The class 66 idles extremely similarly to the SD70ACe in the US
They have the same prime mover, the 710.
@@amessmanaffirmative! If I'm not mistaken it's the same version of the 710 motor as well. Though, class 66 units definitely sound like they have been silenced with a muffler or something. The SD70ACes I hear all the time here stateside are tremendously louder.
@@scenicdepictionsofchicagolife SD70ACe has a 16-710, these have a 12-710. More like the engine in an F59PHI.
I've heard these referred to as "ying yings" before, I can hear why. Based on the EMD 710 prime mover. That "ying" you are hearing is the turbocharger's planetary gearbox driving it at low engine speeds (gear driven until at high throttle as its a 2 stroke).
