Abarth 124 Spider Launch Edition - Stock Exhaust vs. Record Monza Exhaust
A quick video comparing the sound of the stock (Australia) exhaust with the Record Monza exhaust. Unfortunately this had to be done early in the morning and therefore I had to show my neighbours a little bit of respect with the sound. It follows that there is only a limited sample of each system.

DISABLED vs ENABLED "enhanced" engine sound in Kia Cerato / Forte / K3

A comparison between having the "enhanced" engine sound enabled and disabled in the Kia Cerato / Forte / K3 GT
DISABLE the FAKE engine sound in KIA Cerato / Forte / K3
Переглядів 33 тис.4 роки тому
Like many cars, the Kia Cerato / Forte / K3 (depending on where you are) has "fake" or "enhanced" engine sound which is piped into the cabin through the cars speakers. This video shows you how to disable that sound by unpluging the microphone from inside the engine bay. Big thanks to TV Chatto TV (ua-cam.com/video/Z5MaLaCvo0Y/v-deo.html) which originally (so far as I can tell) demonstrated this...
but, why??
Fantastic comparison! I bought a red 124 about 6 weeks ago as well 45kms, loving it. No Monza though, so that’s a shame… hard to find one
Short ahh gear changes why even make the video
Did it today…thank you! Its so much quieter and better!
Can anyone confirm if this is in the SELTOS GT as well?
I can't confirm, but I'd assume its similar for similar year models!
@gttd5159 it sounds like this doesn't work on the 2022 to 2024 models now? Shame, I was planing on doing this to a 2024
So what sound does this enhance, exactly? I've read its only the intake, I've also read its the exhaust note in sport mode (though I've been told my 2021 Forte GT also has active exhaust, so idk about that). If it's just the intake sounds, I'd feel much better about it all lol
It's just a microphone sitting above the engine bay, so assume all that is happening is that the general sounds within the engine bay are being amplified, with whatever sounds are loudest at the position of the microphone being loudest inside the cabin. I don't think it is specifically picking up any given sound.
How did you deseable and enable it?
There is another video on my channel with instructions! Hope it helps!
Is the microphone in Optima in the same place?
I'm not sure, but if you find out please let me know!
20:18 I found that that the big plastic cover has clips underneath all along the bottom edge of the windshield. To remove without damaging any clips, after slightly lifting up the front of the plastic cover you must pull it forward to disengage the windshield clips.
Good tip.
These plastic clips are so cheap lol. When I unplugged the mic, my car was brand new, and 4/4 clips broke. Every single one lol
Yeah they are tricky! Luckily you can buy new ones online very cheaply.
super easy, super simple! thanks! kia should really include a software switch so we can turn it off without needing to go through this
I totally agree about the software switch. It's a shame they didn't include one.
why disable it?
I recently took my 2022 gt in for first safety check and told KIA I hated the fake cabin noise and they had no idea what I was taking about lol idiots
Ty for this Bro
Same
Audio comes out of a SPEAKER. not a microphone. Just FYI.
Yes, but this is a video about removing the *microphone* that picks up the engine sound. The sound is then played through the *speakers* inside the car.
@@gttd5159 That didn’t change anything for me. I did everything said and then it still has the noise playing.
@@MagicalMarioBros 2022-2024 model years don't use a microphone but programmed software to play noises, so this only works for the 2021 and earlier model years
What year kia cerato has these?
This was in a 2020 model.
Awesome vid mate, very helpful 👍 Did you end up getting an aftermarket exhaust?
Yes, xforce varex.
@@gttd5159 that’s what I’m looking at. What’s your thoughts on it?
Is this the same for the 2022 model year?
It is not. Just tried. I’m installing subs on a customers car, 2022 Forte, went to look for this microphone, it’s been moved somewhere. I will update this comment if I find where it’s new location is Update: The radio has lines of code that play noise through the rear speakers, it’s not a microphone on the 2022 models. If installing subwoofers, tap into the front speaker leads either at the amp (if equipped) or at the back of the radio if no factory amp is present in the right rear quarter panel in the trunk
@@ethanf.8992 Thank you. So how can I remove it on a 22 year model?
why disabling it will take the fun out of the car
Okay so just yo be clear; is it a microphone that picks up engine noise and plays it through the speakers, or, is that device itself a speaker that plays a prerecorded note?
It's for interior sound. It's not a speaker that plays a sound. Tge noise is just heard inside. It's a microphone
Isn't there just a fuse you can remove for the fake sound instead of going through all this?
yes but it messes with heated /cooling seats
@@EaglesXsandOs Thank you. I don't have heated/cooled seats. Does that mean I should be ok?
Wtf
I use my GT 1.6t for uber and customers love the fake exhaust sound. They don't even know.
Thanks for video. How do you turn off and on the sound?
You can’t turn it on and off but you can unplug the microphone as showed in a previous video.
There is another video on my channel that shows how to disable the microphone. Hope that helps!
Thanks for this tutorial. I will do it to my new proceed gt.
Just look through the grill and pop off the connector with a pocket screw driver just did mine
@@alaskanman1234567891 can you hear a difference?
@@pippifpv Yeah you can hear the turbo more especially in sport mode instead of a throaty intake noise
A 15 minute fix and totally reversible. Car much quieter inside when accelerating and the exhaust can now be heard. Why Kia would want to increase interior noise is beyond me...
Can't tell the difference. But. I would stop or quietened down your background music. U don't need it and it's annoying 🤔
Why would you want a fake engine noise ?. I'm in Australia this car is called a CERATO . Mine is the basic model and quiet.. So are you talking about a SPORTS MODEL ??
they talk about GT model in aus which is 1.6 TURBO
Thanks bro!
