Is this a hobart d300? Also, where do you put in the new planetary oil?
DO NOT USE this oil, I've used it and almost broke my machine, it got really hot and burn smell... it's too thin. This is the right oil 102973-00071, you can get it from Hobart parts 128oz around $100 !!!!!
How do I replace the oil gauge sight glass? Does it pop out with a pry tool from the outside? Does the replacement simply pop in afterward?
yes after draining the gearbox, simply use a screwdriver to pry the sight glass out. be careful to keep the level line relatively straight when replacing it. I normally get it in place gently by hand then use a flat piece of wood and a rubber mallet to tap it in amd seat it.

yo what the fuck, you can't put that type of gear oil in there! it has to be food-grade! i've seen these planetaries with slow leaks all the time and it drips into the food. this is terrible advice, that gear oil has sulfur in it.
Need Food Grade oil.
