How To Dye Traps | Easiest Way To Protect Your Traps | Trap Maintenance
In this video, team member Cory Ashbaugh shows how he chose to dye/paint his predator traps after the trapping season had ended. Trap maintenance is a crucial part to successful trapping. This can make your traps work more efficiently and last much longer! If taken care of properly, they will last forever.
Cory treated the traps with flat rust oleum paint and acetone. This is very similar to the “speed dip” method most every trapper has heard of. The paint acts like the speed dip to coat and protect the trap. The acetone acts as the gasoline which just thins the paint to make the process easier. Using a 1:1 ratio of paint to acetone seemed to be about the perfect combination! This method was extremely effective and we look forward to putting its durability to the test next trapping season.
Feel free to offer up any questions and/or suggestions y’all may have! We appreciate y’all watching and good luck on your trap lines!

After a few misses and several missed opportunities he was finally able to seal the ...

    Is that blue bag u used super essential or could I just use the other 3 and lucky buck. Why is the 18.5P bag so dang expensive compared to the others?

    • @fatalfunneloutdoors1632
      @fatalfunneloutdoors1632 8 місяців тому

      Sorry brother just now seeing this! The blue bag is 16-8 calf starter mineral. I personally believe it’s better than any of the other ingredients only because it has more kinds of and higher percentages of minerals in it versus the regular trace mineral bag. And in regards to the 18.5P that’s what we call Di-Cal which means dicalcium phosphate. Pretty much just a full bag of nothing but pure calcium and pure phosphate that’s why it cost so much! Sorry for the late response, hope this helps!

    • @fatalfunneloutdoors1632
      @fatalfunneloutdoors1632 2 роки тому

      Hey brother, we too used lucky buck by itself for a long time! It worked great at attracting and seemed to have quality results but as much as we refresh our mineral holes we needed a little more. It got expensive buying lucky buck every few weeks when we would refresh the mineral. That’s why we started mixing our own in bulk and just adding lucky buck to it. If you read the ingredients on some of the mineral especially the 16:8, they have SO MUCH more in them than your normal trace mineral block or bag of 365. And there are higher concentrates of all these minerals in it as well. I don’t guess we have any statistical data proof because on small parcels of land like we hunt, we don’t find sheds like we want to but we’ve got to believe it has some benefit. The deer Travis shot last season scored 166” and we had trail camera pictures of him the 2 years prior and by our judgment he easily put on 20”-25” the first year we started our mineral and another 15”-20” the year leading up to him being shot. Like I say, no sheds for proof but plenty of trail camera pictures to confirm! Thanks for watching brother, give that mix a try.
