    One way to unify this. Is understanding the body. We have a physical body. Surrounded by a spiritual body. The spiritual body or subtle body is magnetic in nature. These body’s are not separate. It is truly one body. And a body that must be treated as that. Much of the time issues start in the spiritual body and then manifest into the physical body. If a magnet has a dead zone. That dead zone will manifest in matter. Density. Likewise. A loss of say a leg. Obviously is not a spiritual body issue manifesting in physicality. It would work in reverse. The lost limb would resonate into the spiritual body. In the form of sadness. Despair. Depression. Thoughts.

    Many mental health and spiritual issues are connected. Some of these struggles can be approached by prayer IF one lives in a monastery or has a sophisticated degree of understanding or spiritual formation which impacts health and holiness.. Monastics still might require medication too.

    I'm not sure this was Orthodox. I'm not a cradle Orthodox, but isn't the spirit infinitely more important than the body? I'm surprised the priest did not correct the other man who said they were equal. There are martyrs in the faith. They sacrifice body for spirit and are eternally rewarded for it.

      How could the soul be infinitely more important than the body? Christ's incarnation sanctified our body and the whole creation...otherwise why did He make himself flesh!! He could have chosen an angelic body or any other entity to manifest to us. Moreover, it is orthodox to say that it is with our bodies that we will be raised. The supremacy of the soul over the body is an ancient Greek belief and philosophical construct. Didn't st Paul also say id that our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit? Soma and psyche are equal and tightly interconnected. There is a lot more that the Fathers of the Church taught us on that regard. Greetings in the risen Christ.

      @@mirna4458 thanks for the reply. Awesome. I suppose I have to rethink this. I would agree Christ incarnate and bodily resurrection certainly teaches us not to undermine matter. But is the risen body the same as the one we have now? No. And martyrs give up their bodies for their souls, no? But I will grant you that person we are speaking about different definitions of "body".

    • @adrianskog4117
      @adrianskog4117 Рік тому

      @@mirna4458 I think also that the body it thy temple, there is no reason to chastize oneself for natural things or deny the material part. Overdoing any thing like S.t Anthony got more possesed by demons, because being ascetic is not natural. Cherish soul and body, like we can have an healthy sexuality and also eat well enjoy and nutritious. But we dont want depravity, because that will hurt the body and soul. Look for joy and love I think and not destructive things.

    • @jacfalcon
      @jacfalcon 9 місяців тому

      The soul being more important than the body would be gnosticism. The spirit rules the body, but using which one is more important is like asking if the Father or the Son are more important. The Father guides the Son and the spirit guides the body, but that's not anything to do with importance. Death itself is the unnatural separation of body and spirit, so we don't want to get a head start by separating them by importance.

    Academics who place themselves above God, in the Ecumenical Councils, are theologizing against God. How do you think that is going to work out? The non-Chalcedons have refused to say they are wrong for 1500 years. They want the Orthodox to say they are wrong. The Coptics don't have Theosis, and don't have a theology of Uncreated Light. How can they possibly be Orthodox? The 'confusion' was already solved before the Council of chalcedon St Cyril of Alexandria and ST John of Antioch came to terms that they were using differently terminology in different ways, but were saying the same thing. Then Dioscorus came along after St Cyril passed away, represened a extremist faction of Alexandria - thinks St Cyril was wrong for agreeing with St John, and held a false council. The Fourth Council was done against that and affirmed what St Cyril taught. I will add to this a word from St. Sophrony. I once asked a close spiritual child of his if Father ever said anything about the Non-Chalcedonians? In answer he commented, “Father Sophrony used to say, ‘Unless you believe that Christ is fully God and fully man in the Orthodox sense you cannot experience the Uncreated Light and they [the Non-Chalcedonians] do not have this in their tradition.’” Christology and the concept of salvation go hand-in-hand, so then, we should consider just a few more points. The Oriental Orthodox do not have a theology of the Uncreated Light. Why? Because the experience of It is not in their ascetic tradition. What are the repercussions? What is their view of grace and that of salvation? What do they teach about the essence and energy of God? Again I ask: Pope Shenouda "The term 'Monophysites' used for the believers in the One Nature has been intentionally or unintentionally misinterpreted throughout certain periods of history." In the same book, Shenouda says: "The Virgin did not give birth to a man and God." Patriarch Shenouda III, The Nature of Christ, 1st edition Ottawa 1985 For any Church reconciling, but to do so they must become Orthodox. They must reject miaphysitism and accept Chalcedon as well as the four ecumenical councils that followed it. This is the only true reconciliation, which the Oriental churches seem unwilling to do. The "reconciliation" that most seem to want is a reconciliation in name only, where they pretend that they've changed their minds, or that the whole thing was a big misunderstanding, and continue to teach heresy. God only established One Church, the Orthodox Church.
