Remount Horsemanship is owned and run by Richard Schouten and his family out of North Carolina. Richard specializes in putting a solid foundation on horses of any any age, breed or discipline. A foundation is what everything you will ever do is based on and how you fix most “problems” with horses. If a horse can steer off your seat, stop, walk, trot, canter while on a loose rein and still
do what you ask that is a foundation. Trailer loading, farrier prep, beginning sequences for flying lead changes is al foundation work.
In this channel you’ll find everything you need for your horse from starting colts and
Teaching young horses to lead all the way to trailer loading and flying lead changes. It all comes from the basics of horsemanship and we finesse and reinforce as we continued the training.
I also travel the country teaching clinics and offer horsemanship help to all disciplines.

How I Load And Haul Horses
Переглядів 3305 місяців тому
This is how I load and tie my horses. I have a 3 horse LQ trailer. the first stall is a stud stall which has a divider running all the way to the floor. That stud stall usually is filled with feed, hay and supplies for my trips so I generally use only the rear two stalls. If i was loading in a straight load 2 horse id send them in, close the door and then tie IF needed from the windows. I would...

👍
I’m not much of a roper. But it’s nice to have one use to it, especially when your friends are. Thank you for this, I’ll have add this .
You’re very welcome.
What about Horse that throws its head up when just walking or trotting?
Same as this. Hold hands up and squeeze with lower legs until the hirse relaxes down. Make the wrong thing difficult the right thing easy. www.Patreon.com/remounthorsemanship
This is a great tip!
Thank you very much! www.patreon.com/remounthorsemanship
Ok so I have a very sweet mare. But she's one of them that she likes to keep her head up while trotting she's full blood Quarter Horse. I'd really like for her to put her head down while trotting. Would this still be ok for my problem?
@@KHbarrelracing2024 it could certainly work. Also for over 200 videos please check out www.patreon.com/remounthorsemanship
Heres the real tip...dont wrap any sort of rope to your hand, much less s lead rope attached to a horse.
@@jebediahnightlinger6357 you can do that also. There’s always a risk to every thing you do with horses. Every time you step in a stirrup you’re risking a hang up. Every time you ride you’re risking your horse tripping you going over the front and getting hung in the reins or break your back. Getting hung up in your rope coils. The real tip is…Accept your level of risk and risk management and you do you.
👏👏👏
I really appreciate your video and totally agree you on so many points -- not hard tying a horse in a trailer, using whatever halter you want 😂, sending the horse in (not leading him in), tying thru a window rather than going into the stall. But I think that for much of the time you are physically in the trailer in this video (ex @1:30), you are in a pretty vulnerable position -- JMO. If that grey horse panicked over something and tried to back out, it would happen fast and you'd get slammed into the divider and could get stepped on. Obviously whatever mishap you experienced trailering, it wasn't that scenario. 🙂 I have to say I don't understand why anyone would design a trailer that doesn't open all the way across the back. Maybe the tack area is hinged on the left and can rotate out of the way so the back is fully open. But I would never set foot in a trailer like that 😂. Another trainer I like a lot (Ryan Rose) has the same setup. I don't get it. But I like your attitude and will check out over videos. Thanks so much.
Oh sure that’s what makes loading so dynamic and not every fix fits all. It’s ever changing and fluid. I’ve had horses where I load them anyway I can then shut the door and figure the rest out as we go. It takes a lot of trust and time for me to get in with them. There is not a perfect trailer that I’ve seen but I guess the best and safest for kinda all situations would be a stock trailer with a slam gate divider. Load em up and close the slam gate. Like every thing do what’s best for you and your horses in the situation you’re in and stay as safe as you can. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Very nice Richard.
Thank you very much.
Wise advice. On the flipside, if you want the loop to tighten when the rope is pulled, do exactly as in the video. Never with your hand in it though!
My horse moves around a lot when she's tied to her stall. She is starting to stand a little better, but the second she sees me with the saddle pad or saddle she gets very antsy and sometimes rears up. Any pointers?
Sounds like your horse is anxious to begin with. I’d start with some relaxation work first and getting her relaxed. Please visit www.patreon.com/remounthorsemanship for many many more videos. And I’d focus especially on the colt starting videos.
I’ve found the more a young horse is introduced too … the better they do under saddle anywhere.
💯 👌
Great content, feel and timing! I find that often the case with head lifting horses is the lack of muscles for self carriage.
Thank you I’m glad you liked it! If you’d like more videos on training please visit www.patreon.com/remounthorsemanship
👍👍
Thank you from Malaysia.. as a beginner, this is very helpful..

