The parade was a disaster. It was arranged by people completely new to the scene, and resulted in many unnecessary incidents. 🫤 People say the staff was unfriendly, timing bad and everything happened only on the ground level. Ps. I took notice of the fact that the market place near this location was not open during the day of the parade- who designs these things??

This looks like a neighbourhood's Santa Claus parade. It's like they are new to this?! We've been doing them for decades in North America but they are different. Maybe they weren't given more than 10 min to block traffic??!? In North America, in small or big towns, people take more time to wave a lot, interact with the kids and dance with them, throw candy canes at them, the music is loud so everyone can hear it, there are more floats, there is at least one pro band playing, people take more time to walk and not just zoom by fast, they use bells to cheer and create atmosphere, mascots hug the kids, and they never drive Santa that fast (they do it slowly so he can be seen by all the kids), etc. This looked just like my small village's Santa Parade (actually we have more floats than that and our population is 6000 in the whole region). I'm just curious cause I can't picture this being Helsinki's best?

This a actually called a Santa Claus parade. Not a Christmas parade. Never realized someone would need an explanation but after seeing the Spanish comment underneath, I wanted to clarify. It's a family event where people celebrate the arrival of Santa Claus to town. Jesus is technically not born yet so that is not the point. They are also meant to appeal to everyone of every religion who also enjoy the season and winter. Never saw any such parades with religious icons. Those with religious meaning would be present in a Christmas Pageant or a Nativity Scene which are done at the end of December before Xmas. That is where all the religious symbols come out. Santa Claus (St. Nicholas) is supposed to be celebrated on Dec 6 but those parades have moved to earlier in the year nowadays.

Many cities in Europe are completely interchangeable. Stripped of all regional and cultural pecularities, and now just bland, boring provincial hubs. Same shops, same clothes, same beggars and grifters, same grime, even the same protests in the same language (English usually for social media. How dull.