Isn’t this for noise cancellation? Hyundai’s World’s First Road-Noise Active Noise Control, RANC
Is this feature there to cancel cabin noise? Can this feature be controlled in the Dealer or Engineering menus?
This removes in microphone enhanced sound within the cabin, As of now you can't control if it's on or not through the software, nor the dealership. Hence why the creator of this video is just unplugging it. (I have one)
The 'normal' sport mode sounds good though. And a lightly grumbling exhaust will make it even better
Don’t be exhaust on these straight rice
@Paladin English, do you speak it?
This sort of fiddling with fake character is pretty common now. The Germans have been doing it for ages. I tend to question it's validity though and I definitely think on this particular type car that the 'enhanced' sport mode sound is ridiculously overdone and cartoonish in the extreme. Like a four year old boy making car noises with his mouth
calm down bruh...... its not even that serious.🤣 This "ENHANCED" sport mode in this car is not even as bad as most other cars with this feature. There are worse.🤷♂
I'm 34 and I still make car noises with my mouth.
@@Burgher1605 hahaha lol That's hilarious
No l e encontró la diferencia
What is this new devilry?
I would have liked to hear it in the car with a long cable so we can see the difference in what it does
Has the droning sound at high speeds reduced after removing the sound generator?
It doesn’t drone at high speeds only once you’re over 4,000 you can actually hear the ‘fake’ noise
A lot of the droning sound comes from the tyre / road surface combo. I recent,y drive my Cerato GT Hatch to Adelaide from Geelong, taking a route through the Western District and S.A. Limestone Coast district, rather than going straight up the Western Highway/ Dukes Hwy. On roads with a corse surface, which are common in S.A., the droning was quite evident at cruise speeds of 100-110 km/h.
What the Cerato really needs is a bit more sound proofing put in at the factory. Like the old Toyota Celica’s, the monocoque body construction of both acts a bit like the interior of a drum and echoes any sound resonance.
More Cerato GT modding vids please!
Can't believe this is on the Cerato/K3
Based on this video, sounds like you lose that sudden and obvious rumbling sound that’s made in sport mode. But I actually don’t mind the “enhanced” sound, especially since I’m not gonna mod mine.
I literally cannot tell the difference
You definitely do sitting in the car. Night and day. I'm going to say this was just a bad microphone for the test.
Slightly more deep "growl" with the fake... Ahem, enhanced sound. I personally like it. It's not obvious, a subtle low frequency enhancement.
Do you think this might avoid warranty?
No, but I can't be sure.
If you live in the US, absolutely not. A dealer or manufacturer can't take away warranty. Over here, the dealer would have to prove that the modification is what caused the fault in question. If they have solid evidence that it was the cause, they can turn down that particular job. Example: pulling the plug on this microphone will in no way affect any power train or body work under warranty. Electrical could be different. The system may be expecting a certain loss of energy when the speaker is supposed to be activated. Depending on the cars electrical system, an electrical fire could be blamed on the couplers disconnection This example is 100% hypothetical. It may affect absolutely nothing.
@@IchibunslLol, of course a manufacturer can void the warranty if someone makes significant mods to a NEW CAR. And they should. Being in the US has nothing to do with it.
Absolutely brilliant and super easy to understand, you're a natural! Thanks so much.
Awesome vid. Thanks for the comparisons! I think I like the natural sound in sports mode than the enhanced sound. How do you feel about it?
Me too, but in planning to put a more lively exhaust on it. Nothing crazy, but a bit more character. I think it's going to be great once I do that.
@@gttd5159 so did that exhaust happen?
@@gttd5159Waiting. lol
Thanks for this. Just a tip. For those with small hands you can prise up the leading edge of the plastic piece after removal of the four clips to disconnect the wire. Saves removing the wipers.
Great tip!
Just look through the grill and pop off the connector with a pocket screw driver
Hey thanks for uploading this! I've been debating about the Forte GT with the GT2 package, the Forte EX, and a Mazda3 sedan. Assuming you own/drive the car in the video, how do you like it? I was a little bummed to find out there was a fake engine noise on these cars, but knowing I can disengage it if I wanted to is good to know. I mean for a sub $25,000 it's not a bad deal for what you're getting.
The reality is most new 'sports' cars have this feature built in to some degree. I upload a before and after video soon - I need to re-record the after part. To answer you're question, I prefer it off. In sports mode, there is no question. The fake sound was pretty laughable. In the other modes, I suspect some people may find it too quiet inside the cabin. Other than the DSG farts, it doesn't sound *that* different to driving a Camry under soft acceleration. I plan on doing some sort of modest modification to the exhaust to make it a little louder.
@@gttd5159 Yea having it on or off doesn't matter too much to me since I'm blasting my music anyways lol Btw, I was actually asking if you like the car itself lol Do you feel like the car was worth the money and do you enjoy driving it? Is it your daily driver or just something you drive on the weekend?
@@encoreblade3523 oh right! Yeah. I've only had it for a week but really enjoying it so far. It's a very good compromise between fun and practicality and great value. I'm going to add a sportier (but not obnoxious) exhaust to this eventually and then I think it will be spot on. I compared the car with Mazda3, I30, Golf and Civic and it seemed to tick more boxes for me. Plus I think it looks great.
Yes!! Get this car, I have it in Gravity Grey Gt with 7 speed Dct I am not trolling stock vs stock it will beat a Honda civic si and there's a youtube video to prove. Even in manual mode the downshifts exhaust noise sounds so good. And you can control the throttle way better in manual. Downshift if from 5th to 3rd and you can feel it ready to kick and sometimes hear the turbo.
And crank it cold start I swear my exhaust is pretty loud not just from this little box. Step on the exhaust and have a friend at the back of car
Yea I would love to see a before and after!
Coming soon!
@GTTD awesome can't wait! two years later 🙃
