A Black woman's natural afro hair, locs, braids, twists, wash n go's and more vs corporate America. Why is it so tough for black women to gain employment, gain promotions, and more when simply choosing not to straighten their hair or wear a wig/sew in?

Honestly, LinkedIn and Flexjobs are no better. When you see a job on any board, it is best to go to the company's site directly and apply there. I promise you that your conversion rates from application to interview will increase.

I think it depends on your environment. I’ve been to 4 states but lived in 5 and what I realized is most of the northern states aren’t as judgmental with hair as southern states. I live in Oregon but am from Georgia, I’m more accepted where I am with my natural hair than I was in my own state. I also think our own play a role. A lot of our own are much harsher on us to look a certain way instead of teaching us how to appreciate what we have and make use of it. Just my perspective, yours may be different.
I don’t think it’s necessarily the hair, but I’d gamble it was more the attitude that was a turn off for corporate America
I don’t understand
I have 3 c hair. I only had issues with it in the 90s where everyone wanted us to relax. Now, we all have freedom of choice. I work in a hospital. And noone has issues with black hair. Dermatology though, those ladies all have the healthiest natural hair in my opinion. But its because the medical field knows what to do with growth that doesn't involve products. It mostly internal. Edit: you would lose a lawsuit if you tried to sued a hospital with those beads though in a hospital setting. Those accessories are a health danger to you and others. But I think you know that.
@@charminglady2011 I think the medical field would have a tough time hiring if not accepting of Afro hairstyles. For other work fields that aren’t as competitive and also smaller businesses I’ve seen the issue come up more often.
I'm sorry, but I'm natural for almost 20 years, but the first lady, her hair, isn't just about natural hair. I know a lot of job spaces where this look would not fly.
I'm sugar-free all of October No sweets, cookies, cakes, sodas, etc Next month it's Sugar AND bread. (Until Thanksgiving🤫)
Nice! That’s so healthy ☺️
I am African-American, but I live in Japan and I have an office job here in Tokyo. In my job, they actually really love my hair. They’re always so surprised when I come in with a new style after wash day. All the executives always complement my hair when they see me. I usually wear my hair in a wash n go, and sometimes if I wanna be a little fancy, I just twist my bangs in the front and that’s how I wear my hair to work. I’ve also done a working holiday in South Korea and they never had a problem with my hair there either. I think this is a problem that is specific to America the Japanese people that I meet always describe my hair as a natural perm..
@@MykahCroom I have found that other cultures outside of the USA has more fascination with hair styles especially in Japan. I’ve seen multiple videos about Japanese in awe of black hair with positive reactions.

This is so true. Not a great site and very poor matches / results.
Start sending recap emails. Anytime some one comments on your hair send a recap email with them and HR immediately afterwards. In my state we have the crown act, but if your state doesn’t have it the problem will resolve themselves, because HR will not let the company loose money.
Fixing your face - insulting.
Yes, I agree.
To be very honest, I like natural hair and I like straight hair and I like weave I like everything as long as it looks good and not damaging to the hair
@@GabrielleIvie That’s how I feel. With my hair I like health and ease of managing on a day to day. Of course I want the style to fit me and look great as well.
I see her point, but her argument wouldn’t work working at a psych ward or a prison because the hair accessories in her hair can fall off and be used as a weapon by one of the patients or an inmate working anywhere else OK she has a argument just not at those two places
Or in radiology where it could become dangerous for everyone.
@@GabrielleIvie Great point. I didn’t think of that. But of course that would be a no hair accessories policy for everyone not just black women and I would understand it.
I’m black, but if had course or 4c hair I would love to wear an Afro and shaped it. Your hair is gorgeous.
I just had my first DevaCut and I love it! I have a thick curly wavy fro. I also just had a job interview and killed it. I was made an offer the next day. I say come to the interview in your coils and braids show up as your true authentic self so you never have to worry about hiding your crown. I also would like to say in job fields where employers are in desperate need to hire they are more likely to overlook the petty stuff.
@@dee1360 love this!
I've worked in a corporate setting in the Appalachians for 18 years and have no issues wearing my natural hair. I've had curls, twists, braids, locs. I'm grateful to work for a company that doesn't care about how black women wear their hair.
@@shanchan8247 I’m so glad to hear this. ☺️ You can comfortably work without any issues due to your hairstyle. That’s wonderful.
@shanchane257. I might have something to do with the crown act law that's has been passed.
12:42 She's GORGEOUS 🥰 I, too, have type 4Z♾️Alpha Omega hair. And she's absolutely correct about black women's response to hair textures like ours. Y'all prefer the so-called exoticals and rely too heavily on wigs, weaves and sew-ins and police those of us who love our final form. Men reading this thinking it's just women, no. You do the same damn thing too.
@@edunlap6594 You really just said 4Z infinity alpha omega hair? I have never heard that before. Idk why that made me laugh. 🤣 But yes, I do get your point. We have to love our own hair naturally. I’m on that journey myself with over reliance on straightening my hair.
15:47 - this is the ultimate point 😅 Do YOU like your hair texture?
15:47 - this is the ultimate point 😅 Do YOU like your hair texture?
11:25 - good point about how texturism is worse in the South. People are less anal about kinky textures in the more liberal areas of the USA.