My school horse has this same problem and my coach was telling me to do this exact thing. However, when I pushed his hindquarters to the right he turned all the way around. 😂 I was not successful this morning. We do great on the left lead, though! 😊. I’m glad I got to see what it should look like. I hope I can get it next week!!
Keep on trying you’ll get it.
Very nice! What a great educational video!
Thank you.
your awesome dude .....yooooo cowboys dont forget LIKE this stuff its good
I appreciate that.
That's what I use my handy Leatherman
That’s great.
I am over seventy and when i was a teen i had a beautiful horse who was wild when i got him. I finally was able to get him to let me ride him and he became my best friend. He would do anything i asked and i miss him so much .
Can we ride with you? Plz❤ love horses
I need to teach my young horse how to do this. My biggest worry/fear is that she'll go in then try to turn around and slip. Is it best to teach this in the last stall of a slant load so they can't turn around? Or at least you would hope they wouldn't try it in that small of a space...
Well it kinda depends, like everything does. If its a weaning or yearling ill load them up with the last divider open so they have plenty or room to load and turn around if they want to at first. That way they don't get stuck or feel trapped. For adults ill generally load in the last stall and if they want to turn around ill slip my flag in the trail up by their nose to keep them from turning around (hopefully) On our www.patreon.com/remounthorsemanship site I have lots of trailer loading videos.
Great sound advice! To me, the hardest part of teaching your horse something on the trail isn’t the teaching of the horse but the other people you ride with being willing to help you and not cause more problems. For example, if you need to do some circles and get your horse focused on you again, making sure that the other rider(s) are ok to stop as many times as it takes and not walk off and cause more anxiety in your horse. Good communication with humans and horses is important and it took me a long time to get that.
Oh yes trail partners are very important for sure. Thanks for watching.
I’ve actually had to do circles around the group !
Ya man.
My horse wont slow down. We will be walking all the sudden and when i ask her to trot, she takes off. I dont know what to do? Any tips.
When she takes off slowly pick up on one rein and bend her down to a stop. Then let the rein and go and if she takes off repeat until she doesn’t do it. Go slow and don’t jerk her around.
Would you share the make and brand of your coat. It looks like a great winter jacket! Great teaching video. Very clear. Very concise. I am sharing this with my students.
I’m sorry I do not remember the make of that coat. I did have it for a long time and it was a good one. Thanks for sharing! Also check out our www.patreon.com/remounthorsemanship for many many in-depth videos.
👍👍 The less I ride in a straight line and the more I ride in circles/serpentines/leg yields, the lighter my horse becomes.
That’s a good thing for sure👍
Good Advice.
Good points here Richard. Good to see you on here more.
Thank you sir. It’s a bear, but I guess we must!😂
"Enter through the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and spacious and broad is the way that leads away to destruction, and many are those who are entering through it. But the gate is narrow (contracted by pressure) and the way is straitened and compressed that leads away to life, and few are those who find it." + Matthew 7:13-14 (AMPC) As soon as I read the words narrow gate, this Scripture was brought to mind. Jesus lovingly warned us to stick to the narrow way, which leads to life. The broad way leads to destruction. THANK YOU, KING JESUS, FOR YOUR WARNINGS AND INSTRUCTIONS TO US, WHICH YOU ISSUE FOR OUR BENEFIT AND SUCCESS IN LIVING THE LIFE THAT YOU WANT TO GIVE TO EACH OF US!!! 🙌🏼 🙌🏼 🙌🏼
The first need is relaxation; then they can learn. Not before.
There’s one before that also. But some things I look for before collection are what I stated. Not necessarily in order but things I look for. Thanks👌
@remounthorsemanship6592 oh, I wasn't arguing. I was telling what works for me, and for others that I've seen. It seems to be easy for people to overlook relaxation.
@@JohnAmidon-c6r it really is and lots do overlook it. The one thing that I put before that is rapport. Just having a genuinely good harmonious relationship with your horse. I think a lot of folks miss this one also, unfortunately a lot of trainers also.
@remounthorsemanship6592 very true!
Excellent video!
thank you.
Awesome that a mare who seemingly hasn't had experience going through narrow openings and came from a big ranch is good at figuring out how to get through. Nice description of sending versus leading a horse. Thank you.
Too much bit 😮
Some might think that but it’s not. It’s a young horse with a snaffle. Very shortly after this she was just fine. Moving out and steady. Thanks for for the comment 😲
I like your idea of wrapping the lead rope around and around the thick wood rails of your round pen. I'd do that if I could, but very few people have a setup like that -- horizontal rails strong enough to withstand the pull-back weight of a horse. Many have vertical posts set in concrete, however. Ideal for any kind tie ring. So your emphasis on the various ways a Blocker Tie Ring can be used to tie a horse is well placed. It's all I use.
Fantastic! Thank you I will try this on my mare She literally spins her butt to the outside so she can strike with her left lead when I’m trying for the right lead!
You’re welcome.
Thank you. I like it.
You bet.
👏👏👏👏💯
Very clear and concise! Thank you! Makes it easier to open the gate under saddle.

I see her chomping on the bit too .
Yep she did. The head tossing and mouthing went away after a short while.
Hey, this stuff looks awesome-but for future videos, would it be possible for you to wear a microphone on your person? Maybe it's just me and my hearing, but I have to crank my speaker up all the way in order to hear all your words. And captions aren't 100% reliable, but thanks for those! 👍
Glad it was helpful. Please check out www.Patreon.com/remounthorsemanship for many more videos.
I get the sense that this mare has been drilled in canter in a figure of eight pattern. She is anticipating when she cross fires?
I don’t know if she has. No way of telling.
