RC Trail Crawling a TRX4-Sport at night with DIY LED rock lights. Do they work well?
In this episode I run solo with the TRX4-Sport K5 Blazer project and decide that it would be a good time to show the LED rock lights that I installed to the test. We also ya know some new lines on the forward rock damn. Turns out to be a little more challenging at night but the LED lights prove to be of great value and help along the trail.

      @drivencrawlformanceRC I've wanted to get into this type of thing for year's now.

    • @drivencrawlformanceRC
      @drivencrawlformanceRC 13 днів тому

      @@someoldguy109 well there are many affordable ways to get into this hobby. Sure there are some pricy platforms that really get you started with just about everything you’ll need. But even those will be upgraded once that addiction really sets in. Before I bought my first trail/rock crawler I looked for nearly 6 months straight and read any and every article that I could possibly find all on 110 scale RC Trail rock crawlers. And then I got onto UA-cam and did a deep dive and found so many good sources like RC review and RC driver those were good places to start with. Then I started to look at smaller channels such as my own that’s trying to grow and they were not pushing so many products that there was a different one each time, but they were using the same platforms and upgrading them and you could see it step-by-step, and trail by trail and rock by rock and see if the rigs were breaking or malfunctioning or if they were changing stuff all the time what set ups they were trying here and there what products they were trying it’s interesting. There are several platforms within the $200-$400 range that can do a lot for you and it depends on what you really wanna do and what you really like for instance, are you in the full scale type of platforms where you have a licensed body. Such as like my K5 blazer body or they have the full size Chevy truck body and the Ford late 70s truck body I’m pretty sure similar to the bronco bodies. I’m sure you’ve seen those on some channels and what not. Had I known what I known now when I started I would’ve gone in a different direction, but I definitely know I can help people and get them in the right direction based on how they see themselves using their platform. For instance, are you wanting to do just trail crawling where you’re driving through the woods hitting a few roots and branches and hills maybe some mud puddles maybe drive-through shallow Creek? Or are you feeling the desire to scale, big rock faces and getting your truck near vertical up and down and really testing the limits of your rig and the tires and suspension? I can honestly tell you there are way more trail trucks that can do light crawling on rocks just like my TRX four and my red cat Gen 8 V2. Both both the TRX-4 Sport and Gen 8 V2 are very solid platforms that you can get tons and tons of enjoyment and just about every outing you go on with minimal and I mean very minimal breakage on any of your parts as long as they’re not bashing the other living crap out of them, and trying to jump them off ramps and stuff lol. I honestly in my TRX-4 Sport only have brass weights in the servo mount, the inner and outer portal housings, the rear outer portal covers, the front and rear wheels also have weights on the insides of them. That might be it. Other than that the suspension is box stock. Now the body and lights and engine simulator is all for looks and not performance obviously. But wheel and tire sizes and patterns….omg you can get yourself wrapped up into so many different ones it will drive you nuts…but in a good way because there are so many great choices to try out. The scaled accessories is a list that can go on for days with all of the new 3D printed stuff people are getting out there today. So for the scaled rigs/platforms there is almost no limit when waiting to upgrade in that aspect of it all. Now all the same can also go for your 1/18th and 1/24th scales crawlers. For $100 you can score a RedCat Ascent 1/18 and have probably one of the best RTR 1/18th scale platforms to work with. And for $140 you can get the brand new Redcat 1/18th scale Scout which looks like a Baby Gen 8 v2 Scout. I’m definitely grabbing that new baby scout for my indoor crawling course I’ve been slowly but surely building for those days of inclement weather or when it’s just to god Offaly hot outside. The way I started all of this was I looked on Facebook marketplace and found a used TRX-4 Sport. The original owner never took it outside and he still had the box it came in which is a major plus. And I scoured it up for $280.00. Now I drove 200 miles to get it but well worth it. It became my flagship trail crawler after a major transformation where you see it at its current state today. That was three years ago and the only thing I’ve replaced that broke was the front steering hubs which I ended up changing to grass brass for weight gain anyway on the front but it also gave it brute strength because those turning hubs are knows to break under heavy binding. Anyway I can go on and on about these. If you ever have any questions about anything just holler I’d be more than happy to steer you in a good direction. Take car and Happy New Year!!

