Blades of Khaine, Beat the Learning Curve: Talkin' tac ops

I've already had some questions about tac ops, and decided to just record this video now instead of in the order I had initially laid out. This video explains what tac ops are, how scoring works in Kill Team, and discusses how the various options in each archetype work for the Blades of Khaine. This is the first short intro video in a series intended to help folks learn to play Blades of Khaine in Warhammer 40k Kill Team Third Edition. Keep an eye on the related playlist, more videos will be hitting the channel soon.
Just found your channel and I’m glad I did. I’ve wanted to start BoK, but had no idea where to start with them, thanks!
Dude, I’ve been scouring the internet to help with explaining this team and configuring the roster. THANK YOU so much for making this vid series, much appreciated!!!!
@@nickdelc3954 glad it helped!
Just what I have been looking for. Thanks a ton and pleaae do a breakdown for banshees and scorpions as well. :)))
Thanks for checking out the videos. I will be putting more videos together, but things got slowed down a bit with the holidays. But I plan to have a video on Scorpion techniques up next week. -Milton
Happy holidays and God bless! :) thanks for the quality content
Well done at the tournament! I’m excited to see if you have any advice for fighting elite teams! Got my butt kicked by some legionnaires recently and don’t want to repeat it 😄
I was looking forward to this one! Great recap. I’m looking forward to seeing the other teams you try out.
Thanks! Ill still be playing a lot of Blades of Khaine, especially on the road. But locally I'll be mixing it up a bit more. -Milton
Thanks for the shout out, milton. to explain the usage of terrain on Into the Dark: the choice to provide cover, especially in the larger rooms is an intentional one, that is intended to provide safe staging areas for 2 APL teams. the terrain is placed in locations that are not on scoring objectives, but will instead provide a choice whether to stage safely, or play aggressively on points. there is enough evidence that 3 APL elite teams are on top of the meta right now, and these huge open spaces reward space marines speed and tankiness in a way that they just dont need right now. this was much less the case on 6 room maps, as the games tended to break up into smaller bands fighting in isolation. that is not the case with 3.0 set ups. this is just one way that we as as players can attempt to balance games, rather than calling for buffs/nerfs. the players in my local meta have reacted very well to this set up style.
Blades of Lame? Mor elike Blades of Pain, they rock tbh!
I keep winning with them. So either some folks that don't play the team online are wrong, or I'm a genius. I hope its the later, but I'm pretty sure its not. Also thanks for commenting, its fun to see a a comment from the number one kill team youtuber in the world.
@@AdeptusAdequate As long as we ignore objective facts...
Implant isn't terrible with the banshee scream, vs APL2 you get to implant and stun targets concealed behind light cover that you wouldn't be able to kill anyway
I might have been a bit hyperbolic about implant, and if folks are seeing success with it into I would like to hear more about it. Most of the talk I've heard about Implant so far has been about taking it into elites, which I strongly disagree with.
These videos have been super helpful. Now if I play against blades I have an idea of what they can actually do! It has been a much more helpful format than ‘person reading rules off data card’
@@JurassicJootin glad to hear it! I'll try and get the other aspect technique videos up next week.
You're not the only one who forgets we have that ability just to have another free save. That happened to me just yesterday and I needlessly burned my Rune of Shielding instead.
@@ryanbarrett5354 yeah. Lots of moving parts to keep in mind. Especially in a tournament setting with limited time to make decisions. One of the things I'm hoping is that doing these videos and forcing myself to put ideas into words will help me remember things like Unstinting Immovable, and to avoid making mistakes that I have warned people about
@AdeptusAdequate I want to make a shoot, fight, Sv × SS, BB, DA matrix, also with a marker for Ploys played so I remember if I did take Forwarned, Khaine's Vengeance, etc
Excellent ending 👌
Also, I just remembered, and I double checked the map layout on the "Approved Ops" maps on BattleKit app, Map 1 for Volkus, I started left side and was really surprised that I could just Fly up there with a Banshee and was then able to barely engage on the South building or the building to the East. That's definitely a trick to keep up my sleeve.
Took your advice into AoD and Scorpion Claw was a straight can opener on them. Got some good Strike & Fade which allowed me to get into enemy territory to keep getting my 2nd point on Plant Beacons.
Excellent! I'm glad it worked for you. I'll be getting more videos up this weekend looking at the aspect techniques in detail.
HEY I KNOW THAT NERD ON THE RIGHT!!
Great recap! Love getting insight into the competitive games
Thanks! This one ended up being a bit longer than I intended, but I didn't want to edit down the conversation with Will since it gets to some interesting thoughts on decision making and having a plan from the start of a game. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Love this content. I like the positive attitude toward Bok in this edition.
