What a wonderful video-so sincere and insightful! It’s easy to get consumed by everything happening in our lives and around us, causing us to forget to take a moment to breathe and enjoy the present. Life is a journey, not a race, and your beautiful emphasis on this makes it truly special. We look forward to seeing more of your journey in 2025 and discovering what you have to share with the world. We, at Otabushi, will show up!
Congratulations on all the progress you've made on your comic this year! 🎉🎉🎉 Yes! Be proud of yourself for showing up and doing the work. That's amazing! The most important thing is that you started and are nearly done and that you kept going. I love what you said about appreciating where you are now ❤ I needed to hear that. Also congratulations on hitting 500 subs! 💖
💯💯🧡🧡🤩🤩🏆🏆
Thank you for all of the support! ♡ Let me know how you fared in 2024! :)
Congrats on sketching out SO MANY pages!!! That sucks about losing your next chapters' thumbnails.. Maybe think of them as practice? To be honest, initial thumbnails are usually not as good, especially if you drew them months or even a year ago--you've probably improved so much! I'm so happy to have found another fellow comic artist/vlogger and I'm excited to follow your progress. Now I need to make some matcha too!
Oh my, I’m so excited to see you came across my channel. I've been following your journey for a while and really enjoy seeing your comic pages come to life! I always learn so much from your videos! Thank you for your encouraging words :) I completely agree! CH 2 and CH 3 now had a glow up because of that! A cup of matcha is always a good idea! Cheers! 😊 🍵
Aaaahhhh!!!! Your childhood drawings are sooooooo cute❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤🎉😊
Hehe, thanks; they are quite charming, if I may say so myself. :)
Your comic looks amazing! I take pictures of my artwork too just like you do and then I colour/letter my pages digitally. I much prefer to pencil and ink traditionally so it's so nice to see another comic book artist who does the same 😊
@@redheadpinupreader Thank you for sharing your process with me, I agree traditional drawing just hits different :) However; I think for now a combination of digital and traditional media is the way I’ll move forward.

@@DXM_akitsu まだまだです
Lovely to see those pages done ! 🤩
@@otabushi Thanks and thank you for your support! :)
Comic lettering starts at 06:33 :)
There are actually possibilities, to scan your a3 artwork with an a4 scanner, scanning every part of your piece in several files and put them together in photoshop, but i dont know if you have access to a photoshop version, its the option "photomerge" and it works pretty well, I dont know if that helps.... WIsh you so much luck on your comic, finish it.
These tips were very inspiring; thank you. I'm in a similar situation: I usually work as a finance associate in offices, and I draw and write. Sometimes, it's tough to keep motivated, as it's mentally demanding. It's a very nice message to be kind, understanding, and empathetic with myself. Your channel is great, and I'm glad I found it!
Thank you for your kind words. I'm happy to hear you found the video inspiring. That must be a demanding position, I know how you feel. It's at those moments that perseverance comes into play. However, oftentimes we forget to take care of ourselves. With today's hustle culture, I don’t think mental self-care is talked about enough. I'd be happy to hear more about your creative projects. :)
Why is the final art in such a large paper? I'm doing mine in regular 8x11 going to scan it and be able to zoom for quality, I'm new to this
Sounds like a good plan. I use larger paper, because I learned that's what the standard was, but A4 works as well. :)
@inkmatcha Awesome, great content, I just came across your work and I'm learning a lot 🙂👍
@@Csthedirector Happy to hear that :) Good luck with your project!
5 steps process. Thanks 👍🎉
I'm glad you found it helpful!😊
Happy birthday!!! This looks amazing!
Thank you :)
Happy Birthday! Your progress on the manga looks amazing! It’s so interesting to see the manga toolkit. Are you using only physical products to learn, or have you found any helpful video content as well? Wishing you the best of luck on your journey, and I’m looking forward to your next video!
Thank you very much :) As far as the traditional screen tones are concerned, I'm currently using the practice materials from the manga tool kit. However, there are plenty of online videos especially for applying digital ones. I find that , the more I understand techniques in traditional art, the more I can reuse that knowledge for digital art.
As promised here are you quick buttons: Unboxing starts at : 05:20 & Applying Screentones: 08:58 - hope you enjoy :)
I have a comic story.. I don't have money ... I don't know drawing artwork .. my question is...If you release a comic book on your own, will you get the money back?
Hello, thank you for your question. I never published a comic, so I can't really answer that question. However, what I can say, is that I'm not doing this for the money. Nor do I think most artists do. Start with the skills you have and slowly work up to the level you'd like to be on. Hope this helps :)
I love your upright light box! Better for posture and the back. I haven't seen one like that.
Oh, it's from Amazon, Light Pad A3 size from Artdot. It just came with the stand, but it's unstable in that position. I use it like that only for initial panel lines. Unfortunately, I do the rest bent over the desk like a gremlin. 😅
Thank you for sharing your process of thumbnailing. Is there a reason you use the non photo blue pencil at this early stage? Will you be scanning them? Just wondering since I'm currently at the thumb nailing stage of my own project. Thanks!
