How to Trap Floats When Knitting Colourwork | Lucinda Makes
Переглядів 127Рік тому
This tutorial demonstrates how to trap or catch floats when knitting stranded colourwork. When knitting colourwork you will have strands of yarn across the back of your fabric which are called floats. It's usually advised to trap any particularly long floats, so that these strands of yarn don't get snagged and to help avoid tension issues. For the written instructions visit the tutorial page on...

How to Purl Two Together Through the Back Loop (p2tog-tbl) | Lucinda Makes

    Thank you so much for this visual! I'm a novice knitter. I've been picking up the stitches on the sides of the opening, but then my thumb doesn't look right. This however was a perfect tutorial to show me why, & where I was going wrong. It took some searching to find the right video, I'm so happy! 🤗

    what thread do I use to continue knitting? My pattern told me to secure the first leg and keep thread long, but also to cut it so I have no thread on my right needle to continue knitting. What do I do ?

    • @LucindaMakes
      @LucindaMakes Рік тому

      It’ll depend on the pattern you’re following. In a lot of cases when you return to stitches that have been stored on waste yarn you’ll need to join a new strand of yarn when you begin knitting them again. However, a pattern may specifically tell you to leave yarn attached, or not to break your yarn, or to break it after leaving a certain length to use, so in those cases you wouldn’t need to join a new strand of yarn.

      @@LucindaMakes Thank you for your help! This particular pattern is a bit vague in that area, or it says "Break the strand and fasten securely" then just goes straight to doing the arms. I am making a little monster, and this is the first time I've done a pattern like this, also the first time using double pointed needles. It has been a great learning curve, and have picked up A lot but this part has gotten me! appreciate you responding, Great channel. <3

      @@MadelineReid-y7r With that specific instruction phrasing I would break the yarn, weave in that end and then continue knitting with a new strand of yarn. Good luck with your project, I’m sure it’ll turn out great and I’m glad I could help!

    Is there any way you could do a video showing the technique used for each instruction found on knitting patterns? Like increase, decrease etc? I’m just learning and am struggling with the knitting patterns 🙈

    • @LucindaMakes
      @LucindaMakes 2 роки тому

      Hi Laura, where instructions tell you to increase / decrease there’s actually a lot of different stitches you could choose for this. In my own patterns I always specify the kind of increase / decrease to use, but I know some patterns can be more ambiguous and leave it up to the knitter to decide. I have individual videos for some different increases / decreases and there are playlists for these on my channel called ‘Knitting Increases’ and ‘Knitting Decreases’, so you might find it useful to take a look at these and perhaps knit a small swatch to try out some of the stitches and see which ones you like the look of for your project. I would probably recommend starting with M1L and M1R for increasing and k2tog and ssk for decreasing, as these are very commonly used and give a nice result. If there are any other stitches / techniques you’d like to see a video for, feel free to let me know and I’ll do my best to help!
