TIPM fuel pump relay repair 2015 Dodge Ram
Tutorial on how to fix the famous TIPM relay failure on Mopar vehicles. This specific truck is a 2015 Dodge Ram 2500 with the 5.7L Hemi. Instructions should be similar for other Mopar vehicles with a Hemi.

Gulf Coast Jeepers tackle the Rubicon Trail in one day. We started at Loon Lake and finished up in Tahoe. Although we planned to try to run it in one day, we brought enough supplies for over 5 days and plenty of tools. Luckily we didn't have any major holdups and were able to complete the trail in one day. We arrived to the Loon Lake staging area around 8:00AM and exited the Tahoe side of the t...

Could it still be it if there isn’t a burnt prong?
Sounds Great
Why is there no class action lawsuit? Just fixed this failure in my 16 EcoDiesel. I counted 13 plug-in relays in my TIPM and 3 unused slots... easily relpacable relays, but one of the very few that will leave you on the side of the road was deliberately made non-servicable. I can tell you they've also made it extremely difficult for even an experienced electronics tech to get in and replace that relay. This has been a consistent design AND problem since they started using power modules. That's asinine. The NTSB recall on the Durango calls it a safety hazard, but most vehicles used the EXACT same module, and even the new TIPM has a non serviceable relay. $1100 for a new module. As an electronics engineer I can tell you these modules cost less than $100 to manufacture and probably less than $50 considering the quantity they order. Certainly less if it's not populated with fuses and relays.
I just used this on a 17 jeep grand Cherokee with a 3.6. Worked surprisingly. There is no literature for one this new. Thanks so much. All wires in box, same color. Box is a little different. But it worked perfectly!!
Not a good idea to wire up that way. In a wreck, with key on, and a fuel leak, the pump keeps pumping. A lawyer would have a field day if there were injuries or death from a fire.
What are the symtoms of this happening? My has long starts alot but always starts
thank you for this video after replacing my tipm for the third. time I did the by pass relay and it works just fine I tried ordering the by pass kit but everyone wanted 120-190 I went to Summit Racing and got it for 40. once again thank you
Question is the same wiring diagram for 2015 .grand cherokee 3.6 engine
Just did this on a 2014 Ram w Hemi. It fired right up. Thank you so much. I’ve never left a comment on a video before. This one deserves it.
Saludos bueno muy bueno, gracias
Hs anyone had a p0300 or p0306 due to this situation? Help me
Question..what is another wire I could go to to get power if I messed up that brown wire?
Great video. Works on not only gas engines it worked on my 2016 ram 1500 with a 3.0 Ecodiesel in case anyone was wondering 👍
thanks for the comment cuz i was wondering the same thing. i have a 16 ecodiesel as well and am having the same issue
I was wondering as well. 2015 with the Eco.
Getting a parasitic battery drain after doing this. Can't seem to find what is causing it
Im in florida 30 mins outside of tamapa feel like doing my truck?
Shouldn't the Brown wire (signal) should be in the C3 (Black) harness?
Please don't follow this. Do yourself a favor and pay the $20 for 1 month access to ALLDATA. He says himself in the video that the instructions he has are even for a ram but he assumes that the wire colors are the same. He is completely wrong. He says himself in the video that the instructions he has aren't even for a ram but he assumes that the wire colors are the same. He is completely wrong. After burning up 2 relays over a period of about 2 and a 1/2 to 3 months I did some searching and found that hes advising you to hook up to the completely wrong wires. The correct Brown wire that you're supposed to hook to isn't even in the same harness as the one hes telling you to hook up to. The only wire that he has accurate is the blue and Orange wire that goes to the fuel pump.
This worked for me and many others, I’m sorry this didn’t work for you. I haven’t burnt any relays, I did state that the way I had the pump hooked up was that the pump would run as long as the key was on, I understand that this isn’t correct. If you have any DETAILED instructions on the correct way to wire up this bypass please feel free to share them.
I think you are right, the brown wire (pin 25) in the C3 harness (the one with a thick starter output wire, (yellow/grey, pin 21 on C3)) should be used as a signal to the relay.
What vehicle do you drive?
Hey Jake I'm having the same problem and I'm out of town. Could you tell me what fuse and where to jump the fuel pump just for temporary. Thanks
I did all this but when I turn on the car my relay, and pigtail wires get really hot to the touch within minutes. Any suggestions? I double checked and all wires are hooked up as shown, I too have a 2015 dodge so wiring was exactly the same….but im just confused now 🤔
It sounds like you have a shorted wire somewhere. I’d trace your fuel pump wires from the fuse box back to the pump. Make sure that they aren’t chaffed and are in good condition. It might be worth running new wire and seeing if the wires still get hot. Another problem could be a bad fuel pump. It may be drawing more amperage than it’s supposed to for some reason.
@@hockeymonkey8424 I’ll try that, I’m kinda thinking maybe the fuel pump, but I’ll try to diagnose step by step before just guessing. In the mean time I ain’t running this shit again risking melting wires and causing more damage lol. Thanks for the feedback though really appreciate it you replied quick! Haha
@@leomendoza7935 yes, definitely do not run it until you figure out the issue. Don’t want to start an electrical fire! Make sure that you have a fuse in place as well. Good luck, let me know how it goes.
@@hockeymonkey8424 thanks man will do 👌🏼
It is getting really hot because he is wrong as far as the wires he is telling you to connect to
very good video it worked for me with my 2015 Dodge durango engine 3.6 I appreciate it
Does anyone know where I can find the metal connector that goes into the bottom of that blue module?
Dang... Wish I had seen this video 6 months and $1500 ago. Funny (not funny) how dodge sells a "kit", which you can't find anywhere.
What was the truck doing? I am having an issue with my Ram. It had a fuel pump put in it 6 months ago when I bought it. Today I was driving it and it died. It started right up. When I tried to start it at second stop it wouldn’t start after like 20 minutes it finally started. And I finally saw a message of low fuel. But it didn’t leave a message in the truck and no codes. Please help me
Do you find what was wrong. What did you do to fix it?
Did anyone find out how or what wire will give the 4 second pulse of the fuel pump to trigger the relay in the run position from ACC? Currently From off to ACC= no pump(good) From ACC to Run=on all the time(bad) From Run to start and back to Run= on (good) From Run to ACC = off (good) From ACC to off = off (good) I see dodge has make a factor relocation kit, how did they get it to work. Thanks for the video.
It's a switched and pulsed ground. On my 17 it's a brown wire. You can also tap the fuel pump fuse for pulsed hot+. These are commanded by the pcm sending ground. Remember the pump is not an on off circuit. It's variable performance is controlled by PWM signal and will trip the FP control module performance OBD ERROR CODE if not wired properly.. the pump will default to 80% duty cycle if this signal is not received
Large red wires in the harness are constant power. And once you burn up a 200$ fuel pump for not identifying the switched ground you'll invest in a 20$ TEST LIGHT to correctly wire the switched ground!!!
Blue and orange. Good to know. I've looked online for a wiring diagram for my wood truck, (06 4.7l) without any luck. Wonder if this truck uses the same color wire for 12v to fuel pump?
Is the blue/orange wire power to the fuel pump ?
The TIPM should have a positive lug in the corner where you can connect the red wire with the fuse.
So I currently had this same issue, My 14 Ram was cranking but not starting. After verifying my fuel pump still worked and found out about the whole TIPM system I started doing some research. So there’s isn’t much on 14 and up trucks as far as wiring so I got a hold of some schematics and wired up my relay as follows. Im able to turn my key to acc without pump turning on. And when I press again to run everything works fine. 4 pin relay. 30-main power to battery with inline fuse(30a) 85-Ground to existing ground post right next to fuse box. 86-tapped into brown wire on gray harness. Do not cut. 87-Thicker blue/orange wire on blue harness. I just did it today. I drive it around to do some errands and it seemed fine. I’m not liable for what happens to your vehicle if you decide to do so. Thank you for the video, I based my research off your video and others.
Is the blue/orange wire power to the fuel pump?
@@frankstephenson1746 yes
Is this for 1500 5.7 hemi?
Can you please tell me what and where to buy the parts
I just want to thank you so much this video gave me the courage to do this myself I have a 2014 ram 1500 with a 5.7 hemi I knew it was in my fuel pump after I ruled it out your 2500 has the same fuse box minus a few fuses but all I can say is thank you again I did the same exact way you did and maybe one day I will find out one of those pink wires my question is does your gas gauge always read whatever is in the fuel tank?
What is it that I save myself 280 bucks to have someone wire in the relay and over $1000 to bring it to the dealership for a new TPM you really hooked us up there was a ton of videos online but none like this thank you again
I’m glad I was able to help you out! I don’t typically make videos but I noticed that this seems to be a common issue and there wasn’t a ton of information with this particular fix. I figured this video would be an easy way to share my knowledge with others.