Glad you are enjoying it so far! Hopefully I can keep spreading the good word about Kaela Mensha Khaine. -Milton
The perfect amount of depth! I appreciate you displaying each tac op on screen! Looking forward to seeing how you pick your operatives for matches! Also, do you have a favourite craftworld in the setting?
@@jackwithers6142 out of the major Craftworlds, Ulthwe. I remember being in middle school when the Eye of Terror campaign came out, so it's always been a favorite. Thanks for the kind words, I'll have a video up on operative selection next week. -Milton
this content is kinda crunchy :)
@@jam8539 let me know if it's been useful or if you have feedback. This is a very new project, so I'm still getting used to finding the line between giving useful information and monologuing for too long
Exactly what I hoped for and more. You a real one. I appreciate your insight and reminders about certain things that go together like PB&J. Looking forward to the match ups. Do consider three DAs? I had the idea vs 7W teams that as long as one shooting die goes through, that means my melee offensive can charge, fight and have an extra APL to do things like tap points and plant beacons that they didn't need to shoot with to soften the target. (I know you mentioned discord, but I also want to add to your channel's algorithm)
@@ryanbarrett5354 I usually play two, but part of that is because our group played a homemade narrative campaign for like 9 months where rosters were really limited, so I got really used to it. Three dire avengers seems totally fine, I would consider taking the third one on boards that have more open shooting lanes, like Octarius setups or Beta Decima. on maps that have a lot of heavy terrain like Volkus or Into the dark I would rather have more melee to dig enemies out of positions where dire avengers would struggle to shoot them. Also, against 7w teams you shouldn’t need to soften them up for the most part. If you initiate a fight action and get a crit, striking scorpions deal 7w in one hit. Scorpions and banshees are killing 7w in two normal hits otherwise, so you generally shouldn’t need to worry about softening up 7w models. Shuriken weapons are pretty good at just straight up killing them. - Milton
What a great video! As someone who’s just getting into the Blades of Khaine, I really appreciate you taking the time to share what you’ve learned (especially appreciate the segment on how to get the different models cheaply). I look forward to seeing the rest of the series!
Glad its been helpful so far! I recorded another video today, but probably won't get a chance to do any editing until after Thanksgiving. As the playlist gets longer, please let me know if there's anything you have questions on. I don't want to miss anything that folks would find useful. -Milton
Excellent recap!
First, congrats on your Tournament win! Especially with the current W-L going on at the big tournaments. I started playing Corsairs last edition, but picked up BoK when I could. I still have only 3-5 games with them (full losing streak so far). So, I'd love to hear what your thought process was on selecting: Your Aspect ratios & Exarch TacOps & Primary Selection Equipment selection Either for the tournament you attended in reference to this video or even just generalities vs Elite, Mid, & Horde. My KT circle is small, but my opponent selection happens to be one of each.
I usually default to 4 howling banshees in most matchups, two dire avengers, a striking scorpion warrior, and a striking scorpion exarch. The howling banshees are really strong on any maps with a lot of walls and verticality (especially on Volkus) so they are my main damage pieces. The dire avengers are there to keep people honest, plant beacons on my half of the board and whittle down elites before bouncing back into safety. The scorpion warrior is usually there as a piece to use One with the Gloom and to agressively tap points, or to dance of death and swap places with a banshee if I go first. The scorpion exarch is my favorite because of the damage potential being so high, and hitting 7 and 8 wound breakpoints really well to one shot models. For Tac Ops it depends on whether or not I think I can contest the crit op, how far up the board I am likely to push, and whether or not I can get kills and keep a model alive after. I usually play Plant Beacons or Overrun in most games. Vs Elites I may take Confirm Kill since you often need all your APL just to kill marines and cant afford to be running around planting beacons as much. For equipment, I usually take all the faction equipment, and then take a 5th piece with scouting to snag either krak grenades or smoke grenades. Hope some of this is useful to think about. If you want to talk on discord some time about the team, let me know. -Milton
@AdeptusAdequate I was surprised to hear you took Confirm Kill vs Legionnaires so I'm glad you explained it here. I've been hearing all the hype about how difficult Elites are to kill, so I figured, "why bother making that the priority when we dont have the Piercing outside of Krak Grenades. So that alone into my buddy's Plague Marines should be useful. I'll have to read and re-read the rest as I'm at work right now. Thank you for your time, energy, and passion. Thank you for your time.
I eagerly await as I'm a Space Elf Fanboy.
More like Blades of Lame, Orks is da best!! Great first vid!
Thanks! And I'm always down to krump if you want to prove that sentiment.
