My sister called me because her washer quit working, told me she believed something may have gotten between the drum and tub, spent an hour trying to get the plate off with no success. Tried running the washer with the bolt loosened to see if that would help it come loose and noticed that the motor was misbehaving. Removed the hall effect sensor, brought it home for testing, found out the Hb sensor is dead. Turning the motor while the washer was on its side, I did hear some odd noises coming from the tub, which means there are some things rolling around in there that need to be removed. When I return to my sister's place with the new sensor and hopefully get a positive result on the motor fix, I will try a few kettles worth of boiling water on the loosened bolt before starting a sanitary wash cycle and hope that will loosen the grime and rust on the splines enough to come off willingly. If my sister has CLR, I will give that a shot before upgrading to potentially unreasonable force. If it is still uncooperative, I will loop the steel cable under the plate, over my jack sitting on the 2x6 across the tub and hope it comes with minimal or no damage. If even hydraulic pulling fails, I'm out of ideas.
Thank you so much for the video brother!
awesome video. I cleaned the entire unit. plate and the drum and still getting the brown flakes. any idea on if it may be a drain with residue coming back into washer?
Do you see scud in your wash plate in between metal and plastic part ? I also saw brown flakes after I did it the first time. I kept running mine with the afresh cleaning pods after and wiped out the flakes until they were very minimal.
@ I honestly didn’t think to see if they were in between the plastic and the metal. I just cleaned the exteriors and continued to clean out the drain holes with a toothpick. It’s very possible that there is some residual left inside that plate. I saw on another page that a person took them off and put them in the shower and just cleaned it with the wand and another one that took it off and soaked it in a bathtub.I’m gonna continue to run a couple of more clean tub cycles to see if it will be reduced. I have noticed and the course of doing all of this that there is significantly less flaking.
How did you get the water out of the drum holder (the white after you removed the drum)
You can try and soak up the soapy water with some towels and then let it drain using the drain function on the washer.
Thank you for this step by step!
You’re welcome !
Great video, step by step, thx alot
Thanks !
Why is the wash plate so difficult to remove? I gave up and put the center screw back in and just cleaned the center cap
Watch my other video
Thanks for the video. Super helpful.
Thanks!
Can you remove the tub without removing the grey piece at the top?
I don’t believe so
Improvised some picks with wire hangers. Several 4 letter words later it budged. I was thinking CLR… Think about a 90 day schedule to use the washing machine cleaner solid at the hardware store.
You did a great job on this video I have the same one 👍
Thanks!
Thanks for the video and information. I did try all methods and unfortunately i was unable to remove the wash plate. The cap and bolt were easy. Nothing else worked. if I pulled any harder on the wash plate I'm certain something else would have broke. I cant even get off to replace the wash plate. I guess i trash the washer and buy a different brand once the dirt gets too bad. Thanks anyway.
I would let it sit for a few days with CLR or keep running cycles with the bolt off
@GuyTriesDIY Are you Recommending CLR just in the bolt area or in the whole wash plate.
Anyone else having the issue with the debris being in between the chrome and white plastic of the wash plate / agitator? Solutions or fixes?
That’s when you want to just buy a new one it’s impossible to get it all out
Citric acid and a cycle with hot water and the wash plate popped off on its own
Does this washer have any sort of filter on the back that can be removed and cleaned?
Mine doesn’t no some do
I want to see the part which holds the gear box
Hi it looks good. My LG fuzzi logic looks different where you need to take out the plate. No place for wire's to pull it out.
If it’s really stuck especially a plastic whirlpool the air shims actually cracked the plate in half
Just run a clean cycle after taking out the bolt - it'll be floating within 5 minutes. I did add a cup of vinegar to the clean cycle. My drain pump wasn't working so I did have to bail out the water a second time. But sure beats the frustration of trying to get it out any other way.
Thanks, I added some vinegar and started the tub clean cycle without the bolt and it floated up in less than 5 minutes.
The major problem with these agitators is that the shiny metal sheet is loosely attached to the plastic body of the agitator. As a result of that major flaw, mold can grow in the space between the two surfaces and there is no way to separate the two without damaging the agitator. I've done all the cleaning shown in videos and gunk still keeps coming out from inside the agitator through the little openings (holes).
Is it ok to use the tide pods or any brand of washing pods ?
Yes just make sure to use the cleaning pods once a month as well
This so helpful brother. Thank you!
Thank you!
This was fabulously helpful Good job on the vidio
Thanks!
Amazing videos, thank you for sharing they helped so much. Our washer plate was super stuck and my husband couldn’t get it off so I poured boiling water with vinegar let it soak for 30 mins and sprayed a bit of WD40 where the bolt is and then ran a wash with Hot water and 15 mins into the washer it popped off and was floating. 🙏🏼
You babble WAY too much! This video should have been 10 minutes long. Get to the disassembly immediately!!
I have another five minute video on my channel. That’s the quick version.
CLR worked for me in 10 seconds. Thank you, thank you thank you!!!!!!!!!
