We are assuming by your reply that you didn’t actually watch the video. Giving is clearly a Biblical obligation. The principle is the tithe, but ultimately giving is a heart matter.

@@riversideemc Yes I watched. A gift can't be a gift if it is an obligation. That's a payment, not a gift. You can't conflate the two. Biblical, compulsory tithes were payments, not gifts, and were accepted from either the tithe of the herd or the tithe of the land. Not from wages. All within Israel. All under Mosaic Law. The "principle" of tithing under Mosaic Law was taxation, to allocate consumable items towards the Levitical theocracy, the poor, and for the festivals. The "principle" of giving can't be a compulsory exercise or it isn't a gift. And yes, true giving should be from the heart, which it isn't if it's obligatory. We're free to give, not bound to pay.

⁠@@markb7067 thanks for your response. Perhaps we disagree on how we would distinguish between obligation and gift. Would I be right to assume you see the word “obligation” as a mostly negative term? If so I could mostly see your point. But I don’t see any biblical “obligation” as a negative. God always has purpose in what he does, and his purpose is always good. The whole purpose of 2 Corinthians 9 is Paul reminding the Corinthian church of their obligation to give. In chapter 8 he says he is not commanding them, but he also states that he is sending Titus to collect. The good purpose of the obligation is twofold: to help the church, and the promise of blessing to the giver. If I applied a negative connotation to all obligations in scripture I may decide not to do something because I don’t feel like it (like loving my enemies and praying for them). But right actions always lead to right emotions. I give because there is a principle of giving in scripture, but I also find that the more I give the more I want to give.

@@riversideemc Yes, again, I agree in terms of giving, particularly discretionary giving from the heart. The point is that biblical, systematic (required) tithes weren't gifts. They were compulsory submissions of consumable items, specifically purposed. And my "burden" on the topic isn't for me. Consider, for the moment, the less fortunate who can't make financial ends meet. Why should they be burdened with the obligation to submit a portion of their income they can't afford to submit? Why should they be made to feel like they're something less (spiritually) than those who can tithe from their income and still have savings? Where in the Bible did we derive the right to impose this burden upon the people we are supposed to be helping? Nowhere. Nowhere in scripture were the poor burdened with the tithe. In fact, they received a tithe (every 3 years). How is today's alleged universal "biblical mandate" for everyone to pay out 10% of their earned wages justifiable biblically when there's no such thing as a biblical tithe received from earned wages? That's the concern. Not for me. Probably not for you either. You're probably doing just fine. Jesus emphasized giving to the poor. There's no biblical record of Jesus asking anyone for their money other than the rich young ruler and once again, his challenge to him was to give it all to the poor. So, once again, in giving, true discretionary giving, I agree. Paul encouraged collections for the persecuted in Jerusalem, not for his benefit or anyone else. Obligation, particularly a material obligation, encumbers. Love gives unconditionally without expectation. Thanks for the exchanges and blessings in your giving.

Thanks for your response. We would ardently agree with you that God “making some people homosexual” to “challenge” them is a misunderstanding of scripture. We would say that all sin, including any kind of sexual sin, is a result of our brokenness and sinful nature. In other words, all sinfulness stems from our separation from God. The gift of God through Jesus is wholeness and peace. We may be tempted, but God gives us power to live holy lives. We are defined by, and identified, through our relationship with Jesus, and everything else flows out of that, including how we express ourselves sexually.

@@riversideemc Lol what a typical 'Christian' response - not responding to any of the points that I made since you clearly don't have any valid arguments. If homosexuality is just "sexual sin" and is not predetermined in biology, then we would expect the distribution of homosexuality to be random, but it isn't. For example, the more older brothers a guy has, the more likely he is to be gay (there's some very interesting theories as to why this could be the case). Similarly, if one identical twin is gay, the other twin has a significantly higher chance of also being gay, compared with siblings who aren't identical twins. So once again, if homosexuality is not something you can change, then why do you continue to pretend like it is something that we can, and should change? Also, the Bible's stance on homosexuality is really controversial, with some scholars even believing that the bible says nothing against homosexuality. So if homosexuality is a sin, why wouldn't the bible be clear and unambiguous about it? There's plausible denability for not even realising homosexuality is a sin, so how can God even treat it as such?

We were asking because you stated a position, and since we place a high value on what Scripture says we challenged you to offer a defense from Scripture. We weren’t asking you to defend yourself, but to defend your position. You are free to do so, or not to do so. To be clear, we believe that you are valuable to God, so valuable he sent his only son to die for you. We would start every conversation from that fact. We also believe that God calls us to conform to his will, something we can only do by the grace of Jesus and through the power of the Holy Spirit. The scriptures constantly confront us with behaviors, attitudes, and acts that we must repent of, crucify, and surrender to God. Any sexual act outside of God’s clearly defined guideline is just one example.

Inform us like we have never heard of this topic before, so you must do work, and another of it. I am supposing you want to be payed for this, so prepare to do what the viewers would want. Watch this episode, and you will see how difficult it is to listen to you, you could care less it seems. You must inform yourself. For every 1 hour of screen time you put out, you should have a minimum of 10 hours of others people on the topic watched, and that is per person. 2 of ya = 20 hours. And that does not include read or knowledge already known. 2. Charts and graphs goes along way. Everybody loves them. They take time to assemble, the viewers do not want to do, so they are relying on you to make it fun, true and informative. No one want to hear the sayin, "in my humble opinion". No one cares, just say what you think on the matter, why, and move on to others thoughts.

Make it your clothing, people will start to recognize you by you crisp white shirt with the Riverside logo of some kind. 5. Show us that you are friends with separate brains. Pic a topic to discuss and each take a side and let the argument fly. Do research so we do not have to, and make it fun. As part of this endeavor, we hope to reach people who may never step foot in our doors (hence the casual appearance and demeanor), though I get your point about being professional and recognizable! I also get what you mean about research. The approach here was to come at it from a biblical context and just speak about evidence in general, so the prep was not as intensive as it could have been if we were trying to genuinely prove or disprove. I would say this particular series was aimed at the general idea of conspiracies and therefore was less about the facts and more about how do we react to conspiracies from a biblical standpoint. We should make that more clear next time! Thanks for the opinion!

@riversideemc What you do not want to do with anything is to make a statement of what is truth or false, get all the facts you care to and let the viewers decide on thier own. Remember nobody wants to be told what to do, nobody! Show the facts how you found them and display all evidence, the people will learn to like you because of your honesty. So show them how you research and why, (why is the most important part), then build a fun discussion around issues of the day.

Bearing false witness or in other words, claiming as fact that which is directly false or unverified, is one of the ten commandments found in the Old Testament and what we are trying to equip everyday Christians to avoid. The emphasis is on truth telling, which sets a higher standard than simply, "do not lie". We approached the subject in a light-hearted manner in order to entertain, I think we toed the line but we welcome your feedback!

Hi! We are definitely not experts on Bigfoot, just normal people who like talking about the topic! Our goal is to equip people to share the Gospel in everyday life. Our main point here is about evidence itself, not to prove or disprove anything. If they look at the tens of thousands of people who witness these beings, keep in mind those witnesses are alive today, but they put their belief behind a book written long ago, well, there is no convincing these folks. Theyve never seen gravity or wifi but believe it exista cause ppl say thats what it is. Cant believe in these beings tho, because that would make.society think.they are crazy. Lol
