This happened to my LG mez66990903 recently. Just to ask the obvious question here - I enjoy fixing things as much as anyone, but why would I spend $130+ to fix a microwave that only cost me $199? This doesn't make any sense. My plan is to buy a *non-LG* new microwave oven. Good video otherwise.
Excellent Video. Ordered the panel from LG for $130, followed this video for an easy replacement! I used needle nose vice grip pliers to remove and replace the "special torx" screws on back. Also, found it easier to remove and reinstall white turn lever after the control panel was removed from the microwave (as he found out in his video). LG's engineers that designed the push button assembly "hinges" must have degrees as Model Railroad Engineers .....very shoddy design to break and require purchase of the whole expensive control panel.....Bad design! BUT this video was awesome and very well photographed and explained! Thanks
I've had this microwave for only about 2 years and it's been replaced twice. Same exact issue as yours. I will never purchase another LG microwave for as long as I live..
You sir get a thumbs up! So the same door situation happened to our LG unit. I was able to clearly identify the issue early with the broken-off tab…. used some crazy glue as a temp fix. Of course the tab rebroke when somebody opened the microwave with a little too much thumb force! Time for a permanent fix! Anyways, thank you for the quick tutorial. The biggest thing was trying to take off the outer shell. New controller on the way from LG. Same price, $125-ish, but they’ve got a 20% off all parts Labor Day special going on so that saved a few bucks. Kudos to you!
Thank you so much for such a detailed breakdown of the repair! Mine started to do the same thing, the top hinge tab that holds the button on the right was partially broken leaning backwards so it wasn’t holding the button when you pressed it. Since it was only partially broken I moved it forward to it’s correct location, super glued over the crack and all along the entire base, then backfilled behind the hinge tab with super glue to ensure it never goes backward again. I hope this works! Thank you again so much! With your help I believe I have saved my microwave!
Thanks for the video! Ours is flopping, but still opens for now. If I can't shame LG into providing parts somehow, I'll try and repair with fabricated metal parts and JB-Weld. If I'm successful, I'll share my results with a video.
@@LawrenceMurphy-z7z Our door latch is still hanging on, but floppy so I haven't needed to repair it yet. I will make a video of the repair when it does break completely.
Do you still have the broken part? I am thinking of contacting a shop to see about having metal replacements made for these hinge parts... $130 for a replacement panel on a microwave that cost around $200 something only because it is the ONLY model made to fit in a $300+ trim kit is ridiculous! Shame on LG!
I did throw out the broken parts. My microwave doesn't sit within custom cabinetry, but I did decide to do this repair because I didn't want to throw such a big item into a landfill. Still, the decision to repair wasn't obvious.
Thank you. I understand completely! Ours has failed at the exact point yours did and after researching this a little bit, it seems this is a super common failure point. I am still going to try to see if I can get some type of metal hinges made. Thank you so much for replying to my comment!
Thank you for the video. Fairly easy repair. Unfortunate that LG choose this design and plastic building quality on a part that you have to use every time you use the microwave! Metal parts here would be ideal. Ours lasted about 2 years but we have been limping on using the button easy since I knew it was broken (at 1.5 yr mark). The issue is that there are not many microwave options at a reasonable price point. Here, it will cost you $130-170 in parts when the microwave new can be had for around $200 on sale. We have LG everything and this is first item to disappoint us. I am going to spend the money and fix it this time (thanks to this video) but next time it will be a new microwave from a different company unless LG brings it together for a quality build. Great video. Clear, concise, to the point with excellent description.
Where did you purchase your latch/panel replacement? I'm going to try to get my extended care plan to cover it (renewing it costs about the same as the part) but if not, I'd need to know where to get the exact part. Thanks!
Here's the website where I got the parts: lgparts.com/products/lmc2075st?variant=39677843767475&tw_source=google&tw_adid=&tw_campaign=20016480936&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwi_exBhA8EiwA_kU1Mmw7XeHg3SVxSGusQ_2fFHG8js-Nh8_AIKduqYoC2BY2wUR8qC1OBBoC0LYQAvD_BwE The control panel is $125.95 and the proper door latch replacement was $46.95
Thanks for posting this. I have the same problem. 1 cent piece of plastic on the door hing breaks and I have to spend about 100 bucks to replace the whole control panel body! No more LGs. Anyway, I appreciate your posting the replacement process. LG doesn't show the replacement diagram anywhere. Cheers to you!
Couldn’t have fixed this poorly designed POS without your vid. Thanks so much!

Excellent video. I had the exact same part break on my LG microwave and your video made switching out the control panel a snap! Thanks!

Thanks for sharing this video, maybe they should hire your for expert tech support.
What an excellent video! I really appreciate your detailed breakdown and reassembly. Thanks to your cinematographer, too!

Let me know how JB Weld holds up. I use that at work all the time. I should have tried that first.
