Posted on Oscar Hammerstein II's birthday. I find it strange to think that Hammerstein, whom I associate with the 1950s (though he and Rodgers were just as prolific in the 40s), also wrote Show Boat (1927).

@@lhkim74 They are not just repetitions. You never played the first "house". In my not-so-humble opinion, the piece is clearly (more than) short enough as it is, without any such "cheating". 😁

Hi! Do you use the una corda pedal in the first four measures? I'm having a hard time with the trill!
Hi. I don’t use una corda here. Did you mean the trill in no. 7? It might help to intentionally break the chord a little bit (i.e. melodic note just before or after a trill note) rather than try have them sound simultaneously. Thanks for listening!

Just curious how did you get the left hand octaves so fast do you glissando them or using an alternation of 4 and 5 on the left hand to get it faster
Thank you for listening! I was wondering if anyone would ever ask. It's a bit of both. In general, the bottom notes are fingered 5-4-3 and the top notes are gliss with the side of the thumb with tweaks as needed for black keys.
@@lhkim74 wow the gliss and the alternation that must’ve been a lot of spent time rehearsing that into the fingers pretty elaborate. It’s like the waldstein plus the alternation in one hand. I haven’t heard any other recording able to get that fast just close ones but a lot of tension from the octaves great work!!
@@lhkim74 one more for ya, do you leave out some notes in one of the notes of the octave at times or are you playing everything with the gliss and alternation technique
It’s been a while, but I believe all of the bottom notes (fingered) are there, but on top (gliss) I had to leave out a few.
@@lhkim74 thank you that’s really insightful!! I wanted to really learn this transcription so far ur my favorite! My teacher had a professor named theodors Leschetitzky and I believe he’s pretty well known he once said when playing certain Liszt pieces to refinger and leave out things (pianos back then were lighter action easier to play heavy technique) to be able to play it well and when asked if it was bad to do so he said “let them sue you”

I am having a very hard time playing the series of chords at the end of the intro with two hands. You make it look so easy! Any tips? Would it be acceptable to play all the chords with one hand?
I think it'd be harder to play with one hand! Without knowing what specifically you are having a hard time with, I am not sure what tips I can give. From the video, you might observe that in order to keep the hands from getting in each other's way, I have them as far apart from each other as possible: left hand low and towards me, right hand high and away. Why shred it? That was horribly much too fast. As soon as I heard this I checked whether I had set playback speed to 2, but no.
Published metronome marks by Beethoven's contemporaries, including Czerny who studied with Beethoven when this sonata was composed, put this at 88 to the bar, which is pretty much exactly where I'm at. I'm sorry you didn't like the performance, but this is the speed it was meant to go.
@@lhkim74 Thanks. I did not know that. Still , yours is the very fastest of the many renditions on UA-cam that I have heard, including those by Barenboim, Gould, Lugansky, Pires, Sokolov, Say, and Lisitsa. I think I have heard about 20 renditions on UA-cam alone. It seems that we have trained our ears on much slower renditions.
