Pull My Finger...
Portugal
Приєднався 10 лип 2022
My name is Joe. I moved to Portugal in May of 2022 from the USA, and want to share my exploratory trips to the cities, towns, villages, places of natural beauty, and historical places of Portugal. I may use humor to lighten things up. To the easy going who could give two squirts, come along for the ride. To those who think Im not their cup of tea, go eat a bifana sandwich. You'll be alright.

The gods came from Brazil .( call COLONY )
Floored mosaic 🤗🌼
First European looters on Asian soil. Followed by other European thieves towards Asia. No wonder they had gold.
Looters? They made business with the asian rulers! And they paid in cash You either don't know what You're talking about, or You are a mean, treacherous person, judging everyone and everything compared to yourself
In the end, is that they free you from Muslims and Cristians, I don't see the word thank you, looters as anyone that put a foot in Asia.
Vasco da Gama get in to maritime route to India because Spice road through deserts is to much expensive, Silk Road to China too. Was a very good planning to trade with East, all progress started from there.
R.I.P Portuguese Monarchy.
1910 was the year when Republican politic came, almost 900 years of Monarchy has his end.
Nice nature walk
Obrigada ~
Nice
Portugal never had problems with hold, when the rest of Europe counted gold in grams, Portugal counted in tons

The church consists of a central nave, two side naves and a transept or transept, creating the image of a cross - Latin cross plan. All the naves are around 20 metres high. The total length is 106 metres, the average width is 22 metres and the width of the transept is 52 metres. As such, this church is one of the largest Cistercian abbeys, with only the now-defunct Vaucelles Abbey (132 metres) being larger. Although Pontigny Abbey, also in France, is two metres longer at 108 metres, it has a narrower transept. The architecture of the church in Alcobaça reflects the Benedictine rule of seeking modesty, humility, isolation from the world and service to God. The Cistercians shared these ideas, ornamenting and building the structure of their churches simply and sparingly. Despite its enormous size, the building only stands out through its necessary structural elements, which are directed towards the sky.
The most remarkable romance in Portuguese history took place in the 14th century. Prince Pedro I of Portugal fell madly in love with Inês de Castro, his wife's lady-in-waiting, with whom he had an arranged marriage. The two lived an intense forbidden romance for a while and Pedro's father, King Afonso IV, was against this relationship. The king went so far as to exile Inês and expel her from court, but after the death of Constança, Pedro's wife, the two felt free to live out their love story, and it is believed that they ended up marrying in secret. For ten years, they lived happily in the old Paço de Santa Clara, next to the monastery located in the city of Coimbra. It was at Quinta das Lágrimas that Inês met her tragic end. The king had Inês murdered, causing revolt and sadness in her son - who never forgot his beloved. After the death of King Afonso IV, Pedro took over the crown and exposed his secret marriage to the court. According to popular belief, he exhumed Inês' body and ordered a funeral procession through the streets of Coimbra with all the honours of the nobility and then crowned her Queen of Portugal, forcing all the members of the court to kiss her hand. Pedro also had two beautifully detailed white stone tombs built in the Monastery of Alcobaça, where today they rest facing each other, so that when they ascend, the first thing they see is each other.
the symbols on the stones are the signatures of the stonemasons who worked the stone. they were paid per stone worked, so their work was recorded to account for the payment.

Óbidos is such a lovely and charming little town. I took Portuguese lessons just outside the main entrance so I got to spend a lot of time exploring within those castelo walls. I hope you got to see it in the daylight too. 😊
Balela is really beautiful! If you have trouble walking, I can understand your concern about adventuring further out near the ruins, but it is breathtaking. I hope you enjoyed your time there!