    • @drivencrawlformanceRC
      @drivencrawlformanceRC 21 день тому

      @@callmetatersalad132 You are pretty spot on with your comment buddy. See I like to think of it as a way people that are really into cars and trucks that can’t build their full scale dream rides have a chance to build a smaller one in great detail exactiy the way they want to. They could be very limited with a full scale 1:1 because of the absolute cost it takes these days to build your own car,truck or hot rod etc etc. These 1/10th scale trucks and crawlers are so detailed they look real on video sometimes. Add in and engine simulator system and you have an RC car that sounds like a real built up engine but is GREEN all the way because it’s fully electric lol. Also the challenge to climb or clear obstacles or pull trailers etc etc you name it…the almost near ability to be able to make possible be it your dream Crawler, rally car, trophy truck ,daily driver and the list can go on for so long but scaled down to the RC size that you prefer. It almost lets you kinda day dream or use your imagination to be able to settle that crave for something which you couldn’t normally do without the extreme costs. Yeah RC’s can be pricey but we’re talking hundreds of dollars vs tens of thousands for your full scale vehicles. We all have a big kid inside us and for some of us this is an outlet to give us a brief moment of satisfaction and achievement or even therapy from the daily struggle or monotonous lifestyle we currently reside in. As long as you still have an imagination and vision you can pretty much satisfy that need or want all be it much smaller but nevertheless fun indeed. And I think that’s the most important part about our hobby is to just have some fun and kick back and show off your hard work and be proud of it. Just my two cents. Thanks for leaving that comment it was great and I’m glad you liked the video and I hope you subscribe and share. I have much much more content coming out with more rock and trail crawling to bashing and crazy cool stunts along with some testing and new unboxing as well. And there will be some triple 3(tech, tips & tricks episodes).

    I have no complaints about the TRX-4 shocks on any of my TRX-4s! I found that the cap on the bottom of the shock, the name of which escapes me right now, needs to be loosened a little to allow better piston shaft movement! It reduces or eliminates "sticksion" and I haven't had a shock leak.. My TRX-4 Sport has seen the most use of all of them. I use Treal wheels and Pro-Line Tires. I like the Hyrax and the Baja Pro X both in Predator compound. Personally, I never found the Canyon Trail tires to be anything but a great all-around tire. However, I am quick to say that the Pro-Line tires that I mentioned above will easily out perform the Canyon Trail tires in my opinion! My Sport climbed much better in all terrain challenges with the Pro-Line tires and the Hyrax tire performs very well as a snow tire on my TRX-4 21 Bronco! There are so many great options out there to choose from, a person can get a good Trail Truck set up to do just about anything! :) Thanks for making this video my friend and have a very MERRY CHRISTMAS! :)

    • @drivencrawlformanceRC
      @drivencrawlformanceRC 24 дні тому

      @@rt66rc86 I love those new Bronco TRX4’s. Yeah same here about the factory shocks. I haven’t had one leak in three years. I do need to change the oil in them as part of maintaining everything every few months or if I’ve done any water crossings. But I really see no need in buying any aftermarket ones at all because they do the job they need to do for me anyway. I’ve had the Hyrax tires and they were pretty good. I guess I should reiterate that they are a very good all around trail tire. But honestly I’ve had no issues on the rocks at all either by the videos. Now I will say that I haven’t used them in mud at all. In fact I don’t travel through much mud to think of really. At least nothing like a mud pit or mud run. I have had several BF Goodrich mud terrain and Baja terrain tires and they were meh ok I guess. Oh I also cut sipes into my tread blocks so to get better suction and traction. That seems to go a long way I think. Now I’m by no means any expert in RC’s but I am a master tech of 30yrs and owning my own shop for 20yrs so what knowledge I do have in automotive performance I try carry that forward to the RC stuff. I’m going to check out your suggestion on the lower shock cap and see how that works. Sounds like a great idea. Very good stuff man. Thanks for the suggestions. And I’m so glad you liked the video. I have many more coming out soon so be in the 👀 lookout. Thanks for the holiday wishes and you yourself have a wonderful Christmas and Happy New Year as well. Take care. • @drivencrawlformanceRC
      @drivencrawlformanceRC 8 місяців тому

      Lmao YES we should avoid the dang skate parks but man they can be really fun especially when you don’t break them badly and you walk away feeling like your the shit because your buddy/buddies all destroyed their rigs. While we all have days where we are just plain lucky it’s at those times where taking advantage of strutting your stuff has to happen because how many of those are we actually going to rack up all the time. I am completely happy doing controlled jumps that show the ability and composure of my platforms and what they can do on a realistic stunt/jump where one can repeatedly accomplish said feats of RC acrobatics. While going full send into a wall or tree is entertaining for those of us who aren’t demolishing or rigs I just can’t afford to repair and replace so many parts for the half dozen platforms that I currently run. I’m so picky I still keep them all clean after each run and detail them to make them look almost brand new after watching them get dusty or muddy. Hell I even put tire dressing on the tires and ceramic sealer on the bodies and plastics to help the dirt and grime lift off easy as can be. It just isn’t in me to beat the piss out of anything that I work hard to save money for to just let it go to a scrap heap donor rig. I will say though that I am gradually being able to not freak out so much if I get some road rash on the bodies or dents and brake the occasional cheap replacement part here or there. I mean I said to myself these were meant to enjoy and bash and race so freaking let er’ rip like they do in the videos that the manufacturers produce. It’s also nice talking to manufacturers and engineers and getting their input on how far to push their products without having to spend so much money on spare parts. Although a lot of us are the ones that give all the feedback because we usually find out what’s strong and what isn’t because the users find a way to do the impossible with crazy outcomes that can’t even be fathomed in the design and testing stages of their product development groups. Ha ha yeah I tend to go off on tangents from time to time. Sorry bout that. Thanks for watching and commenting. I absolutely love hearing feedback and viewers stories and technical tips as well. This RC community has some of the coolest and most helpful people in it.