good info, but vid is all over the place. please redo. appreciate the effort, but still needs to be redone, or just re-edited. love the new word ; 'my TIPPEN went bad.'👍
I’m guessing you have never worked on a vehicle with 1 hand while recording with the other. Not taking everything back apart to redo it just because someone wants me to film a more steady video. I didn’t have to post this video as I am not trying to make money off of it or anything. I simply did it to be informative and to help people that had a similar issue with their TIPM. I am definitely not a professional videographer or youtuber. You are more than welcome to take the time to make your own video, if you can do it better, it would be a good first post on your account.
Can you give me the name of the 3 items you used I could only see the label on 2 of them . I got same problem with my 2012 Dodge ram. Thanks
Just want to make sure I get right stuff first time around I see the relay and power cord IAM assuming
adam canada I used a 4 pin relay, a relay harness (pigtail) and an in line fuse. All of these should be easy to get at any local auto parts store.
@@hockeymonkey8424 thanks for getting back to me really appreciate it. Have a good rest of your day.
Thank you. I had to put the bypass into my wife's 2013 Dodge Grand caravan. And now 2015 Dodge ram.

you dummy, put the first bushing on the other way
What was the problem? Where did you buy your rebuild kit from?
Did you every find what was causing it to stick up after assembly?
Why? I have never found sway bars to be usefull when crawling slowly over uneven terrain.
Right? Whatever. Welcome to the new age jeep owner responses.. sway bars antirock blah blah. Learn to wheel.
I have an 05 TJ and was wondering where you mounted them to,,, any pics or other videos during the daylight?
Awesome song! Gotta go get a beer, see ya!!!!!
Nah, They get in the way, hahaha Jk. Front Antirock is in the future but not the rear.
looks like you could use some antirocks
The Lights will stay the same color when you turn them off and back on. I loved mine but for some reason they stopped working. I may invest in a new set if i cant figure out the problem.
Do the lights stay the same color when you turn them off then back on? or do they default to a certain color? I am thinking about getting some but am trying to decide between the multi colors or solid whites. I want to wire them to a switch as well. Thanks
good drive jake ...
