Even if NATO didn’t necessarily have any cities nuked (which would be an incredible result in any nuclear war), I doubt the fallout and nuclear winter would be any easier. Kinda ironic really. Even if you do achieve complete victory, your own weapons will poison you.

There's an extremely realistic game, unlike this game, it's called icbm, you actually have to research and build your technology and weapons. You don't just immediately get nuclear missiles, aircraft, ships, ect. You have to build up your technology and place radar systems to increase your seeing range and you can also use satellites. You can also form alliances in that game. There's also a world destruction thing that once it reaches 100% it's game over. I recommend you guys to try it out.
