I have a question: My wife and i have a 2 year old daughter. We live in Colorado. She was in Children's Hospital for 9 months. She had heart surgery, still needs a new pulmonary valve. She has a tracheotomy and on ventilator, she has a feeding machine, she has a syndrome and CP. We are on medicade waiver and are her paid 24/7 caregivers because no home health here that want the responsibility. But we are all by ourselves. No family here. We want to move to Florida because my wife had a sister there. My daughter will hopefully be off the ventilator in about 1 year. But might have tracheotomy for long time and pulmonary valve surgery sometime also. Is it possible to move to Florida and keep her waiver? Will she automatically be able to have Medicare? Do we have to become resident first, then apply? Will my daughter loose her medicade during the move to Florida? Any advice

Is the medicaid waiver the same as applying for APD services?

I wonder do they seek out water? Or what’s the longest distance from where they where last seen? 😢 Odd yet very interesting Horrible 😢😢😢

Thank you soo much for this video. I have two children with disabilities that are including in these list of elegible diagnosis and yet have been trying for over a year to get my children into the waiting list and the regional office never answers the phone. This video finally helped me find the application. thank you.

Is this only for autism?

My sister has an acquired brain injury as of two years ago and she is 41. The APD excludes her to my understanding because she doesn’t have a developmental disability she was born with…. So how can I get her services at a group home if she does not have a born with disability?

Sounds disturbing. Teachers and staff should all be trained better - and not abuse ANYONE! I just turned 31 and have autism myself too, but lots of people treat me very nicely.

If an autistic is extremely disruptive, and parents object to measures teacher has to take in order to maintain classroom = then parents need to take responsibility for incorrigible child: stay home and homeschool, pay for private tutoring. BUT: do not berate teacher whose responsibility is too welfare of ALL her students: unrealistic and unfair to blame teacher.

You have to have endless patience and have the right type of personality to teach children, especially children with disabilities or handicaps. I couldn't handle it, she should have known better and chosen a different career.

I got a question what if the hospital gave your son drugs and lied. Said you was the one who gave him drugs but it on their paperwork since he was born. Everytime they give your son a vaccine they give him a drugs they claim it was a vaccine?

I once worked at a preschool for a very short time before leaving as i couldn't take the administration snd how they treated the kids. Ine of the teachers told me before i started working there their administrators tied a childs feet to the chair w his shoe laces. I was mortified, i quite that day and im happy to say they are now shut down. 😢crazy people, never be too careful w wear you place your child. Even if they have camera's

In eighth grade, the teachers in my 0 period class trapped us in the classroom, locked us in, and physically grabbed us and pulled us into the classroom, and they never got in trouble. This is unacceptable!

Many of these teachers aren’t trained to care for these children. Many parents must also work with their child’s pediatrician to consider small doses of medication to address agitation. Especially as they go into puberty. Children with autism start to show signs of agitation around puberty 7 and up. Also, behavioral management must be considered. The key is early diagnosis with ABA speech and behavioral therapy. Many parents are in denial. There is an large and growing autism community.

Another case of hiring unqualified personal. Federal school system is a joke. We should do away with the department of education.

Ummmm cameras in the classroom please. Parents if your nonverbal child is acting bothered from the day at school or their behavior changes drastically most of the time the teacher is not telling you the truth about the tveir day.

As a mom with an autistic child this is beyond horrible I have gotten school staff fired because teachers thinking these kids aren't worth much and treat them badly ...makes so mad

Sad the schools are not equipped to deal with special needs kids , those kids need to be somewhere they can be looked after in a proper way, one teacher and an aid trying to deal with mutiple kids , with special needs get overwhelming when they get a kid who needs 1 on 1 supervision thing get un manageable for the teacher

I home school my nonverbal autistic son because he was being abused at school. This is more common than people like to think. Just look at how our disabled and elderly are treated in residential care homes. Predators love finding jobs where they can abuse the vulnerabilities of others.

What are teachers and their assistants supposed to do with a child who is putting themselves or others in danger? Restraining is a response to dangerous behavior. I highly doubt they just decided to restrain him for no reason. It is awful that both students and teachers are not supported by a system that requires our public schools by law to educate and manage the behaviors of children who often cannot handle the school environment. All the people calling for long prison sentences for teachers should try being one for a day. Parents send kids to school with problems they themselves cannot handle at home and then expect a teacher who is responsible not only for the education but also the safety of an entire classroom to manage their out of control child. Teachers are forced to put themselves and other students at risk and then face lawsuits and prison time for trying to keep everyone safe. All you teacher bashers have no clue. A non verbal child sometimes simply does not belong in a typical school setting. So starting the story with “teachers tie up a non verbal child” automatically paints the teachers as sadistic abusers. I have compassion for kids with disabilities but some not only should not be mainstreamed but are being traumatized just by the experience of being there and not learning much. Often these kids are so distressed just coming to school it is a battle to get them off the bus. It is time to rethink our education policies regarding kids with intense needs-everyone’s education is suffering under the current plan.

You never ever restraint a child. I work with children on the ASD. It's been 27, years. We have never restrained a child. We have Professional Development courses every year about this. What the heck is wrong with them? The sad thing is if they were so comfortable doing this in front of a camera. What are they doing where cameras aren't around?

Time to open special PUBLIC schools for non verbal kids- and all the kids on the spectrum that are driving teachers to the brink of insanity! Teachers don't get paid enough to provide all the extra "specialized" care for so many differently abled kids. What the yeachers did was absolutely wrong & dispicable- I've also seen parents of these spectrum kids do a helluva lot worse! They expect teachers to deal with it 🤷

Sad this happened to the child. However, have any of you dealt with an autistic child that’s screaming like a devil and won’t stop? Or being physically combative toward you or other students? If so how did you stop the child? Did you, restrain the child? Sometimes you have to to be honest.I’ve worked in the emergency room how do you deal with these kids? You tie them up in a papoose. And you give them drugs. True story

Have you felt safe about the other kids around him.?THis teacher should have called for hel,p from other teachers or a counselor who had some expertise in such difficullt moments..which could have resulted ininjury to other kids nearby. Special training for special needs kids!!!!
