    Hey Colonel! After starting IL-2 1946 for the first time I came across this channel and I must say - it has helped me greatly in so many areas of understand both the aircraft and techniques of flying/dogfighting! After watching many of your previous tutorials I've noticed a significant difference in my ability to maintain and manage energy. I feel like most rookie pilots (myself included) are somewhat impatient in how they approach a lot of these areas, but taking that extra time to climb, gain altitude and not spend 20 minutes just chasing the tail of an enemy has made a world of difference! Hope this message finds you well, all the best good sir

    Love how u described immersion and realism, i want so much to find people that think gaming like this, it's so damn rare. Immersion is comms, tactics, fear, and so on but yea... immersion is that not over powered experience and so on. Well explained the issue about games today all based on breaking even and actually much beyond that with greedy non sensical dlc selling... I often said that: it's just like sticker album filling... seems people are too young to understand what I mean or never collected stickers. That's why I carefully select what to play and then also decide HOW to play stuff if I decide to buy. Hope to meet you. !

    Hey Niny, where do you recommend me to start with IL2? Just GB Stalingrad or Flying Circus? I'm a newbie that has played some WT, some Rise of Flight (loved it) and I started with GB Stalingrad and it's great but I also have a bit of a hard time. Got a joystick and trackir and I also got some custom training missions but I don't know, maybe ww2 planes are too complex and I should get Flying Circus and properly start from there =? Can you explain what trimming at takeoff is ? I dont which one you mean. Also when I bind some of them, nothing happens in my cockpit. But besides that everything works great. Thanks Edit: I found it its under stabilizer

    • @colninny8769
      @colninny8769 8 днів тому

      In some german planes (109) they have a stabilator which means the whole tailplane can be trimmed. Diff. key bind which you found. Otherwise set elevator trim. The purpose of trim to to take pressure off the stick in each flight configuration. Setting the trim for take off means you will feel very little tendancy for the nose to pitch up or down by itself once airborne in the climb. experiment. setthe trim all the way down, take off, and set it all the way up and take off. Find the comfortable position and that's it. Simple.You should be able to fly with just fingertip control not gripping on for life!

    Short and simple - Thank you! Next question, can you explain mixture and running cold - especially in the N-17, I have a hard time keeping that one running properly, especially when descending and trying to keep the rpm down? Much appreciated!

    • @colninny8769
      @colninny8769 8 днів тому

      I dont have the N-17 but the theory is that rich mixture will actually run cooler than lean mixture. For decent try leaning it out. In practice you would want to give yourself a more shallow glide angle and take longer to get down to keep the engine warm enough to function. Great question. thank you.

      Thank you. It really comes with practice. Understanding what your control surfaces actually do certainly helps. Being able to juggle power on either engine (if you have dual throttles also helps. I don't.) Even if you land it you may not walk away. Bailing out is also an option.

    Adding a comment to help the “algorithm.” Good video, good channel, algorithm-challenged. A question: do you think that computer flying at night is made more difficult by lack of seat-of-the-pants attitude awareness? Seems like seat of the pants is a two edged sword, made all the sharper at night. I believe one of the Kennedys flew a light plane into the ground at night, the conclusion being he he failed to believe his instruments.

    • @colninny8769
      @colninny8769 29 днів тому

      In IL-2 there are virtually no night flying scenarios. Which means instrument flying is of little importance unless you enter cloud, as I believe JFK jnr did. I have no change in seat of the pants flying day or night. Try my Cloud Breaking procedure video.

    I play War Thunder. I also am too old and too slow for top tier battles and prefer vehicles near WWII vintage or thereabouts. My channel is _much_ smaller with 233 subs. I think it has a lot to do with how niche my gameplay is as I _only_ play the battle pass challenges. I have subscribed as I enjoy watching vintage aircraft in action.

