New to off-roading in a Side by Side? Looking for off road adventure? Own a Segway Villain or thinking about buying one? I share my buying experience, reviews of accessories, where to ride, tips about the Villain, how to videos, & lots more... Learn with me as I begin my adventures in a Villain!
Like the classic "3-hour tour", 1 wrong turn & it's a whole new adventure! FUN/disaster? You decide!
It's New Year's day! This was supposed to be an easy beginner ride (Peralta Road) to help those even newer to UTV's than me have a fun ride. Like the classic "3-hour tour", 1 wrong turn & it's a whole new adventure! When we realized we were not going in the right direction, we looked at our options & decided to connect up with FDR1935 which is the trail into Millsite Canyon. This is not a beginner's trail. After the summer storms, it's no longer the 5/10 rating that onX Offroad states. Our guess is the toughest section is now a 7 to 8 out of 10 and a lot of fun! What do you think? Leave a comment.
Parking: Coordinates: 33.30292, -111.37363
1. From Apache Junction, take US 60 East thru Gold Canyon. Go 7 or 8 miles outside of town.
2. Turn left (33.294287, -111.388303) onto W El Camino Viejo.
3. Drive to the intersection with Ent del Oro Blvd. It's about 1 mile.
4. Lots of parking on the right side of the road (33.30292, -111.37363).
General trail directions (trail signs are rare):
Total distance: ~29 miles
1. Parking area (Coordinates: 33.30292, -111.37363)
2. Right on East El Camino Viejo
3. When this road turns left, we went straight on West El Camino Viejo.
4. Left on West Silver King Road
5. Left on an unnamed road (33.2997, -111.30653)
6. Right on unnamed road (33.30792, -111.30374)
7. Right on unnamed road (33.3162, -111.29723)
8. Left on North Elephant Butte Road (Millsite Canyon)
9. Right on North Hardt Tank Road
10. Turns into FDR 1935. Be sure to close any gates that you open.
11. It gets a bit rough, narrow, steep, with at least 1 or 2 scrapes as you climb.
12. We had lunch & turned around at the flat overlook at the intersection of FDR 1900.
13. We just followed the same path back to the parking/staging area.

Xmas Eve & we needed a quick SxS fix. Bulldog Canyon is close to home, fun, & we’re short on time.
Переглядів 63819 годин тому
It was Xmas Eve day. We needed a quick SxS fix. Larry suggested Bulldog Canyon since it is close, fun, & we were short on time. Our wives had plans for us after 2 PM. It’s another beautiful day, around 60 when we started with a predicted high of 76 degrees. Once again, my Super ATV Flip windshield kept me comfortable. I just opened or closed it as the temperatures changed. The mountains that we...
Exciting ride from the 4 Peaks Road to Saguaro Lake via ridge tops. Looking for 7/10 difficulty. Fun

Another ride into the Rolls OHV from Hwy 87. I wanted high ridge views of the area with Saguaro Lake below. This was supposed to be an exciting ride. I'm looking for a difficulty of 7/10 when possible. I'm still new at this. We'll save the 8 after I have more skill. We made a few wrong turns or missed the turn, however you want to look at. This route was a bit more adventurous than Robin would ...
Our neighbors (Jean & Roger) 1st ride in a long time. She's a fast driver. Can I keep up on 4 Peaks?

This is a dirt road - not a challenging trail - with beautiful scenery. onX Offroad rates 4 Peaks Road with a difficulty of 2/10. Occasionally we have to share the road with a Jeep, truck, or other vehicle. As we climb the views require us to stop & take them in. With a side trip near the top we were nearly at 6,000 feet. The descent on the east side of the mountain has magazine quality views o...
onX rates this as 5 to 7 out of 10. Not sure what that means. We’re about to find out! To the lake!

Gary with his 50" Can-Am Trail and me with the Villain are planning to find adventure in the Rolls OHV area on the way to the Salt River & Saguaro Lake. Today we start learning how to use onX Offroad on our cell phones so we can safely find our way in areas we have never been. For various reasons I don't manage to get started as early as I plan. The sun is setting around 5:17 PM. We don't want ...
No plan. Looking for fun around Montana Mt Loop/Millsite Canyon. Can Robin handle the uncertainty?
Переглядів 494Місяць тому
Rode with Larry in his Villain, Dean & Ken in the Razor, & Robin with me in our Villain. I forgot the camera which delayed us 45 minutes. I had to make a quick trip home. This reduced our play time. We were following Dean for about 3 hours with no actual plan in the Montana Mt Loop/Millsite Canyon area. We lucked out that FS MT-1935 had a challenging section which made the ride more than just a...
Exploring Mineral Mt breath taking vistas-scenic Box Canyon. Can I get the Villain up the waterfall?
Переглядів 576Місяць тому
Dean & Ken in a Razor, & me in the Villain, head into the Mineral Mountain area looking for the Box Canyon Ledge/waterfall. Will we be able to climb to the top or break something? None of us have been here before but we did a lot of research with Google's help. On the way in we stopped to admire the petroglyphs on the Cottonwood trail. The vistas from the Mineral Mountain ridge tops made us sto...
Our new friend, Gary, 50" Can-Am Trail, wanted an exciting ride without the wives. Maybe Widow Maker

