Hey there! Here you will find anything around Tech and Gaming!
VB-Audio Matrix: The Ultimate Windows Audio Router
VB-Audio just released a new piece of software called VB-Audio Matrix. VB-Audio Matrix a simple real-time audio router for Windows much like Voicemeeter, but solely focused on audio routing without any built-in effects and other audio processing. It is capable of routing any source and individual audio channel separately. In this video I'll give a quick overview over this new application and the general use.
The video covers the following topics:
- How to connect different audio devices (ASIO, WDM (WASAPI) / KS / MME) to the matrix
- How to route audio between different audio channels

This comprehensive tutorial teaches you how to master Voicemeeter, from zero knowledge to being an expert. Have you ever asked yourself how to manage and separate all your audio while live streaming on UA-cam, Twitch or Kick? - Then this guide is right for you. Although this tutorial is demonstrating the use of Voicemeeter from a streamer's perspective, it's also perfect as a general viewer, to...

UA-cam and OBS just rolled out beta support for AV1 live streaming on UA-cam. Let's have a look at why we should start using AV1 for our live streams right now. We will have a quick comparison between the Nvenc H264 and the new Nvenc AV1 Encoder at 6Mbps. At the end I'll show you, how to get the latest OBS 29.1 Beta to use the AV1 encoder for live streaming on UA-cam. All gameplay footage was r...
THIS IS INCREDIBLE!
As of May 31, 2024, under Windows 10/11 (64-bit), VoiceMeeter now installs a new single virtual audio driver offering 8x virtual audio I/O. The three regular virtual outputs are now displayed with the BUS Name, so you will need to reselect the recording device in all your applications that previously used it. From OLD to NEW: new vaio extension - the outputs are: VoiceMeeter Out A1 through A5. For the old VAIO drivers, the new mappings are as follows: VoiceMeeter Output > VoiceMeeter Out B1, VoiceMeeter Aux Output > VoiceMeeter Out B2, and VoiceMeeter VAIO3 Output = VoiceMeeter Out B3. Go to your PC's Control Panel, click on Hardware and Sound, then click on Sound, and review or change your selections. :)
How do you do this in new windows? The sound settings interface does not look like this anymore
You can still access the old sound settings through the old control panel or in the new sound settings scroll down and click "more sound settings".
I just wanted to say thank you so much for this! I love how you explained why you did each action instead of just saying "do this then do this" like most other tutorials out there. I've been using banana, and decided to switch over to potato and I feel way more comfortable with my audio setup now then what I've been using for the past year. You are a literal life saver!!!!
Eu usei meu voicemeeter errado a vida toda, cara você foi sensacional nas explicações, muito detalhista e bem especifico, abriu minha mente para este programa serei eternamente grato parabéns pelo conteúdo.
Thank you so much for your great and detail explanation. Looking forward for another cool contents. Please explain how to fix troubleshooting such as audio stuttering and delay
Hi, I'm trying to get two audio outputs to combine, that way I'll be able to hear both but obs will only record one, do you know how this would be possible with this
I suggest you joining the VB-Audio Discord, there you can get advanced help and you are able to describe your problem in detail.
can i used this to elgato wavelink?
Yes you should be able to route audio either from wavelink to matrix or from matrix to wavelink.
@@NavyTheNerd thank you.☑
i suggest you to using condenser mic..
Clicks on Audio setup guide. Can't hear the guy in the video. So bassy it's hard to understand in some parts. Wonder if this is the guy to be listening to. Actually the guide itself is great. I needed a refresher after being away from content creation for almost a year and the 48khz tip was an instant "ohhhh of course!" moment.
Thanks for the feedback. I will look into dialing back bass in further releases.
PT-BR: pretendia usar o Matrix para agregar mais placas de som para mais saídas e não usar mais Asio4all, mas acho que não entendi direito o software ou como fazer isso. Teria alguma dica?
This is by far the detailed and easy to understand voicemeeter video ive seen. Yes it is a bit long, but i been using VM potato for almost a year and still confuses me. after this vod i totally understand. u earned a sub
For those watching now, it looks like the voicemeter outputs are now individually labeled a1, a2, a3, a4, a5, b1, b2, b3 in system sound settings. Per the example shown in this video, the dedicated mic channel would now be B1, and the Mixed Mic/Audio for obs would be b2.