    I've always been good at deflection shooting, in air combat sims. I've been flying in online sims since Red Baron 2 (1997). In IL-2 Cliffs of Dover - Blitz, I have my RAF fighter's wing guns set for pattern convergence, because it is better suited for scoring hits on single engined fighters when mixing it. My customised ammo belts only have tracer in the outermost guns and I have one observer (exploding) bullet every 6 bullets for my 303 machineguns because these instantly kill bomber gunners plus ignite any fuel leaks that the target might have. They also freak out enemy players when they see flashes all over their plane. Some other experienced CloD RAF players use dual spot convergence, for wing guns. Here's a 303 / 7.92mm. bullet guide: Lead / Ball rounds - Splats against target's internal armour. Rips aircraft's skin from any angle. Punctures unarmoured fuel tanks. Makes large holes in radiators. Kills & wounds aircrew. Observer / Beobachtung rounds - Makes little explosions where it hits. Kills aircrew instantly. Ignites fuel leaks. Destroys control surfaces. Incendiary rounds - Causes fires on the target aircraft. Armour piercing rounds - Can penetrate up to 13mm. of RHA @ 0 degrees @ 100 yards, up to 8mm. of RHA @ 0 degrees @ 250 yards and up to 3mm. of RHA @ 0 degrees @ 500 yards. All He-111 bombers, except the P2 variant, have a 8mm. RHA armour plate in the tail to prevent bullet hits, from directly astern, travelling up the length of the fuselage. The engine nacelles have internal 8mm. RHA armour plates on their rear. Able to penetrate engine blocks. Tracer rounds - Come in a variety of colours. Shows the fall of the shots. Some are also less effective incendiary rounds.

    My IL-2 always loses elevator control rods on the first burst. Appreciate the short advice on that situation. Generally I have been flying low, in the attempt to use terrain masking to avoid the pesky Messerschmitts. My take away is fly a bit higher: air speed and altitude give you options.

    • @colninny8769

    Thumbs up for showing a video where your side was partially outplayed. Your opponent’s choice of bringing back an I-16 after losing in a MiG-3 is a very interesting choice. If I remember correctly the MiG is better at altitude, but also has a higher dive speed than most Russian planes, giving it more of a chance in a vertical fight. But still not a match for a Bf-109, and definitely not one on two. The I-16 can be a bit twitchy when pushed close to the envelope. Seems like your opponent had some skill. Wonder whether a cannon-armed I-16 would have made a difference.

Either this is only true for embarrassing photographs, or the definition of “forever” has changed. Not weighing in either way. . . So, thinking about my first experience trying to get the DCS P-51 trainer to the runway. (Not to mention actually taking off and flying.) The magic of IL-2 GB is combining realistic flight/damage/weapon models with some simplification of engine management, startup, etc. (Still struggled with getting the Schnellbomber and Duck onto a runway, despite all of that.)

    • @colninny8769

    I just wish IL-2 wasn’t so arcadey. After flying in DCS, all the aircraft feel like weightless toys. I’d like to combine DCS’s flight model with IL-2’s everything else. Being a real pilot has really ruined anything less than DCS levels of realism. DCS + a force feedback joystick = the closest thing to really flying next to owning the plane. It would be great if IL-2 could catch up.

      @@colninny8769 Trust me, I wish I felt the same way! When I got back into flight sims (my first was Flight Simulator on the Apple ][ in 1979) a few years ago and saw the graphic fidelity of the current sims, I thought it was a new golden age of WW2 simulators. But lately I’m starting to think this is one of the darkest times because we’ve got two main sims, each missing a piece the other has (and no one has the pacific theater). I don’t see either company adding that missing piece any time soon. Hopefully, with new sims on the horizon like Combat Air Patrol, things might be brightening up soon. Who knows? I know I had thought force feedback was dead and then boom, there’s a flood. Maybe there’s hope.

MP-players are much more pvp focused, while SP-players are often have experience mix of everything, which makes the skill gap very high between the two. Nothing wrong with someone who wants a more casual experience, or someone who wants a more competitive experience, but crossing the threshold takes considerable dedication in order for it to be an enjoyable experience.