Gary & I left our wives at home today for an adrenalin adventure at Sycamore Creek. He drove his 1000cc Can-Am Trail the 14 miles from his RV site to the Bush OHV parking area. I trailered the Villain the 30 miles there. By the time we were ready to head out another trailer showed up with a nice-looking Polaris Razor. The 2 guys in the truck cab were Canadians. We joined forces for the day with...

Last week Larry showed me Bulldog Canyon, then we went back with our wives. Today Robin is with us doing the camera work, of course! We also have a Canadian couple with a 1000cc Can-Am Trail. It's only 50" wide. Where our 72" wide Villains glide over rough terrain their machine is quite active or from Robin's point of view, it's very tipsy & scary! Just how much excitement will we have today? B...

The 2023 Segway Villain SX10 WX looks great with the OEM lower door panels. Unfortunately, the excellent video from "Side by Side Fury" is focused on a 2024 Villain & there are a few differences in the 2023. Larry figured it out and wants to share with others. We hope this will fill in the blanks. You will need the "Side by Side Fury" install video (link below) as the main install aide. Use thi...

Our 2023 Segway Villain SX10 WX came with a lot of standard items that are accessories on most other brands. For example: 4,500-pound winch, trailer hitch receiver, rock sliders, 9" x 4" Digital Dash Information Center - GPS tablet with security location, 4-Point Safety harness not a lap belt, and 30" tires with bead lock aluminum wheels. Of course, there are many items that I know I must have ...
We had a sidewall puncture on the trail. No spare! What to do? Can we get the Villain home safely?
Переглядів 6203 місяці тому
Our 2023 Segway Villain SX10 WX had a sidewall puncture during a ride in Nevada. I don't have a spare tire/wheel. They're heavy & expensive. I did a temporary trail side repair & bought a new tire after we returned home. I asked the shop about balancing the wheel. Apparently, this is not a thing for a side by side. I was told the weights would just get knocked off, but a lot of people use "bala...

