Done with Beta version of Martin ShowDesigner MSD The cube was done in MSD Modeller by using the new subtracting tool. 16 cylinders where subtracted from the cube in a single operation. 32 lights are placed in the middle and tow more to light the cube with patterns. The cube is then animated using a motion platform dynamic object.

    I am trying to record this exact effect on my mtouch onto a fader. Should I be recording as an override? Also what I want is that when I increase the fader the speed increases on the effect. Should I use a q-blender and increase the multiplier? It doesn't seem to work properly like that

    This demonstrates the fact that not only has lighting technology advanced massively (the mac500 was leaps ahead of the 1200) but also that lighting design has too, it might be just the video, but it looks soo wishy-washy and un-co-ordinated compared to lighting shows in modern day large-scale productions.

      Jonathan Cook interesting point of view. I think today's show are more fx generated while this show was more theatrical

      Id love to get some help on how to program more modern looking shows using that kind of early nineties gear... I have multiple 3032`s, a 2032 hd version and a boatload of all the big Martin protocol only stuff. (1220`s, centrepieces, MSRzaps, robocolours, 516 dimmercontrollers and so on...) I`m just getting grip on how everything works, but for live-events you really have to work hard.. you have to change every step, every function, every detail manually. no shape generators or 3d renderings.. Martin really made great stuff back then, the biggest steps forward have (imo) been made in the control interface, not so much in the lighting gear itself.

      I agree. I had a bunch of around 12 Roboscans at one point - some 518's and some 218's (I think!) and they were all controlled with Martin's DMX - and it was annoying. I could never find a DMX converter, so eventually sold them of. Anway, 7/8 years later ive just started buying and snapping up Mac250's, 500's, 550's at pretty low prices, though some units do require repair and this can be stressful. As for wash lights, well I'm just not a fan of a 40kg wash head when I can use much lighter and quieter modern LED fixtures. Anyway, I use software for any complicated lighting control and I wonder if Martin's M-Series software supports their own protocol.

    Totally off topic question, but when using a hanging bar as seen at 1:10. How do you keep it from swinging with the movement of the fixtures?

    • @abecoulter18

      ALT Pro you cant stop it. most people will be watching the show not the lights

    • @carver7585
      @carver7585 8 років тому

      My question was if there any any trick or advice to keeping the bar from swinging with momentum from the moving heads. Seeing as this is a video to show case this lighting fixture, I think it's pretty safe to say people will be looking at it.

    I'm a big fan the 101 and 301, but just don't see the benefit of the novelty effect of this fixture. It's not bad, but just seems like it belongs more in an architect installation than on a stage.