If you can get the air shim completely under the plate, you’re probably gonna have a better time. But if they’re sticking out, you’re adding resistance making it harder to remove the plate. I would think a hot wash cycle before might make it easier. Obviously a heat gun would be more effective than a hairdryer, but obviously you can burn yourself and that’s not good. Building a little jig with a 2 x 4 in nylon strap and a car tire scissor jack would potentially do it as well
Thank you soooo much! Gonna try to do this tomorrow.
I’m at a loss I’ve done all the tricks plus others I’ve found online it’s been 3 days and I cannot for the life of me get the wash plate off, help!
Don’t “jimmy” your screwdriver 😭🤣 You can gently push the tabs back with the screwdriver and it won’t break. Insert flathead into holes and push the handle of the screwdriver away from the center of your machine (causing the other end of your flathead to push towards the center) this will release the tab. Do it in each hole and it slides out easily. Thanks for the video brother!
Thanks!
If anyone has suggestions how to deal with lint. this machine doesnt have lint filter. After wash all the clothes contains huge amount of lint. Its very painful.
Yes, I would like to see you maintain/clean a dryer too. Thanks.
Thanks for the video. Super helpful. I took mine apart, cleaned the drum and everything I could touch and removed the drain hose. About 20 clean cycles later, I still have black flakes in the water. Are there other places?
Did you try the cleaning pods? Also is your wash plate look like there is gunk in between metal and plastic pieces ?
Did you figure out what the issue was?
This exactly the video I needed. I’m just like you. It’d be my first time doing this deep cleaning. Hopefully I won’t run into any issues. I’m also replacing the water solenoid part because mine is leaking.
You got this!
This was great! Mine had never been deep cleaned for over 10 years! My problem now is getting tub mounted back on...mine has bolts coming up from mounting hub and nuts screw on from top...and some fell out and there isn't space to hold bolt and position through hole to screw on. Little annoying now have to remove the stuck large nut at center to get mounting hub off
Good luck !
CLR did the trick. Thank you!
Glad it helped!
What about the dirty soapy water you had from cleaning the plastic tub? Will that drain out when you run the machine?
I believe I tried to get the really soapy water out with a towel first but it should drain out yes especially after running a couple times with just cleaning pods
Informative. Thank you. You did great!
Thanks!
Do you a video for machine not draining properly
Are you stilling having an issue ?
Hi Guy! This is super helpful, my washer looks just like yours. I’m looking to clean the white plastic bin starting at 12 minutes, but am not sure how the drain the water and rinse it out before putting the drum back in. How did you do it? Thanks I’m advance!
If it’s just a little it will drain out on its own if it’s a lot you may need to soak it up with sponge / towel
I tried all those and it’s still stuck
I would try CLR and let it sit for a while and even add more if needed
@@GuyTriesDIY already did. Still no luck
Why not just put some bleach on it.
I personally have never used bleach
God, I’m so sick of messing with this washer. I’m so tired of cleaning it and I’m not very handy, so I don’t think I can manage taking it apart. I clean it religiously. What is causing the corrosion on the wheel / arm? Is there a way to prevent it from reoccurring? Have you tried CLR? I’ve read that it’s an easy solution to run it through?
Yes you could try a little bit of it but I have a link to the cleaning pods I started using and have not had this issue again
I'm losing my damn mind over this video it is so funny and helpful. I feel like I know exactly how to completely take my washing machine apart and put it back together and I have the engineering savvy of a 6 year old. Someone please PLEASE stop me 😂
UA-cam makes an engineer out of all of us.😂
just a question, why does the washing machine make a hum when it puts water in, is it because of the weak flow of water from the tap? Advance thanks for your answer😊😊😊hope u reply i really need to know plssss😣
Yes it could be due to that. Can check the water supply hoses and water pressure in the home.
Thanks! Some 20 year old CLR did the trick for me. That was so frustrating. Thanks for the tips! Now I'm back to look for how to take out the tub. It seems just as stuck, though it's currently soaking in CLR.
Glad it helped!
This video was a godsend. I tried WD40 and the thing still wouldn't budge. I noticed some of the other comments said to let the tub clean run with the bolt holding the plate either loose or removed. I kept it loose, ran s tub clean for about 10 minutes and after it drained the plate lifted right up. I think a loosening agent and letting it run a little was the trick.
Awesome!
My only concern with doing this is the possibility of water leaking from where the bolt was. Did you have this problem?
Numerous cleaning cycles, CLR, WD-40, baking soda/vinegar, boiling water, compressed air, coat hangers and shoes strings to pull. Nothing will work. I'm going to buy a new washing plate bc I'll have to destroy this one to hopefully remove it. I'd order the win bags but I'm done spending time, money, and energy. Need to wash clothes.
Sounds look like the right choice in your case but be careful!
How to prevent this from happening again
Use less detergent don’t overfill, once a month or more use these cleaner pods Active Washing Machine Cleaner Pods: amzn.to/3P5F89h
Thank you. This video helped us so much today! Random question - when we took out the entire drum we could hear water sloshing around inside the rim? Or maybe sloshing around inside the entire thing? Do you know what that is? Does that water cycle through and/or is there a sludgey inside that I missed cleaning?
You’re welcome that is normal to have water in the drum mine had it too
