One Foot Footloose
New Zealand
Приєднався 24 гру 2016
Hi. I’m a LBKA with a RTKR.
I’m an athlete (I have represented NZ at elite level as a para-athlete) and part time self employed.
This is my journey. It’s real, it’s honest, it includes both physical and mental struggles.

#281 Tall Poppy syndrome in NZ
Tall Poppy syndrome is a term that I have heard around and about but not really paid much attention to, till I spoke to the press and it was mentioned a heck of a lot more.
But, what is it exactly and how does it alter social expectations in New Zealand?

Well this was a bolt out of the blue. The old vascular damage caused by my original missed diagnosis comes back to bite me, meaning I’m now not allowed to walk for a while.

#277 A typical trip to the limb centre

It’s 210km away. Typically I have to drive the 420km return trip in a day because I can’t get the cost of a hotel covered. It’s bloody hard going, let me tell you
#276 Donating blood - or so I thought
Переглядів 382 місяці тому
For over 12 years I have been banned from giving blood due to CJD in the 1980’s in Britain. Finally that ban was lifted. I attended my first blood donor appt in NZ today. But CJD was the least of my problems. #blooddonor #CJD

In the 2 months or so since challenge wanaka I have put exercise on the back burner and decided to focus on my mental health instead. Here’s the progress I have made. #PTSD #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness
#274 Elite Para Waka Ama: why I have decided to quit
Переглядів 602 місяці тому
After making this announcement privately to the manager, coach and team, I have decided to make the public aware of what goes on behind the selection scenes and why - after on 18 months in the sport, I have decided to quit. Let’s face it, quitting is not something do that often. So there must be a big reason, right? #paraathlete #disability #disabilityawareness #amputee

Melanie & Peter’s Honeymoon 2024
Переглядів 1073 місяці тому
We probably wouldn’t have even gone on holiday had my dad and his partner not been here. Originally I thought few people would be able to say they took their Dad on their honeymoon, but so far, everyone I have said this too has told me they did too! So maybe a bit more common than I first realised!

Trip to France 2023 Part #5 Final Summary

Trip to France 2023 Part #5 Final Summary
Thanks! I'll practice now. I had both knees replaced at the same time 11 years ago. I fell recently, then scooted on the floor to the couch and wriggled my back up onto the couch as I used my lower body, almost like a bridge to try to push. Then found myself struggling my clothes not going smoothly over the couch cushions. It was a nightmare. I'm trying this in the future.
Torn meniscus 6 years ago , bs doctors want to cut out the torn cartilage . Also got a CGM monitor a couple months ago . CGM monitor is the second useful thing i have gotten from a doctor . First was an MRI .
So use the other knee slightly
That is so frustrating for you. It’s no wonder you’ve felt so low.
The infrastructure of our country is nearly destroyed. I hate to say it, but i'd go private at least for the assessment/diagnosis My father was ignored for a few year after seeing cancer like symptoms He's fine now thank god
I’m so glad your father is ok. Now. But yes you’re right. The shocking thing is, there is no option to go private - the only place that does the scan is in the public health system. Now how screwed is that.
@@OneFootLoose I wish you all the luck I can spare !
I truly hope that you get the help that you need. I'm glad to hear that you and your GP are both advocating for your health.
Thank you. I’m so lucky to have an awesome GP
Oh nooo! So sorry 😞 Hope all improves soon!
That's not the floor, that's the ground
🫣😬
Cool. I'm renovating and much older, have to work at floor level often, and do find standing up rapidly a problem.
have had a total left knee replacement and this is the way.
Hope your knee replacement was better than mine. I’m 31/2 months out and still having extreme pain.
It took many months for mine to settle down. And even longer before I stopped being conscious of it feeling like an alien body part.
I’ll have to try that. As it is I have to crawl towards a counter or chair then use my arms to help lift myself off the floor
Great, but what if you need shoulder surgery… 😂
Ummmm 🤨 😆
Exactly what I used to do before getting each of my knees replaced. Exactly what I've done in the years since getting them replaced. At least they don't hurt when I'm standing or walking.
I would love to have you on all fours Perfect thickness
I am male and 89 years old and that is exactly how I get up and down when necessary.
How tall are you lol
5 ft 11. 🤷🏼♀️
What's this shite
Ever watch wrestling and see those guys just kick their legs and flip up? That's not how I do it either lol
😂
Thanks for sharing your experience and being so direct and helpful. 😊
😎😎
Please don't lose that beautiful rump..😮
Nice. Thank you ❤
Ahh of course ...cock push ups ok got it👌🏻
I have to get my right knee replacement to. Thanks for the demo.
Old man here I have been doing this for years .
How did the surgery go?
Great. Rehab was gnarly though!
I had a knee op last July -first two weeks were sleepless and hellacious …but it DOES get better. As I am sure you know , you’ve just got to DO the @#$& exercises. I had additional physio and the therapist kicked me out the end of October , laughing that I was wasting her time, I was so good. That knee has not given me a second’s problem since. Yes, it was worth it. And I worked out how to get up, just like you do, a year or so ago….
Fabulous! And yes rehab sucks big time! But once that’s done it’s great afterwards!
Thank you so much. This video will gladly be living rent free in my head. My kneecap was dislocated three times, and I don't even bend my knee to pick something off the floor. If I ever need to get up, without pressuring my knee's, this is the answer. Thank you for showing it!
I haven’t had surgery, but sometimes I’m scrubbing the floor and I wonder “How the heck am I gonna get up from here??”. Now I know what to do!
I don’t see how that doesn’t put pressure on the left leg and knee
I needed to see this. I had knee surgery for a cracked kneecap yesterday. Don't plan of falling but this is great! For just pushing up from a chair or off edge of bed. Hope your recovery went well!
I've had a bad knee for years, can't fully bend or straighten it, and this is more or less how I get up and down. Although I usually just trying to avoid getting down to begin with.
Ha! So do I! (Avoid getting down unless I have to!
🎉that’s brilliant, as a lady of advancing years and not as nimble as I once was this is a great help.
Thankyou luv ❤ that help me , sincerely Coll 👌🏻👍🏻🏴🇬🇧
I already do a version of this. I look like a toddler with my butt stuck up in the air, but it works.
Seriously?! A tutorial on how to get up from the floor? What the hell happened to the world?
You never know ? You may need to know that one day ! In the fulness of time dearheart
Very good ideas 💡
Thank you very much I've had this problem for 40 years
This might also work for those with an artificial hip.
Did you fart just then ??
Wonderful what a great idea and your video was so short and to the point God bless and love to all
Oh wow! Not good!😢
Indeed!
I need this, and haven't had a knee replacement ( yet) , and thanks for the brevity without annoying music!❤
i couldnt even get a bar for my bathroom, also an amputee. 6 years now
That’s terrible. 😣
Most women would have made this into a 10 minute video. Bless you my dear lady.
😂😂😂
This is great, thank you! I wonder, if the dinosaurs knew this, if they'd still be extinct right now?
Yoga pose down dog
Exactly how I do it! Had knee surgery 6 months ago for a torn medial meniscus. Still hurst a little but I exercise my upper body so I can use upper body strength to get up. No problem!
Try doing that after your knee replacement
Hi there. I can still do it this way, with my knee replacement and my left leg amputation. 😃