You are right, in new releases you can enable the VAIO Extension through Menu --> VAIO Extension License. This way you don't need to install additional cables and can use the shipped virtual interfaces directly as input and output on the physical channels in voicemeeter.
Thank you. I was so confused
Thanks a lot for deciphering this great but occult piece of software 🙏🙂 Best video on the subject and a MasterClass !!!
If only someone would make a d a w that allows you to create a new audio track and simply use a virtual cable as the source
Hey @NavyTheNerd How do you get the levels on the buttons like you have them @1:12:25 of the video? Thanks in advance, Great video btw!
You can use field "Title Value" from the Advanced Toggle for that. Just set that to the parameter you wanna query from voicemeeter and it will be used as the button title, e.g. "strip[0].gain" will display the current gain as the title.
@@NavyTheNerd Thankyou
The best ever clearly well explained in greater depth step by step video guide on voice meeter potato without any rush. I just had to subscribe and like, thanks for making this tutorial thumbs up to your video channel. I went ahead and purchased VB-Audio A+B and want to know if possible to use VB-Audio A on the fourth hardware Input channel specifically for my Action! Mirrillis screen recording software and route discord audio through it as well so that when I'm screen recording my gameplay with friends I can also record our voices into the video?
I don't know that software but that should be possible.
Very informative. Thanks man
Thank you for sharing this. I'm stuck with something. I would like to use my external mic for Ms teams calls. I would like the chain to be Mic Audio interface Reaper (for effects) VB audio Ms teams Is that possible?
i dont know if audio effects are applied to the monitor output in reaper, but if so, you can route your audio like this: mic -> matrix -> reaper -> matrix -> teams. but i would strongly discourage you from using any daw not built for that purpose for applying any audio effects in a live environment. if would suggest using a vst host to apply audio effects through vst plugins. for that purpose you can try lighthost or cantabile. or if you just need a baseic noise gate and compressor, maybe give voicemeeter a try.
This guide is perfect, best fucking guide on youtube you deserve so many more subs, keep doing what you're doing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you for an excellent tutorial, I watched all the way through and learned a lot.
Great job Thanks
Finally a detailed video and explanation, not some quick setup guide but actually explaining each tool and button! THANKS!
Would be good if you bit it longer operation, windows audio routing multiple devices or cable routing
Yes, this was primarily intended as a quick demo for advanced usecases for users already familiar with Voiemeeter.
does it support routing presets which you can easily switch within?
yes with the latest version you can store different presets, either for the whole routing grid or specific zones in the grid
@@NavyTheNerd Noice!
I have an issue that my discord sound goes 2x into OBS both audio tracks record discord sound? anyone know how to fix this
That is hard to solve from just your descirption. But i suggest joining the VB-Audio Discord, there are many people that can help you solve your problems and you are able to share screenshots of your setup.
Thank you 🙏
I don't have an audio interface with audio loop back. I guess this will save me from dropping a few hundred to simply just route audio from Cubase to OBS, huh?
If you only wanna route audio from one application to another i would say yes. You could always upgrade to hardware solutions if the virtual software routing is not enough for you.
@@NavyTheNerd this actually seems to be EXACTLY what I'm looking for. I just wanted to make sure it's general purpose and ability for audio loop back. Btw, well done on this video.
This is the best tutorial on YT, thank you Sir. You covered exactly everything what intermediate streamer needs!
Thank you!
I've been trying to figure this out for like, a year. Thank you so much. You helped me understand this on a way different level.
Great to hear!
I have setup everything right and works perffect but whenn i share screen to my friends if i do not disable mi cable a and cable b (cable a send discord to my obs cable b send music to stream) my friends listen double time their voice or music AND that only when i share screen
If you have problems with the setup you could also join the VB-Audio Discord. There are many great people which can help you resolve your problems.