Great video. You did a super job blending in the music, narration and actual sound track.
I appreciate the positive feedback. Thanks!
That windshield is so fly! I see you've discovered chapters...nice touch.
The windshield makes it so comfortable. As the temperature changes, I open/close. Easy!
7 out of 10????? No way was that more than a 6.99999. Villain is still looking great!
Thanks for the input: I found the definition for the difficulty rating at www.onxmaps.com/offroad/app/features/technical-trail-ratings. It looks like it's actually a 6/10. Meaning: Very rocky, rutted and off-camber trail with erosion, loose rocks, sand, washes and obstacles up to 3 feet tall, including ledges and short, steep grades. Potential for deep water crossings with strong currents. To qualify as a 7/10 the obstacle has to be at least 5 feet tall. Next time I will take a tape measure. :-)
Here is ChatGPT's guess at the round stone structure when I uploaded a picture from your video ....This round stone structure appears to be an old cistern or water storage tank, which is common in desert areas like the Rolls OHV region in Arizona. These structures were historically used to collect and store water, often for livestock or early settlers in remote areas.
Sounds right. Now the question is who lived there, when, etc. 😉
thanks for sharing. Can't wait to get my trailer so that I can maybe join you.
Any time!
Rough ride and lots of people. Gila mountain loop was also pretty crowded. Just went to vekol valley rd and a lot less people but plan for atleast 40 miles of riding.
Merry Christmas! Nice meeting you and wife and I subscribed
Thanks. Hope you are enjoying the holidays. The weather is great! I'm hoping to get out on Friday. We'll see if that works.
Awesome video!! Hope to have a winter dwelling in AJ area soon! Our Kawasaki Ridge XR would love those trails!💪🤞🏻 Merry Christmas from Northern Michigan 🎄
There's a lot of Michigan people who live in AJ . Hope you join us. These trails are great fun! Enjoy the holidays! We'll be on the trails. 😀
Enjoyed your video! Been on that 1813 trail out to Saguaro Lake Cove # 2 many times. The club has a numbers of Rolls OHV Area / Four Peaks Mtn Summit / EL Oso Mine GPS tracks on our website. Join the PAUC and enjoy the fun of club rides around Phoenix. Happy Trails...
Thanks
Very nice video! Have to get you on one of our club rides! We have a couple of GPS tracks of the Florence Box Canyon and Middle Gila Canyons OHV Area. Happy Trails...
That sounds like fun. Groups make interesting videos.
"SUH-WAR-OH" Lake.
I need to work on that. Thanks!
Goddess get on with it. Damn
Ok
Looks like a blast.
It's so much fun 😁
Great area to take the Family. Mom and I will stage at the Pebrocito (SP) overflow parking area off Bush HWY. Trail 13 to 1863 N to 143 and loop back around to 13. It's not challenging but for a scenic trip go over the top of Four Peaks to HWY 188. All 2WD but great views of Roosevelt Lake. We do it in a small street legal HONDA 520 SXS.
I could play out there for days. It's such a fun and beautiful area. Of course, my wife loves water so taking her to any of the coves could slow the day down. :-)
I am not sure how far you will drive for a trail ride but outlaw trail just south of Sedona is a really nice trail ride. There are other trails there too. There are Indian dwellings in the cliffs that you can stop and look at and you can actually drive into Sedona from the trails and do their famous Broken Arrow trail. I drive up there from Glendale once in a while and do the trails. there are plenty of UA-cam videos of broken arrow and Outlaw trails on UA-cam.
Thanks for the info. We'll have to check that out when it starts getting hot in our area - maybe April or May. We live in Apache Junction & the weather is perfect right now. Just need a little rain to reduce the dust! :-)
Gotta really good ride this Sunday, it's a 2.5 out of 5 on the difficulty scale !!
We have been thinking about going but suspect it will be a bit chilly for Robin. We may have to wait for warmer temperatures. I know you will have fun without us. Darn! :-)
I don't understand why you guys are getting rocks inside your cab. I have bother Can am X3 and Polaris pro xp and never get debris inside the cabs unless its mud. Is it just the way the Segway is designed you are having these issues? I am very curious why this is happening for y'all.
It's Arizona, we have lots of rocks in various sizes. My fender flares do a great job of keeping them out.
The rolls is a lot of fun on weekdays. try safety wire as a back-up connection to things that may fall off the rig, basically everything. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for the tips! I try not to ride anywhere on the weekends. 😅
Quite a winter you are having there DV!
You may not know this, but this is a fun place! :-)
That climb at 6:20 is definitely the 5-7 onX is referring to for this route (5 on the left, 7 on the right). There are a few others like it out there. Great OHV area.
We went down one side & came up the other so I guess we did both. It was a fun hill except for the GoPro death! ;-)
Haha awesome!
You were the 🌟
@ thank goodness I made it lol
We were thrilled you made it safely up and down that insanely steep climb. Great job!@jeremygraham7976
Note to self. Always tether your GoPro 😁
Good call!
Man, where did Larry get that spare tire holder? you hadn't added it to your list.
It's very cool and a bit pricey. Segway 2022+ Villain SX10/W Tire Carrier / Adventure Rack Regular price $775.00 drtmotorsports.com/products/segway-2022-villain-sx10-w-tire-carrier-adventure-rack
Love the videos, one suggestion, maybe mix up the music a little
You are absolutely right. I just like that one a lot. I'll what I can do.
Great video! Definitely didn’t think about that fancy mirror with the back up camera built in that’s sick!
Gary loves that one . It's on my future purchase list.
