From "Churchill's People" (series, 1974-1975), ep. "Shouts and Murmurs". The Peasants' Revolt, also named Wat Tyler's Rebellion or the Great Rising, was a major uprising in 1381. The revolt had various causes, including the socio-economic and political tensions generated by the Great Plague, the high taxes resulting from the conflict with France during the Hundred Years' War, and general instab...

My mind was all over the place with this one "Clip". ☺️ I'm sitting here watching, and wondering why in the world the Battle of Trafalgar rings a bell? But then I begin noticing the wonderful Cast of this Film 🎭 Peter Finch's! "Network" ~ the epitome of today's News Media's propaganda and sensationalism (in my American opinion)😇 is iconic. Also, I knew I recognized Glenda Jackson❣️ I didn't know she became a MP. Thank you for this Clip. Michael, as usual blended in perfectly being the prolific Actor he was.

I have never seen this before, and just assumed the series was another lost-forever BBC treasure! 😭 I wonder… could this mean you or someone might possibly have Daphne Slater in Precious Bane? It's the first time I've ever seen Daphne Slater beyond her photo. And I know the Precious Bane would be just incredible if this Jane Eyre is any sign! I can't imagine how they even told the story in the 1950's, to be honest. (It's quite radical and they would need to be creative!) Daphne and the rest of the cast must be amazing in it. @@mrrochesterfan Oh dear, I was afraid of that. I do hope it's found one day!! I can't imagine how hard it is tracking these things down. (I wonder if the director's family could have a copy.) THANK YOU so much for looking into it for me! I don't know if there is anything I can do, but I do have my fingers-crossed for luck that it and other treasures will be found. Did you know that a crucial piece of Jim Henson's A Christmas Carol was lost by Disney? The scene is the turning point of Ebenezer Scrooge's character and it's musical theme echoes through the whole film! After it's release, Disney apparently edited the scene out. And then lost it on the cutting room floor. 🫢 It drives me crazy that Disney sells it today with the critical scene "missing" and not restored in any form. Not only is A Christmas Carol a beloved story, but this was the film that Mr. Henson basically died for, as I recall. It was indefensible in the first place to cut it. It boggles my mind how precious performances and interpretations ~ even treasured movies and 6 part creations of Jane Eyre, Precious Bane could be lost! Oh, I do do hope both of our lists of lost treasures are found. And I wish there was something I could do about it! I remember a story of lost film being discovered in a Hollywood flea market. So we should never give up hope! 🎬🎞️✨ Thank you so much for your important archiving efforts, RochesterFan ~ bringing what you love to us ~ because sharing them keeps the love for these artistic works alive and strong! Thank you so much for your lovely feedback! I'm so sorry about Precious Bane too but there's always hope the series surfaces one day, from a private collection, fingers crossed! It's unbelievably hard to find out anything about lost programmes (I've tried to find Michael Jayston's lost ones and the 2 missing eps. of Jane Eyre 1963), wrote to so many people, they either know nothing or they don't reply. It's tragic that many tapes were wiped in the 70's, to be re-used. Even programmes that weren't wiped, like The David Frost Show (the interview with Michael Jayston, Tom Baker) are impossible to find because the owners simply prefer to keep them locked. I didn't know about A Christmas Carol, they should have kept a copy of the original one, absolutely, that's unforgivable. Best wishes and many thanks!

His performance is always spot-on. Now whether Nicolas II is to be portrayed as a "callous tyrant" or a well-intentioned, yet little bit better than good for nothing ruler, I have no idea, but for Michael Jayston, he always shows respects for the Character 🎭 Looking forward to the rest of the "Clips" 🎬

The Tsar and his family were canonised by the Russian Church in 2000... The Tsar wasn't a bloody tyrant, just a weak leader. There is a scene with Ian Holm (playing Yakovlev, a Bolshevik), he calls him "bloody Nicholas" but the truth is that Bloody Sunday wasn't ordered by the Tsar (he wasn't even in town) and the Bolsheviks caused dozens of millions of deaths themselves, before and after the revolution. No matter what the Tsar would or wouldn't have done, they had no chance from the start... No one from the royal family was left alive (they could have claimed the throne afterwards), not even the witnesses.

I had low expectations about this "Jane Eyre" adaptation after watching some of its previous ones released in 50s and 60s but my gosh that was such a brilliant version. A lof of dialogues strayed far from the novel but it managed to make up for it for being scary in tone from its source material. Ann Bell was a fine Jane actress for showing her determination, feistiness and passionate. Richard Leech was also great for similar reasons and he's the only Mr. Rochester actor who seemed to have closest physical resemblance to his character. How sad why this version is incomplete due to BBC and many TV network's policy of wiping many of their old shows at the time but somehow I'm glad somebody volunteered to record and preserve it for many years. Wishing that the rest of missing episodes will be found. This version was fantastic and I can see why BBC had interest to continue adapting few more "Jane Eyre" adaptations.

Thank you so much for the lovely coomment. I so much wish the 2 missing eps show up somewhere. Tried everything, wrote to libraries, archives but no one could help. On the other hand my instinct tells me someone might have them, a private collector perhaps. There are also closed archives like the Royal one, they might have the entire series, hopefully...

@@mrrochesterfan It's possible that a certain private collector managed to save the missing episodes whether he got the tapes or recorded by himself / herself. Perhaps they may be hidden in a certain area that was purchased by BBC before. At least we know what the 1963 version of "Jane Eyre" looked like and it was fortunately recorded compare to many British period dramas released in that era where they're either lost or destroyed. That version seemed to have historical significance in "Jane Eyre" adaptations as it started the trend of releasing JE adaptation on BBC every ten years with 1973 and 1983 versions. Time will tell.

I'm sitting here enjoying the audio, when I thought back to when I saw Michael Jayston for the first time. I saw Michael with Helen Mirren in Coffin for the Bride, before later finding that he was part of the Cast of one of my favorite Adaptations 📚 Jane Eyre🎭 However, there was always something about his eyes ~ they were so piercing. I recognized the eyes before I knew it was him.

Sinead Cusack and Prunella Gee played Quiller's girlfriends in the series (13 episodes). The series is absolutely cool and very British.

In this case I prefer St. John Rivers but not Rochester. I`ve never thought Brzobohatý is here, in that film.

So sad to hear this, I had so much hope to see this performance one day... I'll make a video of Michael Jayston's singing, it is interesting that there are 2 versions of Edelweiss with him.

No it was not filmed. I was in this production(many many happy memories)I played the yodeller in the Lonely Goatherd scene. There is a video of the Childrens royal command from the Dominion with the lonely goatherd scene and Pet singing Edelweiss

@@mrrochesterfan I did not think Zelah Clarke or Ruth Wilson looked beautiful in their adaptations. They were made up to look plain. This Jane was beautiful with minimal makeup.

The best Mr Rochester ever. Love the 1973 version of Jane Eyre the best. Michael has a great chemistry with Sorcha Cusack. Rip Michael Jayson. He was a brilliant actor.
