2024-12-29 - Words for the Beginning - Don't forget to laugh - Christmas 2
The birth of Christ brings good news of great joy to all people, which is cause for celebration. On this Sunday after Christmas, we encourage you to be playful, to not take yourself too seriously, to laugh. For laughter is like hope-it has a ripple effect. It’s one of many ways we live and share the good news.

2024 Christmas - Words for the beginning - Love knows your name
Переглядів 1319 годин тому
Christ’s birth makes the vastness of God personal. The God who made the seas and the stars is also the God who made your beautiful hair and your striking eyes. The God of creation takes on flesh, which means you are fully known. When the angels visit the shepherds in the fields, their message is global but also personal: “To you . . . a savior is born.” This birth is good news for everyone, esp...
2024-12-22 - Advent 4 - Words for the beginning - Hope is worth the risk
Переглядів 11День тому
Hope is vulnerable and can feel like a tremendous risk, especially if you’ve experienced loss or trauma. But Mary shows us a resilient hope that takes risks-she risks her body to bear a son who will become the hope of her people. Similarly, Joseph makes a risky choice to stay with Mary; dismissing her quietly would have kept him safe. But instead, he chooses hope. He chooses to trust the angel,...
2024-12-15 - Advent 3 - Words for the beginning - Do the good that is yours to do
Переглядів 614 днів тому
As John the Baptist is teaching about bearing good fruit, the crowds, tax collectors, and soldiers ask him, “What, then, should we do?” His answer to each group is slightly different, but ultimately the same: “Do the good that is yours to do.” We can each bear good fruit through acts of justice and righteousness. We can all be what Isaiah calls “repairers of the breach” by satisfying the needs ...
2024-12-08 - Advent 2 - Words for the beginning - We can't go alone
Переглядів 2121 день тому
One of life’s most essential lessons is that we are never meant to go alone. And yet, modern culture pushes us more and more into lonely silos. If Ruth had followed her culture’s norms, she would have gone home to her family of origin after her husband died, but instead, she commits herself to her mother-in-law, Naomi. Together they form a new family and covenant. Ruth and Naomi travel together...

2024-11-24 - Intergenerational 4 - Joy together
Переглядів 14Місяць тому
This week is our last in our Intergenerational series where we have reminded ourselves of our call to be an intentionally intergenerational community. Psalm 145 says: "Each generation will announce to the next your wonderful and powerful deeds." We join together to fulfill Psalm 145, and the many other scriptures that guide us to worship, pray and remember our stories together. Last week we loo...

Переглядів 26Місяць тому
In our first two weeks on intergenerational ministry we looked at why we join together across the ages. We join together to fulfill Psalm 145:Each generation will announce to the next your wonderful and powerful deeds. This week we look at the how.And in the how, we discover the key isn’t what we do, but how we do it, or to put it another way, what our posture is.When running there are efficient...
2024-11-10 - iGen 2 - Upside down Kingdom of God
Переглядів 9Місяць тому
Our focus this week is the Upside Down Kingdom of God. In our Gospel (Matthew 19:13-14) we hear: "Some people brought their children to Jesus, so that he could place his hands on them and pray for them. His disciples told the people to stop bothering him. But Jesus said, “Let the children come to me, and don’t try to stop them! People who are like these children belong to God’s kingdom.”Jesus v...

Переглядів 22Місяць тому
As we continue to explore our future direction for St Mary by the Sea we are going to be reminding ourselves of the call we have as St Mary by the Sea to become an intentionally intergenerational community. This is a call that the vestry explored several years ago and now we are taking the opportunity to look at what it means, what it looks like, to be genuinely, intentionally and authentically...

This week we begin a new series on the Anglican Marks of Mission to remind us of what is means to be a missional church. The Marks of Mission were developed by the World Council of Christian Church and then adopted by the Anglican Communion. They are our commitment to an understanding of God’s holistic and integral mission. They are: Treasure - To strive to safeguard the integrity of creation, ...

Lovely service of simplicity and peace! Loved the video of the road to Emmaus ~ very well done. Lizx
Lovely service ~ loved the part about Thomas ~ Rob agrees with you absolutely about his being a man of faith. He says Thomas must have been brave too, as he was not locked up in the room with the other disciples when Jesus first visited them.
"Thomas must have been brave too, as he was not locked up in the room with the other disciples when Jesus first visited them." I love that thought! Hope I remember it next time I talk on Thomas. I wonder what he was doing?
It says the disciples were afraid and locked the door because of it so I can only assume he was not as afraid as the others; otherwise was he was on a very urgent 'mission' that over-rode his fear! I did like your thought that he knew what he wanted and was able to ask for it! Great to be able to share insights, despite the lock-down. So glad we have only one more week and hopefully only 2 weeks of Level 3. Have a really good week, Dion! Liz
Thank you. Very moving.
Thanks Margaret. Dion