Hat off to you Sir. Your video explains in the simple way possible this complicated routing program. You have clarified so many questions I DIDN'T know I even HAD about this program. Thank you for your hard work putting this video together. Like M4v3r1ckRJ said below, your channel deserves a million subscribers. Again Thank you.
I'm a audiophile and this made everything 1000% much better. Love the video!
Thanyou for this. Incredibly detailed
Glad it was helpful!
@@NavyTheNerd Helpful is an understatement, I was using VM completely wrong. Now I have it working perfectly thanks to your guide.
My VM-streamer is only showing A1 for me. for my sliders. Does not show any other output.
they only show up if you give them a custom name in voicemeeter
@@NavyTheNerd I would double check when I get home, pretty confident I assigned all them a custom name though. Will provide imgur links. Thank you for the response.
Thanx a lot. Very well explained. Helped me a lot!
You are welcome!
Fantastic guide. Thank you very much!
I'm using it with VoiceMeeter and the combination is excellent. I've been using VoiceMeeter for routing and level control in a complex configuration of radios, but there is a signal which contains unrelated information on the two (left and right) channels. I wanted to split these out to two separate mono signals and VoiceMeeter does not do that well. Matrix makes it easy - and I can add some additional gain which I needed as well. A question - is there any API into Matrix? I control my configuration from an external program that calls the VoiceMeeter API - it would be really good to be able to select Matrix patches from that program too! Martin
I think you can send the commands shown in the cli window via vban chat, but i havent tried that.
thanks so much.. it really sorted alot of route issues which is so confusing for noobs like me ... respect the nerd out detalis aswell :)
Thank you so much
WOW, this is best Voicemeter guide I've come across. Thank you for this!!!
I tried your settings on youtube 2k and didn't work for more than 5 m the bitrate dropped down from 13000 to just 165 even i have 4090 and good internet my upload speed like 180+ ,i don't know whats the problem 🫠
Excellent video, will surely experiment.
goat of the year
Thank you very much for your help, your video has been very helpful to me but I think I still have a question: why do certain applications like Discord appear repeatedly in the system, music and communications (virtual inputs) section? I can't catch it. I would also like to understand how to connect this configuration to Adobe Audition to use it in multitrack mode and have my microphone and the Discord audio (the audio of my mates) separately (different tracks) Thanks in advance
since most daws don't allow you to connect more than one audio device i recommend you to use a virtual asio device with multiple channels where you can route different applications to different audio channels of the same asio device. for this purpose i recommend you to check out my vb audio matrix video
OMGosh! I've used Potato for years and I do not have access to most of the audio processing effects that you covered! I must have to download the latest version. This is amazing!
i only get the left signal coming through, do you have a solution?
in matrix you need to route each channel manually. maybe you only have routed your left channel
@@NavyTheNerd thanks, fixed it
Can you use this with voicemeeter? I want to use two ASIO devices in voicemeeter
yes you can use both alongside. just use the voicemeeter asio capabilities
This is one of the best VM videos I've seen. I was using Potato so wrong for the last few years. Thank you! Now, quick question : I see HARDWARE input channels you have : COMP - GATE - DENOISER .. and also 2 PRG buttons and have access to the feature of the compressor for example by right clicking on it. I don't have any of those in Potato. Is it because you're using ASIO and i'm using WDM ? Thanks again!
*UPDATE* : Even though I had the latest version for VMP .. it seems the GUI wasn't showing the options / features I stated above. Re-installed VMP .. rebooted .. and voila! Hope this helps someone else!
glad you could fix the problem
Hey, best guide I've seen. Congratulations, you explain it great and everything was understood. I wanted to ask you about EQ, compression and gate. You comment that there are good videos out there, but I haven't found anything interesting that works with Voicemeeter Potato and these options (mostly focused on the microphone). Do you have any video that you could recommend on this topic? Thanks for your time, very nice work!
basically every tutorial should work. there is nothing special about using the voicemeeter compressor and eq. you just need to learn the basics of what the ratio, attack time and release time do and for the eq you need to understand what a eq does. In the end you need to identify what you want to change in your audio recordings. e.g. if you think your lacking presence then you need to boost higher frequencies a little, but in the end its testing, understanding and a lot of experience of how different frequencies influence sound.