@@kath2142 Thank you for your question :) I struggle with pressing down hard while drawing which is why I tend to do my sketches in photo blue pencil, as I can still go over my messy lines with a darker pencil to define the exact lines I want to use if needed. How is your thumb nailing process coming along? What does your process look like? ☺️
Thx! That's a great idea to begin with the lighter color. My thumbnails are quite messy right now because I'm thinking and revising ideas as I sketch. I think my first "thumbnails" are more like rough draft thumbnails 😅 that I will turn into official thumbnails. It's a long process! :))
@@kath2142 I understand the important part is that the process works for you. :) I go through several steps before the final drawing as well. Thumbnails are a rough concept, and then I redraw everything on the A3 papers, where I sometimes refine the sketch further before going in with the ink. What is your comic about? I'd love to hear more :)
➡ You can skip the update here: 04:19 :) What does your thumbnailing process look like? Share it with me down in the comments!
thanks for sharing your thoughts and the book tips! I think lots of people can relate to your story, despite all its seriousness though you managed to keep the cozy levels up high, so this was not just insightful but also kinda soothing. Best wishes! also whats up with the sound of crickets chirping being so comforting
Thank you for your encouraging words. I'm glad to hear you found the video soothing :) I think the sound belongs to summer cicadas, during warm summer days. They can get really loud, but remind me of my childhood.
Respectfully, your work station seems to be a bit cluttered. Free up some space. :)
Uh apologies 😅 It’s an organised mess I promise.
that's most artist 😂
Can we all take a moment and assimilate that there are 36 pages in chapter one? 🤯 Once you begin, there are no mistakes or bad choices; it's simply part of the learning process. 😌 👏👏👏
Hehe thanks :) Perks of having a passion project 😅
➡ You can skip the update here: 03:09 ;)
Did you make any of these art misatkes? :)
just discovered your channel . love your drawings , really great artist.
Thank you for your kind words. I'm glad you like my channel. I'm still not where I would like to be with my skills, but I'm slowly improving. :) Are you making a comic of your own?
I just discovered your channel! I love your filming style, and I'm always excited to find another traditional comic artist ❤️
Thank you for your kind words. I was just visiting your channel, your comic looks really cool! I'll have to check it out. :)
I feel the exact same way about AI too. It's ruining everything. It's so disheartening. Sometimes I feel 'should I even bother pursuing art anymore?' My hope is that AI will eventually fade away like VR and NFTs. They keep trying to push AI but hopefully it will backfire because the quality of the images being generated look like crap. I'm still going to continue making art because it makes me happy. And you should too. Keep doing the things that bring you joy and peace 💛
Thank you for your encouraging words! Indeed, AI is now integrated in so many things, but it's actually wrong to call it intelligence in the first place. So much of the surrounding semantics creates a discord that does not reflect the reality of what it actually is and does. However, much like you, I found my inner clarity on why I do the things I do. :) I wish you a lot of success in your creative endeavours as well! Thank you for sharing your thoughts with me!
I'm planning to turn my novel into a comic too! It's a superhero novel and I've been submitting it to agents/publishers but I think it might work better as a comic book. Love your process and the Final Fantasy X background music! ❤
Thank you for watching my video! :) It's always exiting to meet other fellow writers / illustrators! I think a superhero story fits the comic gerne perfectly! Feel free to share more about it if you'd like. Why did you decide to publish it traditionally?
@@inkmatcha No worries! I love discovering new writers and artists on UA-cam and I love your channel! Yeah I've been writing my superhero series since I was 12 haha. I'm 30 now. I polished up the first book last year and started querying agents last summer. But I'm contemplating rewriting it as a comic book or perhaps self-publishing it. But I'm really leaning towards making it a comic because I've always loved drawing and writing comics.
@@redheadpinupreader Oh, thank you very much :) We are quite similar. I also started when I was a kid and I’ll be turning 30 soon. I took a look at your insta profile, your work looks wonderful. The characters are charming and full of life. If you ask my humble opinion you should totally go for it :) Make it into a comic. I’d love to follow your journey!
I hope you enjoyed my little vlog. Let me know which project are you currently working on? :)
Recognising the relationship between how my body uses energy and how I process information from my surroundings has been crucial for me. These are all excellent tips, thanks for sharing.:-)
Thank you! I'm glad you found them helpful. Also, thank you for sharing your experience. Do you mind elaborating on the ways in which you find the information process from your surroundings impacts you? :)
@@inkmatcha Sure no problems. I identify as an INTJ in the Myers-Briggs type system and as such have found this link useful.
Which time management tips work for you? How do you balance art / creative passions with a full-time job? :)
You will be famous one day
Awesome
I was going through burn out and art block during the same time as you. I also blame AI as the main factor. I ditched digital and went traditional and it helped :) Thanks for sharing your story.
I just took a look at your work, it's wonderful :) Really love your style. I used to work in pain tool sai, when I was younger. It's quite challenging with what is happening in the industry, but I hope you feel better now. Burnout can be a tricky thing, especially when it lasts for longer periods.

Whats up?
A successful read but there is one specific thing to pay attention to which are the topics you are interested in and focus on. For example, if you are a philosophy and history geek, Will Durant's Encyclopedia of Civilization is very good, or if you are particularly interested in philosophy, for example, Kierkegaard's books, Nietzsche's books, Bertrand Russell Deckard's books. Books and Kant's books are not bad
Yr recommendations are really awesome
The easiest way to succeed in any field is to work on it consistantly, and consistancy is the key to success. I experienced my self. By the way, thanks for the uploads , a fellow creator,,
Hon madame better list in description with authors it would easier
Thank you for pointing it out. The list is on the way. :)