It’s hard for videos to do justice on how steep a cliff really is, and this one does that looks insane! Very nice
I now look forward to that hill whenever I go into that area.
My wife were thinking of buying a CFMoto ZForce 950 Sport, had a Cforce 800xc atv for 3 years and loved it, but accidentally stumbled on your videos, now were are thinking of the Segway instead. If you had to do it all over again would you do anything different
I've only driven a villain, so I am not able to do a comparison. I do love the Villain.
looks like a great ride. Is there descent boondocking areas for a 20' travel trailer near the start of this trail?
I don't have a trailer, so I don't know. See if there is camping at the lake, then you can do the loop in reverse.
@@DesertVillain thank you good idea!
Is that machine still holding up well? Anything major or minor go wrong?
Both headlights died but were replaced under warranty. Other than that, it's been great. Almost 900 miles. Going out tomorrow. Love it!
Curious to see how it holds up, I know a few can ams with crazy high mileage. And Kawasaki krx are becoming a fast favorite for rental companies because so far they are getting 20k miles and counting. Talked to a company and they said their rental rzr has 15k miles and on its third motor.
@toyo7a Over 1,000 miles. Still going strong. As of July, Segway has a lifetime warranty on their drive train. I have a 2023, so I haven't looked into the details. I think they believe in their quality.
Looks like a great time. Mom and I have done the Montana loop many times with the Honda and the Jeep.
Yes it was!
So many trails...so little time. Great Job Ed & Robin!
And we finished early 🙌 😌
Fun!
We did have fun - even without a plan. 😀
Found a fellow rock collector with Ken. I actually threw one of the rocks away as it was not quite as cool. So many cool rocks on this ride but we don't stop!
We'll need a trailer to carry just a few of the rocks Robin will find if I stop. Drive faster Ed! 😉
Ditch the GoPro. Hate mine. Went to DJI, and wow. Cheaper and better. Way more reliable.
Just ordered a DJI Osmo Action 4 Adventure Combo on the Amazon black Friday deal. The GoPro can't handle the heat or processing video at speed with nearby object. I'm hopeful the DJI will be a better solution.
Box Canyon is great. For those who want a quicker route, stage on Price Road. If y’all haven’t checked out Montana Mountain, which starts on the other side of the 60, definitely do it. In the winter you might even find snow up there.
Neighbors took us to Montana Mountain on our 5th ride. It was an amazing ride & quite intense for a newbie!
Most of the time I can't understand what you are saying.
When I have more money I will buy a quality 🎤. In the meantime, maybe more text boxes will help. I understand closed captions are available. Hopefully, you are able to enjoy the video enough to keep watching until I improve the sound. Thanks for watching!
Looks like a fun trip. I'm not going to make it on the 30th here in Payson. Too many family coming into Town
It was another great adventure. We can't make it for the Payson ride on the 30th, either. Bummer
Nice, we’ve been up that way in the Jeep and in Razers.
It was a new challenge for me. Working on skills.
Nice video, thanks for sharing. I haven’t been there yet, not sure how the General XP4 would do on the water fall. Waiting for my new trailer in January. Hope I can join you for a trail ride. Keep sharing.
I suspect it will do fine. I am looking forward to going back someday so I can go up/down it a few times until I feel comfortable. Hope you can join us.
It’s important to never lose momentum up those sketchy parts. Well done.
That's for sure. I need to work on the "bump" more. :-)
Another great video Ed. See you soon. You too Robin!
Thanks!
Ed brought be back a "small" quartz crystal rock. Thank you Ed! There's bigger quartz rocks out there that I want!
If Robin had been there, I'm sure the 4 plugs wouldn't have been able to support the extra rock weight to get us home! :-)
Nice video and great country!! See ya next Sunday - Dave
You need to come down & go for a ride with us.
Time for new tires. I was lucky enough to find some System3 350s locally (exactly what I wanted) for half price barely used. The factory tires are great in dirt but have a lot of vulnerable areas in sharp rocks. As for the waterfall climb... I think you forgot the fact you have a locking diff. You'd have walked right up that stuff if it was engaged, I'm gunna bet. Its getting colder here... You're lucky to still be adventuring without bundling up!
I was excited about the waterfall & forgot all about the diff lock until the climb was over. Next time!
another very nice tour ❤️ beautiful region to practice our hobby there with you 👍
I am amazed by the desert scenery, terrain, & sky. It's always a "WOW"!
Great job , excellent narrator and camera work.♥️
Thanks for the compliments.
This Villain might be your best purchase yet! What a blast!
I'm having a lot of fun with this machine. It makes things that look impossible almost easy. When are you getting one?
Make a video in the flagstaff cinders. Hope our Payson group can go camping there someday. If you look it up on u-tube there are many videos showing you what it is. Look up flagstaff cinders 100 dollar hill. There is a trail up the backside of $100 hill. We usually camp at the dry lake by the entrance. Lots of shade and trees!
The stock tires are perfect for that sandy, rutted dirt. I've thought about it and I think I'd rather have a big quad rather than a narrow trail SxS. Those trail models are just too tipsy. In fact, on my last trip a few days ago I came upon a rolled trail model of some kind where a teenage girl had hit an unexpected wash-out (following better machines) and didn't really have the skills to deal with it. Everyone seemed mostly OK and they didn't need my help but I mean, on a quad you could have just stood up a bit and soaked up the bump.
Skill is the answer.
Very nice 👍❤️👍
Thanks for watching
