REALLY hate Windows? Linux is your answer.

Many people are looking to move to linux. For whatever reason it may be, this is a simple guide to installing a popular beginners distro like Pop OS. While I used Pop OS as an example, most beginner-friendly (and Debian based) distros have a similar setup process, so feel free to use whatever you wish. Edit: I don't recommend Pop OS until they add the new cosmic desktop, it was just an example ...

Mint isn't just for beginners. It works out of the box for ex windows folks but it can be easily tweaked to support advanced users as well. It has tools for installing newer kernels to take advantage of features in the newer kernels. It has a right click menu on files in the application menu to uninstall an app without much effort, keeping maintenance quick and simple. There is a lot more in it to make your life easier and you do not need to know how to code to get there. I'm not seeing much limitation if any in the last eight years using it. I built and managed large global networks and data centers for over 30 years and Linux fits very nicely in those environments and has for years. Mint is good enough at present that I would not hesitate to put some folks on it now, and have already. I tell people all the time that Linux is ready now, both in the back room and on the desktop and they should start learning how to use it.They will and are being pleasantly surprised.
You're completely right, Mint isn't just for beginners, but it has a simple enough layout and a bunch of easy-to-use tools which is appealing to a new user. As somewhat of an intermediate user myself, I enjoy using Mint as well.
Since the rest were reviewed, could also review some niece Linux distros, there are other people that reviewed it, but I want to see how you do it the right way, if possible: Rhino Linux: Made for developers, but it has a package manager of that of a pacman as Pacstall and apt-get as it's package manager, despite it being a Ubuntu based derivative. KickSecure: Based on Debian but hardened, using a integrated Tor Network as software pre installed, it is also endorsed by Free Software Foundation but I don't see them being in the Endorsement Program, but it's a nice way of staying secure and anonymous. They also have a separate project by their team known as Whonix. Now, I am not sure if you are able to make guides and recommendations in regards to this subject, but I bet it's most common now a days: A video idea like this: Linux Privacy Guide, how to harden your distro. Usually about how to harden your Linux installation, such as how to harden your Linux installation in Linux Mint, others can be harden but it depends. I know this subject is mainly about how to protect your privacy online with Linux. A separate idea is for that same thing: Linux Privacy Guide, which Linux distro is privacy respecting. It's usually about which distro is privacy respecting and drama free, example being Debian, Linux Mint, and other distros that I think they are privacy respecting, and or drama free. The ones that are not included are: Ubuntu, because of their association with canonical ltd, Fedora and RHEL due to their drama and controversy, especially the whole telemetry thingy and their AI implementation, Manjaro is also not recommended because of them starting to collect data in their OS. For reviewing privacy focused distros are: TailsOS, Whonix, Kicksecure, and if you really have a hardware for it: Qubes OS. I am not sure what to include here, but I guess you can research these subjects and things I have mentioned. For Arch I guess you can recommend CachyOS for now. There are also some new distros like Ditana, and their distros that are in Distro watch. but hey that's on you. Good luck though. Thanks.
I need more people like you, thanks so much for this! If I have the time I will definitely try to review some of these distros (but probably not Qubes lol)
@@aryamanstechhaven I see, but understood for the sake of your hardware.
Let me see if I can make the linux privacy guide. obviously, it will have to be a little simplified but I think I can try.
No thanks. Don't want to deal with terminal commands on everything I do.
You don't necessarily have to, it just happens to be the easiest way
Could you review some Linux distros? The ones in the review are (if not reviewed or ranked by you): Linux Mint, MX Linux, Debian 13 (In development but you can try 12 if need be), CachyOS, EndeavorOS, ElementaryOS. Also, could you recommend Linux Mint next time? Pop_OS! Is yes updated or sometimes outdated at times (like that mentioned) because of old gnome. Linux 22.1 is in Beta, you can also try out their beta if you need to but right now it is still popular in Distrowatch. Also for a video idea: Best recommendations for Intermediate Users, its all about recommending the best popular or unpopular linux distro for experienced users. All I see is beginner recommendations every where. Thank you.
Sure thanks for the idea!
No, it's not. Lack of compatibility with drivers and softwares.
Yeah, I did say in the video that it's not for everybody, especially those who don't wanna do that trial and error with drivers and software
@@aryamanstechhaven it's not a matter of trial and error, there are various softwares that do not exist on Linux and there are no alternatives for them, and lots of them which do have "alternatives" are not anywhere near the ones we have on Windows. I wanted to switch to Linux, of course it's better, but unfortunately Windows is still the only option for the majority of power users. When full legacy compatibility occurs, I will gladly switch to Linux, the problem is that this will probably never happen, or at least not in the upcoming years.
I hate to break this to you but I've seen plenty of people report problems and I've had my share of Windows customers report repeated problems of Microsoft Windows changing their Hardware drivers to what they thought were correct they meaning microsoft, and it ends up bending or braking certain functionality be a graphics or land or wireless LAN as well as Bluetooth both in Windows 10 and 11. So whatever you want to tell yourself but this is 20/25 not 2005 a lot has changed in Linux world since you probably the last tried. And given the fact that you didn't mention What Lennox distributions you've tried at all no details whatsoever it wouldn't surprise me if you've even tried it at all
@@motoryzen I tried linux a few months ago dude lol. The problem isn't really generic drivers, but proprietary drivers, those are mostly non existent on linux. And ofc, lack of software, which are the main problem for me.
You guys make good points, that's why I said it's not for everyone. Sometimes you may not like it, or you have incompatible software, in which case you don't really have a choice. This is for those lucky enough to not be in this position.
I use Gentoo, btw.
It's not all that popular but hey, user preferences.
@EyesMen I mean, it is quite popular. But at the end of the day, distro popularity is not that important.
True words
Btw is trademark of Arch. I will sue you for copyright infringement haha jk
@@theluga7363 I will be moving to LFS, btw. :)
Never tried Windows 11. Windows 10 was egregious enough malware in and of itself to make me switch to LInux for good.
@bobpeters61 Eh, who knows, they've always got Windows 12! (And 13, 14, and versions after that). Maybe they'll improve!
I moved from Windows 11 24H2 to Arch Linux KDE Welcome to Freedom
Glad to hear you like it!
I won't recommend pop OS 22.04. It is based on 3 years old GNOME.
True. Not unless they have officially released the COSMIC desktop environment then they would re-focus that to their Distro and the DE.
Good point, I'll add that in the description. Thanks!
All these bugs in 24H2 is precisely the reason I won't update to that version until after the first major update to it.
I have a question for you guys: Are you rocking with windows 10, or maybe a version of Windows 11? Or have you embraced Linux as your operating system? Let me know.
24H2 has been the best version of windows 11 for me, better fps when gaming on ryzen 5 5600 and rtx 4060
although my laptop supports windows 11 i am still using windows 10 and i will continue to use it till it's end of life
@MicahDaRhuler That is interesting, considering the bugs that come with 24H2. But I'm glad you're enjoying it!

If you're gonna use win7 in 2024, why not switching to Linux ? You can make it look exactly like win7, you get not only the look of win7 but more performance in games and better software support.
Oh yeah, definitely. I was just using it for possibly one of the last times (because it's not supported and is already becoming outdated). I could probably customize a desktop environment like KDE to look like Windows 7.
I don’t want to use an MSDOS style terminal and have to manually configure shit when there’s something better like windows 7
Yeah, Windows 7 is nice for not having to manually configure too many things.
Does it have Microsoft assistant like "clippy" ?
