    To me looks like you were fighting the way your spindle was wrapped again. You can wrap it to ways I’m not sure how you were doing it this time I just saying something to keep in mind Keep within the bushcraft try a bigger tinder bundle and just put a huge pile of really really small twigs and build up this can work equally as well. Your scraping should have been on top of the tinder bundle

      Definitely was fighting with the wrap! I have to try some different methods, I do think the flat 550 was binding on itself more than the round. Still if there's a bind free wrap, I want to get it! Yeah man, my tinder bundles were sparse.... Should have done better! Rushing a fire definitely lessens the chances for success.       @@Level3Readiness sometimes you have to be careful about blowing on your coals if there’ small and weak you can really affect longevity of the coals if you reverse twist your cords you not sure if you did or not but this can make a difference as well

    Wrap your spindle the other way that way you can bow back and forth scraping near the ground and back towards your hip kinda try wrapping the spindle the other way

    Also tearing your char cloth to expose the frizzy edges helps. Quartz can be hard work being a softer mohs hardness. Also the sharpest edges possible.💥💥💥 good on you for having ago. Persistence.       In my "how to make char cloth" vid I show the exact materials, but just so you know one batch is from an old cotton bathrobe and the other a a100% cotton t shirt. I used the bathrobe cloth in this vid but got a nice spark to catch on the t shirt cloth a few hours ago!

    Looks like a good blade so far the only thing it needs to do is light a fire strike a ferro rod and catch a fish lol. I personally don't carry a knife if it won't throw sparks from a ferro rod those kinds of knives go in a special pile and collect dust.

    may I suggest, first off, don't be stingy with your char cloth, go big, unless you are forced to conserve your resources more is better. Second, hold your tinder bundle in your hands and blow into flame and then place that flaming bundle into your fire-lay, far more efficient and easy to do?

      @@Level3Readiness I have long ago adopted the use of pocket bellows, I love them, very cheap to buy and they are so useful at directing and concentrating your breath exactly where you need it. I add a set to each kit.

      ​@@Level3Readiness , Listen to Dean , he is one of the 3 people I learned Flint and Steel from , I make a Sandwich ! Char clothe on both sides and Flint in the middle so the spark can go on either side , a lot of Char Clothe like a baseball catchers MIT , then I have a Steel gas line about 16 inches long I blow through to get Flame 🔥 , I can start 5 Flint and Steel Fires in 5 Minutes , but I learned from 3 of the best .     This is the one that worries me. Lol I've done 1 match and flint and steel. Never even attempted a bow drill. I'm excited to see what I can do!

      Same here! Be patient for sure! I suggest doing some research on wood, I know good cedar always seemed to work best, though, it let me down on this attempt or more likely, I let it down lol. Have you posted any videos of the first two? Id love to check them out!

Its a challenge indeed, much respect to anyone who tries and hopes for their success, i was bummed to have failed the three attempts but it does fuel my 🔥 to try till it happens, I was very surprised the kit I retrieved didn't give an ember the first try, but that's one thing for certain, there's many unknown variables at play when trying the friction fire. Thanks again!

    Little something I came up with. Cut up some old blue jeans into2-3” squares. While your watching TV or something, just pull all the individual strings apartand stuff em in your tin for cooking char. String char. Is the most desirable char and will capture a spark 🔥 and create heat like non other

      So the level 1 fire challenge was to choose 1 tool ( I was given the challenge of using the freeman guide) and 1 match and striker, no accelerants allowed (fire starters, lighter fuel, etc) personally source and process all natural materials and make a campfire worthy of s'mores, Weiner roast or tea, you decide. Pro tip was to use the fire to make char cloth. Level 2 fire challenge was to use flint and steel and char cloth instead of the match. Also with completed level 1 challenge the option to upgrade the tool that's been chosen. There will be a level 3 fire challenge as well, I don't have details but will soon! Be safe, have fun and Good luck!

    You are having trouble getting your birds nest to catch fire because you put your charcloth in it loosely. The heat does not get trapped and does not build up as much. It is much easier if you hold the birds nest in your hands while blowing and close it around your charcloth.

      Yes that's what I see to remember keep the char cloth in contact with your material and also hold it up slightly higher then your face because fire burns up heat rises

    It's NOT a Bushcraft knife. It's NOT a survival knife. It's NOT a camping knife (like the bigrock)... It's a large game animal processing knife. That's all! It's NOT for cutting wood. It cuts MEAT and Sinew. It's very easy to sharpen. It has a partner called a Caping Knife. It also comes in a Folder Version. It's STILL sold in Walmart.

      Thanks for the comment! You are spot on!!! I appreciate your enthusiasm for the freeman guide, I'm admitting it is very likely suitable for its intended purpose, just curious about its other capabilities and still enjoying the little blade as much as I can. Really looking forward to deer season where I hope it shines! Sometimes the knife you carry is the only knife you have, even in a hunting scenario, so my advice is choose gear carefully and know it capabilities as well as its limitations, check out prt 2 if you haven't already and check out what it was capable of!
