delusion, maybe they wouldn’t be in danger Idk. Then it occurred to me they might have just been using your voice to tell when you had left the area, but that doesn’t explain why they’d follow you or how they moved around so quickly or WHY anyone would be worried about your exact location or proximity to something… except that they wanted you to leave for some reason- so weird. It would be extremely strange if you went back and it happened, again.

      Yeah, starling is a good theory. I think it has to have been a bird, if it was a hiker they'd have needed to traverse a cliff and some very dense foliage and loose rocks to get to me.

    I wouldn't be so Bearanoid unless of course the area has some recent issues, which are kinda rare on the east coast. Maybe do a little research on the whole Skinwalker thing its recent manifestation is bunk, but the reality of it from Canadian indigenous peoples is just as scary if not more. You should go back to the HEY site and don't respond unless it gets really close and then demand it says its name. I've had some crows make some really odd sounds, deer make an odd grunt when startled and obviously bear do some huffing and puffing. How fast it was moving makes me think bird, but when you got stalked that obviously points in another direction, don't go alone and be "prepared". It would be awesome to get some audio if it does return. Great story thanks for sharing!

    • @lukefellnerphotography
      @lukefellnerphotography Місяць тому

      @@rcm944 yeah, Crow or Raven sounds very possible. They can immitate peoples voices and are pretty intelligent. I like to imagine that it's some unknown Appalachian creature that lures people in by mimicking another person in the woods. There's already the legend in Appalachia that if you are alone in the woods and you hear someone call out your name, you don't respond to it. Ultimately, I'm not sure what it was, doesn't need to be supernatural or cryptid to freak me out about that situation. But fun to speculate. Also, regarding Bears, I'm always extea cautious. People underestimate the black bears in Western NC. They focus on the statistics without considering that, those are just confirmed bear or mountain lion killings. If a bear or mountain lion gets someone and nobody is around to see or hear it, then it's a "missing person" which there is a much higher rate of in Western NC. Particularly, you need to watch out for male Black Bears, there's 1 for every 10 female because they are hyper territorial and they get significantly larger than the females. In Western NC they range from 200 to 700 pounds, Eastern NC had the largest Black Bear at over 800 pounds. Which is a monster lol. I go out alone into these remote areas of Western NC so much that the rare shit is more likely for me. It only takes one day of having your guard down for you to become a "missing person" Thanks for watching and thanks for the feedback! It's fun speculating on this stuff, my favorite stories to share with other hikers in WNC are the ghostly and supernatural stuff, which Appalachia has no shortage of.

    This is pedantic but I think is worth saying: for some reason its taken off to call mysterious stuff that happens in the Appalachians "skin walkers". That's from the tribes out West. No one here ever called it skin walkers, but the Cherokee did have stories about Tsul 'Kalu, a giant that lived in the forest. Some of the happens in the mountains might have been chalked up to "the Little People" though I don't know if the Eastern tribes had many stories about them. The Scoth-Irish that later settled in the mountains brought their folklore, and so fey and other old European spirits got added to the mix. Just so there's some regional context :)

    • @lukefellnerphotography
      @lukefellnerphotography Місяць тому

      @@knightsofnee8626 Yeah, I'm aware of the Skinwalkers origins, it's kinda a placeholder among a lot of people for "Unknown humanoid creature" The Cherokee in the area had a legend about the Moon Eyed People, but they weren't scary types from what I remember, just friendly short people who built some old structures in the area. There were also stories of witches that can shapeshift, like a skinwalker, amongst both natives and settlers. I'm not sure if that one is a Cherokee, Catawba, or Shawnee legend. The Skinwalker is an Algonquin legend I think, which there were tribes in Eastern NC who belonged to the Algonquin language group. It's possible there are legends which cross over through tribal interactions. There are other legends like Judaculla or the Devil that lived in Devils Courthouse which could have similar behaviors. I don't know. But you're right, Skinwalker is more of a western US and Canada thing, I'm not here to take that away from them. Just, there are tons of stories of people in Western NC and other Appalachian areas hearing their name called out in the woods when alone, or hearing people talk to them who aren't there. Appalachia is a weird place lol. Thanks for the comment, I love discussing this stuff. Where I worked at the time had people from all over the US and Canada who worked in the Outdoor Sports industry, so we'd share our cryptid and ghost stories around the fire. With my story, I think it was likely a Raven or Crow just imitating a persons voice, but it freaked me out at the time haha.

