This was the longest part they used as a promo when it was first broadcast on American network TV. The submarine crashing through the ice and Russian paratroopers landing. The MIG sequence was what caught your attention. People were just mesmerized with engine sound and afterburners glowing. The part where the sun rays blast over the cockpits was considered amazing at the time. Although they looked a little choppy when the entire formation moved. The front and rear shots looked impressive for models in 1968.

There is one of the actual MiG-21 models, used in the movie, at the San Diego Air and Space Museum. I can't tell the scale of the model, however, it looks like the pilot is a G.I. Joe figure. Not the puny ones from nowadays, but, a G.I. Joe from the '60s. Cool to see that display from the movie.

I think that these aircraft were supposed to be Fishbeds (MiG-21), but the art department didn't bother to get a copy of Jane's "All the World's Aircraft" and gave them the empennage of an A-4 Skyhawk