I wear my hair naturally Usually I cover my crown but I've worn all kinds of styles.
@@wellnesswithfrugalmama I honestly think this is the best. As we all just start wearing the natural looks more others will learn to appreciate it.
Maybe that's why I'm close to the bottom of the echelon...nah, that's mostly on me hahaha
@@wellnesswithfrugalmama Ah no! I don’t even want to climb the corporate ladder anymore. Just want to enough money to do whatever work I enjoy and have great experiences. But there is data saying it’s much tougher just from your hairstyle. 🤦🏾♀️
It will Always be this way. Those that own the companies abide by company rules. Build your own company and make your own rules.

I live in a predominantly wyt state and work in a predominantly wy office and nobody has ever tried to 'check' me for my hair. You need to stop trolling bw with your nonsense. I wear my hair with confidence in my office
@@shanchan8247….I absolutely Love natural hair, esp a huge fro, but that’s Your office, but let’s be honest not the situation with Most. Listen… Wht Co, Wht policies. Build your own and there will be no issues…
@@shanchan8247….I love natural hair esp a huge fro, and I’ve been around since the 70’s. That’s your office, and sure with the Crown Act some companies relax policies but Most haven’t. Braids and even a med size fro are seen as unprofessional.
@@shanchan8247 …No disrespect, but that’s Your office, not the policy for Most. I’ve been around since the 70’s and I love natural hair, esp the fro. The Crown Act helped but Companies got around it by making potential employees sign “Company Guidelines.” I know law, and even WP can’t wear colored - blue, clown red, green hair in higher positions. I’ve never seen a CEO of a W co with natural hair- man or woman, yes it’s unfair, and I would love if anyone could wear their hair anyway they prefer but work for someone else, it’s their rules. Hello new to epms❤
Hello 😊 Have you completed any shops yet?
Wishful thinking there.
although linkdln has a lot of jobs showing there, ive heard companies dont really check the applications sent from linkdln tho...is that true? maybe bc the application process is simple on linkdln people apply more causally so companies dont want to check? I often see a job just posted 1 or 2 days and already over 100 applicants. although we can see jobs on linkdln do you think its good to apply there?
Yesss get it friend!
Agree they are! I forgot my info so I contacted them and they started attacking me and calling me a hacker and I told them I don't appreciate the way how you responded me and making all these false claims about me I'll just leave a review on my end on your app and they say go ahead we will just pay Google to remove it and sell your resume. They very unprofessional and pathetic! Zadly D is what they go by.

Its crazy that Im seeing more videos like these after I apply to numerous indeed jobs and get few interviews and never hear back from them. 1 company had virtual calendar to setup 15 min interview. I never heard from them even email the person that reach out. Went to website and they don't have address or phone smh
I hope you will find a job soon. Hearing this type of treatment is not right. A lot of tenured recruitment teams were laid off so many are heavily over worked and that tends to make candidate experience suffer. It's especially tough when applying to small or mid sized companies.
Very helpful. I have recently applied to Nestle and your videos are extremely informative and helpful! Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
This just happened to me but they gave me account info. I fell for it. Called the bank the account was through and told them.
I do not like hearing this at all. Good thing you told the bank. How did they react?
I think employers are cowardly. Im being quiet fired bc I filed a grievance about pay. Everyone in my division has recieved an in crease and title change. My jon changed my titld but didny give me extra money. So I said fuck them, and declined the promotion.
How mych do they pay??
It depends on the location, shop and other details. I normally would get paid between $45 and $65 per shop. There are some that are higher and others that pay lower.
Hey here for it❤
Hey!
