Today's sound encounter feels alien to me, as unrelated tones rotate through layers of modulation and shifting to become further unlike themselves. It makes me think of the phrase "to be beside oneself." It is still the middle of winter, but it also makes me think of the poem "Early Spring" by Yi Lu-everything is unrelated to itself. Still, I look forward to spring. #jamuary #jamuary2025 No-Inp...
Feedback Wombtone Kicks
Переглядів 17014 днів тому
Recently acquired a Chase Bliss Wombtone from a mysterious box. Not sure what the no-input possibilities are with the pedal yet, but I stumbled across some fun kicks using the built in envelope follower. There are a million better ways to get a kick sound, so I don't consider this to be anything particularly noteworthy. But a fun little bonus for the month.

Jamuary 2025: 17 Mavis Chaos Patching
Переглядів 15614 днів тому
The sample and hold on the Moog Mavis works great as the core of a chaotic feedback patch between the VCO and the LFO. When I first got this little synth, I would have never thought to patch it this way, but it's super receptive to this style of chaos. I originally developed this patch for my Mavis Reflections videos. You can learn all about it and the way that I think about patching the Mavis ...

This started out as an experiment with putting the Angle Grinder and the Koszalin frequency shifter in feedback together. It moves between lovely (for those inclined to such sounds) floating whistles and more unstable noise. To excite the feedback loop and give it something further to process, I mixed in some signal from the Interstellar Radio (using the standard noise feedback patch of Error t...
Jamuary 2025: 15 Sample & Hold Chaos

Some classic sample and hold feedback with two oscillators running into a resonant filter. I like the addition of the matrix mixer to this patch, which can bring some filter feedback into the mixture. I think that something to modulate the envelope parameters would be a nice development, but it also makes a lot of fantastic sounds just as it is. #jamuary #jamuary2025 No-Input Mixing Board Expla...
Jamuary 2025: 14 Babbler

Ditched the keyboard, kept the chatty wave shaping. This is sort of Krell-like patch with a focus on the Angle Grinder as vocal timbre generator using the grind controls and the resonant bandpass output. I really like the way the frequency shifter pushes the timbre into not only metallic but also sort of bubbly spaces with medium-high feedback. In order to get the core of the vocal tone, there'...
Jamuary 2025: 13 Vocal Wave Shaping

Patching up a (sort of) vocal patch using a wave shaper and bandpass filter (the Angle Grinder kindly works as both for this patch). This is definitely not the use-case that I had in mind when putting this system together, but it's good to stretch things a little bit. As we move into the second half of Jamuary, I think my plan will be to narrow my focus back towards the intended use-cases for t...

Bringing in a keyboard, and then playing with complexifying a sine tone from the Multifilter 2 by phase modulating it and then further messing it up with the Angle Grinder. I think my favorite thing about this patch is the way that I'm cycling the Nibbler on a key press and then pausing it when the key is released. It's not a way that I've thought about using track and hold or the Nibbler befor...

