Funny how its referred to as Cohen's song although its not only very much a cover of the Buckley version but even Cohen himself said, "I wrote the lyrics but this is Buckley's song". I get you wanna pay Cohen his due, but give Buckley his, Cohen gave him the damn song.
Hello and lovely to meet you Brian. Sincerely, thank you this info. I did not know that and I would agree that he made the song (doubt Leonard gave him the royalty though 😉) Intricacies aside, i would like to know if today is “put people in their place day” as I woke to someone telling me I destroyed the song? Bit violent for a Sunday morning. All I was doing was posting a relatively average version of a magnificent song, because I just had vocal surgery (to fix some of the issues I had in this video) and wanted to just share something with the people who appreciate what I do, even if it’s sub par. Makes me wonder how much hope there is to stop civil wars when we all just wanna prove points and all. I would reply to him but wonder if it will just cause continued war. People forget that there is a human on the other end of comments. I think Thumpers mum got it right - if you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all. Countless renditions of Marianne Faithful tracks seem afflicted with either mimicking for recapturing the feel of the original, or are done with desperately need to maintain their distinct personal sound, making either approach dilute the raw emotional energy that made these recordings legendary. That's why this performancs stands out for being so utterly refreshing by capturing and conveying the song's underlying mood and feeling with such passionate intensity and heart-rending sincerity making the performance such a beautiful experience.