      I actually have found this tripod to be perfectly fine for hiking. I have done an 8 mile hike with it, I was sore, of course, but I don’t think it was due to the tripod. It was just the nature of an 8 mile hike. The only issue I had with it was the amount of space it took up in my backpack. But, I fixed that by just fastening it on the outside. Smaller and lighter tripods are significantly more expensive and less durable, in my experience

    Why anyone would put $8,000 to 30,000 worth of photo gear on top of an inexpensive tripod is beyond me! A quality tripod is an essential piece of gear for any photographer.

    • @lukefellnerphotography
      @lukefellnerphotography 10 місяців тому

      I found a quality tripod for 70 dollars. Also, the vast majority of photographers and videographers, I'd bet, aren't using 8,000 dollars worth of gear. The most expensive camera I've ever used was for a live production and that was probably 3,000 dollars of equipment, entirely handheld, but if a tripod was needed I would have trusted this one to hold it. I wouldn't mistaken price for quality. You can find crappy tripods and equipment all over the price range. What's important is checking the reviews and knowing what YOU need. Besides, by the time a photographer is using 8,000 dollars in camera equipment, they've reached a point where they know what they need or they have an employer who will provide it. This video is for the beginner photographer shopping for their first tripod, so they don't get hung up on the most expensive things being pushed. As a side note, I probably spent 500 dollars on my first camera with all equipment included. I still use it today for some professional work and it got me the photos and video needed to get to where I am a professional. Thank you for watching and thank you for your comment.

    I used the cheapest $40 amazon tripod for about 2 years before switching to a Sachtler Flowtech that's 50x the price. Difference is incomparable - one of those expensive purchases that hurts when you buy it, but something I've never regretted afterwards. Biggest advantage is being able to adjust everything from the top very quickly versus leaning down to the ground to adjust 6 or 9 separate leg clamps. I found myself much more motived to keep moving tripod around as desired because adjustment was effortless. The cheap tripod was hassle to use so it discouraged me from changing positions. But definitely agree with you that it isn't necessary to begin, and starting with the cheapest one gave me more appreciation for the features I wanted when I was in position to upgrade.

      You seem to have the same experience I've had haha. My philosophy in this video was to encourage beginners to get simply what they need, not the most expensive thing. It's much better than getting an expensive tripod and realizing you don't really use them all thay much. For example, I rarely use my tripod on most trips. Long exposures aren't my style outside of very rare shots. I also make most of my money with whitewater sports photography, which a tripod is just something in the way and an extra piece of crap on the backpack for those types of shots. I'm glad I went cheap, because this does what I need when I need it but hasn't been necessary for the majority of my needs. Thank you for watching and providing your experience

    Let me disagree with you. Putting your expensive camera gear on a cheap tripod is asking for trouble. It would be like putting used tires on an expensive car.

      I disagree, I have heard of tripod failures across the price range. It's most important to check the reviews when searching for your tripod. Hence why I suggested making sure to get something that won't break your camera. I have used cheap and expensive tripods, ones with fluid drag heads while working for live productions. And I can tell you that I can trust this 70 dollar tripod just as much as the ones given to me by employers for certain jobs. I've been using it and hiking with it for a year now, never had a failure from it with very heavy use on some hikes that were definitely not convenient to bring a tripod to. But, I do think this is a personal decision. You are completely correct in going with what makes you more comfortable. This video is more for the beginner photographer whose whole kit probably costs less than some tripods I've used.

    hi can you tell me the brand and the name of this tripod !!

    • @lukefellnerphotography
      @lukefellnerphotography 10 місяців тому

      Magnus tripod. Idk the exact product name. I bought it on B&H if that helps you find it. If you can't find it, then I recommend just looking for a well reviewed tripod for the price range you're looking for. If it's 40 dollars and it has a lot of reviews that say it's reliable and has the features you need, then I'd say it's a great buy. Just be careful of products that only have 1 or 9 reviews on their page. Sometimes scam companies will post a few reviews themselves to trick people. You can find this at any price range with almost any product, it's just a general rule of thumb that applies to anything on the internet

    100% agree with SirSieg. I dig old cars myself. Btw the Prowler is a newer car. Also the nitrous is not used for racing it’s for huffing 😁 I’ll post a pic in the Guilded of my ‘65 Hopefully see you tonight on your stream

      Work is weird, waking up at 4am, driving an hour or two to various schools, then working 10-12 hours 5 days a week. Would be a fun job but it's run poorly so I often have to fix things, figure stuff out, and negotiate stuff on the fly
