ua-cam.com/video/NyeSm84IrnY/v-deo.html

Bo-hi or unfullered shinogi?

Thank you for the video. Is the high tone of the hammered steel making an effect on the material (high frequency vibes ?) Strange question, I know but I am musician and piano tuner ;)
I have read that the regular rythm and the regular force that hit the hot steel that matter, and that produce the regular (if not same) quality of the knives of each master.

I have been making Japanese style swords for 30 years mainly Tanto. I made my own tamahagane in a small Tatara furnace which is hyperutechtide steel and is around 2% carbon this high carbon content is necessary due to the loss of carbon in the subsequent folding and forging of the billet, when the metal is welded in the forge the carbon (martenzite, troostite and pearlite) molecules move to the hottest part the site of the weld appears as a layer of high carbon steel hence the appearance of
dork's
It is impossible for machine to adjust the balde fine. skill of Japanese swords-smith is better than any machine.
wonderful vid thx for that =)
(jidaishword) well this gotta be probably some Jewish "Japanese knifes" i guess ^^
thier swords are so special they even wear traditional japanese clothing while they make them!
You get a lot of work done in 6 minutes!
@1metalnation 1000 folds is not true. A nihonto has 5 to a maximum of 15 folds, wich does yield 32 to 32.000 layers . This is not damascus steel, you dont fold two types of steel together. A shinken is made bij folding just one piece of tamahagane to even out the carbon content and make the metal more uniform and workable. They dont use flux. The two different types of steel (harder/softer) are fused together only after the folding to make the hard edge and the softer flexible back.
@hawkdlb06 this is a vegetable knife. it appears "weak" durng the shearing process because it is in a fully annealed state, namely as soft as steel can get , precisely so that it can be cut and ground easily. after the heat-treating process, it will become very hard.
i hope thats not a really good japanese knife for like sushi because that is some weak metal
original model for kitchen
the names that are used in this are just a fancy way of saying damascus steel, Im an apprentice to a blacksmith and the recipe is just layering high and low carbon steel with flux in between, get the steel to forging temp and then hammer them together, until it is all one solid piece, put on another layer of flux, fold and hammer weld, do it over and over again to get a piece of steel with an Rc of 50 or more, but at the same time be very flexible, takes forever, usually around 1000 folds
yes it is three sort of steel laminated
yes itis three sort of steel laminated
I am sorry that usualy Tamhagane is made by some black-smiths together. The method of making is secret. And it is used for themselves. So it is diffcult for public to get it.