I want to find some new wheels and tires to go with this for speed run fun on asphalt and concrete so I’m looking and will surely video what I find very soon because I just cracked one of my Sparks wheels 😡. So upset but oh well life in the RC world right?! Thanks again for the kind words and advice. And thanks for watching!

    • @PopShot76

      This isn't a beginner truck, but with crawlers it really doesn't matter....not a beginner price for sure

    • @donaldwallace1525
      @donaldwallace1525 10 місяців тому

      @@PopShot76please let me ask you a couple of questions. 1st, isn't it worth the $$, it has everything and would not need upgrading, is that correct? 2nd, would the cheap "beginner" price point vehicles be less reliable and less capable. Wouldn't they need to be replaced sooner. One more, Is there a difference in complexity of operation? Thank you.

    • @PopShot76
      @PopShot76 10 місяців тому

      @@donaldwallace1525 The cheaper ones will likely be more reliable because they are less complex. The lower price doesn't necessarily mean lower quality. Some people like to work their way up in the hobby, others like to start out with the "Cadillac". Either way, if you enjoy your first one, you will want all of them anyway 😁 good luck

      Get the FMS FCX10 K5 Blazer. It is new and released on the market last week. It's $399, with a ton of fun options... Great for Trail and very good for rock crawling. It's ready to go out of the box and you won't need to spend money on upgrading anything for awhile.

      Thanks so much! Yeah they definitely looked different than most designs out there plus they just looked right for the style body and all. I was going to go with standard Rally Wheels with the Beauty rings but opted to do something different since it wasn’t a stock look and more custom, so I went with customer 2.2’s. They are tough and light on the budget.

      Hey thanks so much. Ya I wanted it to stand out as far as bodies are concerned and it took awhile and several different wheel and tire combos to find what really stuck. And I have to say that the 2.2 Canyon Trail tires simply work. They work for everything that I do. I’ve tried proline and BFGoodrich(which I do enjoy on my Gen8V2) and some other knock off brands but they just didn’t offer what these CT’s do. Everyone’s rigs are different and what works for others may not work for all. So it’s got to based solely on driver preference and how the rig reacts etc etc. But how could you go wrong with the 69’ K5 blazer body? It’s so retro and classic and cool as hell in my opinion. I want to get a clear shell and spray it Candy pearl maroon. That would be cool as hell.

    Hello love the video. I myself have a 313mm black carisma 76 f150, I did a chassis swap and used a trx4 sport as my platform. This is how I always wanted to do a 10th scale crawler and I'm looking forward to seeing where it ends up 10 years from now

    • @drivencrawlformanceRC
      @drivencrawlformanceRC Рік тому

      Hell yeah that’s awesome I’d love to see pics of that!! The trx4 sport platform is one of my favorites for all around trail and rock crawling. It’s just so tough and easy to work on. You can’t go wrong at all. Even our Gen8 V2 Scout has been box stock crazy tough. The only thing that’s broken on it in almost 3yrs…well it didn’t brake but the rear drive shaft set screw was frozen to the transfer case shaft and had to be drilled out to remove the broken “aftermarket” driveshaft and was replaced with a new transfer case and stock driveshafts back in. No issues at all. Go figure. I bought the so called tougher d.s. and it didn’t even hold up like the stocks one. 🤦‍♂️ I bet that Ford body all black looks sick as hell. We are going to do something different soon with ours. Stay tuned. Thanks for watching and really soon we are going to have much much more content as after some health concerns and whatnot we are back to full speed ahead and bringing some neat stuff your way so make sure to watch for notifications. Congrats on the purchase of your V2!! Your going to have a lot of fun with that V2. They are built very strong and can do some amazing crawling right out of the box. Two best upgrades to do quickly are 2.2 Beadlock wheels and tires and the Flysky GT5 radio and receiver. The 2.2 beadlocks will widen the track and increase side crawling capabilities as well as overall traction. The Flysky setup will give you control that you never thought was possible with the V2! Then get a Holmes Hobbies Crawlmaster Sport motor for $20 and you’ll be nothing but smiles as to how much better you can modulate rig on any terrain that’s out there. Thanks so much!! I absolutely loved the V2 when I bought it. My 6yr old son is now driving it full time and is making outstanding strides becoming a very talented rock crawler. He loves to bash his Slash so I just purchased an Arma Granite to bask with him since he kinda took over the slash I built years ago. He started driving the slash last fall and he makes me so proud that he can drive the wheels off that 60mph+ short course truck. He just needs to be reminded that Rick crawling needs to be much slower and much more calculating than all out bashing is. He is starting to get the idea though. Lol. Especially after each time he rolls it over ha ha. Anyway thanks and god bless and enjoy!!!
