Aha! Someone who thinks like me! I love it. I'm in a similar place. I can't afford the fancy festool auto clean dust extractor, so I started trying to figure out a good cheap temporary substitute for my purposes. I'd used my Dyson v11 outsize under extreme abuse during a few years of renovation, and been astounded by how much it would put up with before clogging! And also familiar with how much it struggled with the finest drywall dust. So here's a little protip that works essentially perfectly for everything except sanding drywall... And even then, works surprisingly well for a while... Buy one of the Dyson *Cinetic* models used. They have extra special little cyclones that filter down to much smaller sizes. The channel "vacuum facts" goes into more detail about the kinda special engineering involved (and why they're no longer made). I used it through no less than *FIFTEEN* binfulls of nasty ultrafine dust from sanding drywall, and from using it attached to a drywall cutout saw. For those first fifteen, *zero* problems with suction! It was only when I started doing large area sanding with finer meshes that things started to fail. The difficult part that I've run into now is a few fold, and I hope one of us on the internet can figure out the next step in clever diy dust extraction hacks: 1. The performance of the Dyson cyclones depends highly on the velocity and volume of airflow, so once the post motor hepa filters begin to clog, the performance can snowball in the worsening direction. Eventually it seems the seals on the filters just fail and the vacuum starts spewing ultra fine dust into the room (🤮) 2. There's no prefilter to protect the post motor hepa filters on the Cinetic units, so once the cyclones stop working properly from low flow, the dust goes straight to the post motor filter and plugs it. You can't wash them (I don't think so) so you just have to trash the expensive filter. 3. Between the smallish size of the dyson canister bin, and the difficulty of cleaning fine dust from the shroud, it can be easier than you'd expect to plug it with ultra fine dust Similarly, using a prefiltering cyclone (a nice one from mullet!) is choking flow enough to maybe be a problem in the same way. I suspect it's the length of the hoses and the fittings that's partly responsible! 4. The size of the hoses and fittings on the Dyson vacuums are household sized, so they definitely lose flow and pressure when converting to shop vac sizes, furthering the other problems .... Now as long as Dyson doesn't want to get into the shop vac market, what I'd really kill to see is for someone to figure out a good setup for using a Dyson Cinetic cyclone + bin assembly itself as a first stage for a proper shop vac, just using the shop vac itself as the motor and the final filter. The Dyson could even be a second stage after a mullet cyclone or something like it! Since the Dyson cinetic cyclones are so much better at removing fine and ultrafine dust, it would greatly reduce loading on a proper shop vac hepa filter. Heck, it could even feed into a nice festool with auto clean, since I presume those do eventually load up too? Perhaps someone insane could even reuse the motor assembly with the right ducting to duct that exhaust directly into another shop vac? My fabrication skills are too week and my time too lacking to do it myself in a reliable way that others could use... But it sure seems like it would be a worthwhile hack for people like us!

I've got a problem. Recently (in Mexico, my country) I bought a package of router bits, Trend (brand). The set was 15 with half inch shank, one of the bits came broke, so I have to send it back (Amazon USA), but when I bougt them, the price was acceptable, now the router bits has show two times a different price in less of a month! (expensive). Well, as I need to use my router (an Skill RT1322) the only router bits that I see on Amazon are MNA and/or Skill, available. What can I do, buy one of this brands or try again for the Trend ones? I don't have many knowledge in carpentry, I'm starting. From Mexico, a big hello!

Plenty of folks are setting up shops without a tablesaw at all nowadays. Can't really blame them when it is such a dangerous machine if you don't have a good mentor. Idk if I could live without a tablesaw altogther but I have noticed I'm using my bandsaw more and more for stuff I could use the tablesaw for, just happens to be more convenient and easier for me in a lot of situations, especially if I'm already gonna joint or skip plane or whatever. Nowadays my unisaw is only really used for sleds, jigs and really long rips. And I have thousands of hours on the tablesaw in cabinet shops (not even joking, like 2000hrs last time I calculated it lol). But that's just me, with my machines in my shop doing my projects. Obv everyone has diff needs and what works best for them is different.