Modular Explorations: Benjolin/Krell-type Generative Patch
Sounds like leaves and birds. Very organic indeed. How did you power the thing, by the way? Did you modify the case?
Organics via feedback are probably some of my favorite synthesized sounds. And the case is the powered version of the Moog 60hp case. It has power + 10 connections built in.
So poetic
I have this same board and have been experimenting with different configurations to process feedback loops. It's been a lot of fun. Thank you for sharing this.
Nice! There's such a diverse set of sounds that the mixing board is capable of. It's a great instrument to explore!
very organic, nice
Thank you!
delicate as a dancing flake
What board are you using?
Regarding this video in particular, I'm not sure what you're asking about. If you mean for my no-input mixing board videos, I use an older version of the Mackie 1402.
Absolutely awesome.
Thank you!
Cool trick!
I suppose this should be a given with anything by Moog, but man that filter sounds killer! Love the textures you’re getting out of this little kit
Thank you! I feel like the Mavis performs so well for its price class. Nothing about it feels small or cheap to me.
That was a really nice blend of Noise & Tones√
I love that both the music make with your modular and with the NIMB sounds similiar in ways. Without sounding too pretentious it’s great to hear you have this “musical voice” haha. Really liked this one!
Thank you! I feel that there's a lot of overlap in the way that I approach the two platforms, so I'm glad it comes across in the sound and performance 😁
I love the Monos, and saw you do something here that made me realize i had overlooked a whole swath of the instrument's range. Thanks!
Nice! Hope you have fun exploring the new possibilities!
Bro is harnessing the chaos here. Props!!! Impressive
Thank you! I feel like the mixing board has its own weird rules, but it follows them much more consistently than I ever initially thought it would.
I love no-input mixing! skilled perf.
Thank you!
beautiful!
yes!!! this is how i make vids with final cut pro
When I was editing professionally commercials and other stuff, I used to play like that in the timeline in the spare moments or when I was bored. Fun stuff!
…the winds intensify on the coasts with gusts reaching 130 km/h…
Love it! Runglers dipping in and out of audio rate are some of my favorite things : )
Yes! Anything that gracefully plays across that boundary is immediately of interest to me.
Nice, thanks for the inspiration.
Glad you found it useful! I've made some changes since recording this that I'm really enjoying. I'll plan to do another update sometime after Jamuary ends.
Wonderful! So much more engaging than a drum machine.
There's always trade-offs, but I think it's definitely my preferred way to work.
Had me worried for a minute, thought there was a new ever smaller Monos that I needed to pick up. 😀
The piccolo monos! 😄
That Koszalin sounds so good! Nice metallic beat.
Thank you! I'm still learning all that it can do, but even from the start it does really interesting stuff. I'm looking forward to spending more time with it going forward!
again, interesting patching here + cool sounds!
great idea to keep pushing and trying new stuff. I have a (very long) running project of building my own eurorack, i have built 2 modules over 3 years and dont even have a full voice yet. this video has inspired me to buy a few modules and really get this project moving. Thanks friend!
That's great! Hope you have a lot of fun with it. 😁
AG is an awesome sound processor, particularly on percussions. Noisy beat, I like it.
It continues to amaze me. A really exciting module to use.
Ich mag die Stelle mit der Oboe und der Solistin. Daumen sind Oben, und danke für das Verhalten.
Very good. Reminds me of Trent Reznor's Swarmatron work on the Social Network soundtrack.
I'll have to give that a listen. Thanks!
Your Jamuary wins everything!😮
Thanks! I'm feeling good about this one 😄
a beautiful patch!
Thank you! It's definitely a style of patching that I'm drawn to.
I like noise, rungler, and small case performance. What's not to like here? Great patch ✨
Thank you! Some of my favorite things too 😁
Interesting patch! Happy jamuary ;)
Thanks! You too!
Make some noise! Happy jamuary!
Happy jamuary! The new year needs to get a little raucous! 😁
Beautiful patch as usual, I'm enjoying the daily treat. I wonder if it would be interesting to use Nibbler as the clock divider here, and modulate it in some way...
The Nibbler could definitely do a lot of interesting things here. Perhaps the math is just escaping me, but I can't think of a way to get the odd number clock divisions for /5 and /7 with the Nibbler, which I wanted for the particular subharmonic relationships to the main pitch of the oscillator in this patch. But the Nibbler is great, especially with some modulation. It's definitely going to be part of tomorrow's patch 😁
It's like opening a bag of sweets and sugar candy spilling out!
🍬 ✨
Lovely sounds! Have a nice jamuary!
Thanks. You too!
I’ve been checking out your vids for a bit now and I’m always impressed with the complex sounds you get! Very nice man really enjoyed that
I appreciate that, thank you! Looking forward to a new year with all sorts of new and interesting sounds! 😁
This is really great ❤
Thanks! Looking forward to a new year of fun, weird sounds! 😁
That’s the good stuff
Thanks!
Some really cool fragments, and I liked a lot the visualisation.
Thanks! I'm really happy with the visualizations too. I'm interested in documenting less immediate/improvised work on my channel in the future, and I think the spectrograms will be a useful tool for doing that.
I wanna put a huge beat on this and start rapping. Haha!
Wut..? This is cool. Can I try it on Bedrock?
Thanks! I don't play on Bedrock, so idk if there are any timing/functionality differences specifically. But the ideas should translate the same, and I would expect it to work almost identically. Let us know what you find! 😁
The most compelling music I've heard come from noteblocks. A few days ago I tried to get some weird results with Minecraft's sound engine, and found something interesting. The emerald block noteblock sound is a square wave, and with multiple playing and one just a tick behind, you can get some weird phase cancellation.
That sounds really interesting. I've been thinking there's good rhythm stuff to play with in minecraft's noteblock systems, but I didn't think there was much to be done with the sound itself. That's a great tip for future exploration!
Love this! Wonderful palette of varied sounds and rhythms
Thank you! I'm looking forward to exploring this more in the new year!
Beautiful! How are you triggering short plucky notes like that?
The plucks are created using the mute buttons on the mixing board channels. Bring the volume up while muted, and then unmute for a sharp attack. The speed at which you bring the fader back down will control the decay. It's a technique that I picked up from watching Hainbach. I believe he learned it from the folks at Willem Twee Studios.
This was an amazing performance. Impressive.
Thank you! I'm quite intrigued with the possibilities of these long, high-feedback delays for developing a performance. It's a neat way to work.
@@kilo_llama Seeing your work with delays makes me think about using effects again. I don't use them because it can be difficult with dense material (feedback and drone). It is a reminder that working with space and silence can be a good thing. Patience.
I really enjoyed this, thanks!!
I'm glad you liked it. Thanks for listening!
Great patch!
Thanks!
love the benjolin so much,,, good to see also other one have it in a little extra case 😅 it stands for its own… thanks to rob hordijk! 😢
