There's old ironworkers, and there's bold ironworkers, but there aint no old bold ironworkers. Work smart, work safe and God bless ya. RD ironworker local 25 Detroit. Retired (32 years)
I read the " Destroyer " series of books a long time ago. I do not know if they are still available, but they are far better than this movie.
Single dumbest job in which one can put themselves.
Amazing guys 🙏
These guys are heroes to me.
RIP Fred
It makes me nervous watching this! 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
Balls the size of Volkswagen's....
“If I win the lottery I’d still come back”. That’s something that most Ironworkers feel, it’s an amazing living. Opportunity too see and do things that most don’t, and a damn good wage for doing it. I’ve been a Union IW since the age of 18. I don’t know much of anything else. They say that you’re not supposed to let your job define who you are. I believe I speak for most Ironworkers when I say that WE ARE IRONWORKERS, and we love it. The brotherhood makes it a lifestyle. We may have other hobbies, but none compare to going to work!
i mean i'm 18 and ive been an iron worker for the past 4 months, im leaving to go make more money. i don't really understand the appeal, it's cool it's fun to run the torches and i really liked the connecting and welding up in the air, but really? you don't wanna do anything else? i want way more money and many more experiences than that, i just don't see how that fulfills someone for life

This is what spider man gotta see everyday in New York if you think about it.
tough guy aye?
I certainly have a lot of respect for these guys. I don't see how they can ever get used to the heights. Fear is a terrible feeling, and yet these guys over come it. My hat goes off to them!
I dont think there fear factor is very high.
that's reasonable $32.20 an hour to be in the air!
they make wayyyy more now a days
That was late 90's wages
If I made the cash they make, fear would blow away with the wind.
In Europe they don't have iron workers free walking at height..... Health and safety are very strict.... And they have very few deaths and injuries. A job is not worth your life.
No F'in way!
It's very true what this connector says if you lose focus you may lose everything God bless brother live high and be free!!!
The biggest balls in construction! All us other tradesmen usually give these guys much respect!
Worked with a fellow ironworker from the islands... He said who's dumber, the people who work in the building... Or the people who put them up?? Something to think about... If you want to be tough you better be dumb!!
This is male privlige at its finest this is why there is a so called wag gap
They don't wear safety equipment fuck meh!!
Their poor wives

L.A. 433 Almost 20yrs
jose reyes I been trying to get in 433 it’s efen hard
Did this for about 2 years at a site of a coal fired electric generating plant outside of Houston, TX. Literally worked my way from the ground up. This video does a good job explaining the mindset needed to walk the high iron. For me, relaxed on the drive up to the site. But everyone got quiet when we pulled into the dirt parking area. I would think to my self "You have a 50/50 chance of living today". It helped me stay focused, yet relaxed at the same time. You could be walking a beam, kinda miss a step, but keep on going like you were walking on a sidewalk. Other days, you stop, look down, say "oh shit", then crawl for a bit. Climb the stairs to the turbine deck, get you tools out of the gang box, and off you go. But even the best have days where something is not right. They get their stuff, and after a little while, come back, put their stuff back in the gang box, and go home. And on one says a word. No one. Better to be focused than distracted. As far as falling. No one wants to fall, but if you do, hopefully you are far enough up that you break your neck and die instantly. Beats living with a mangled body the rest of your life.
Proud to be a retired union ironworker. Best job in the world.
Awesome, I'm a proud iw out of central pa for 21year 's
LOL at Denny checking out Colin's shave haha 1:45
The good old days , modern construction sites , are so infested with rules , regulations and glowing workwear. That all the fun has been rung out of it by stuffy nosed bureaucrats and lawyers.Any protests are immediately stymied with the threat of fines for perceived unsafe work practices , that 20 yrs earlier where perfectly acceptable.Plus all the extra construction costs related to compliance with a never ending list of BS.
Unfortunate how the clowns have infested the business, everything that was absolutely expected of you 30 years ago is all in safety sallies court now and if she doesn't like it then well ya gotta listen to some hairdresser tell you a better more safe looking way ...safety Was always self regulating now it's millions dollars industry itself and the hazards are still there
So true , the increasing role of females in positions of high power is only worsening the situation. As they virtue signal , by introducing more regulation to control male Behavior .
@@glenmccarthy8482 for all the rules yer pretty much doing something wrong all shift everyshift,And use that to mess with any one they don't like, don't want around ,turn the blinders on the rest of the time, the petty police, the firing squad, the new century is way backwards, the average fatalities nationwide barely budges from 1 every 3 days ,the liabilities are insane for foreman and operaters, mind you rare to have no mind incidents but Mr Murphy has ways of showing up at just the right times...
1000% correct . The petty tyrants have taken control. And any insubordination will be punished.Reminds me of the old adage '' treat the children like adults, and adults like children''
Agreed, now if you’re caught not tied off even in a fucking boom lift with handrails you get fired... It definitely takes the fun out of Ironworking when you can only walk a few feet then you have to unhook and hook back over and over instead of just walking like the old timers did
