How to add geometric patterns to your chalk painted furniture
I really love the color of the fabric and chair paint. Thanks for the instructive video. 😀
I painted a chest a darker blue with chalk paint I used a water based satin clear coat after, it looks great on the sides and front, but the top has visible streaks and I used the DB top coat with blue sponge even added a little paint color to it and misted..I did quite a few coats on top sanding between hoping I could perfect it. Can I lightly sand the top only put another coat of paint on the top and use hemp oil, or will it not work with all the coats of clear underneath unless I sand to the original color on top. What’s your suggestion I can send a pic if needed. Thanks Michele
Does hemp seed oil go bad? I have a container from a few years ago I’d love to use, but will it be toxic to inhale?
Hi, I'd baby oil as good to use?
I have a chair like this and it looks nice with double cording on it. Trim was used on it previously. 😊
Ive been using chalk paint on my birdhouses. Of course they fade out too fast been outside. Do you think using hemp oil over chalk paint on my birdhouses would help seal them to last longer outdoors! Or what kind of non toxic paint or sealer would be best for preserving and protecting them. I did a little research on mineral paints, what di you think about that?
I have a very large table I want to do… can you do it in sections that will all come together?
I haven’t ever tried that… when I’ve had a large surface I pour in multiple spots at the same time to cover the entire area
@@LynWilsonOriginals I was worried the paint might dry before I could get to every section.
I love this video. You're so relatable that I feel like I'm in a class. And those colors 😍
Thank you!
What if you acquire an antique chair with arms, and don’t have the original fabric to use as a template? How do you figure the measurements/shape to fit correctly?
Hi, Lynn! Did you seal this with anything? Your tutorial is great! I will be giving it a try soon. 🤞 @intimerewinds
I just used Dixie Belle’s satin clear coat but I did try sealing some smaller things with epoxy. It looks gorgeous but you need to do it it a dust free environment…and no shop pets around! Mine had dog hair in it!
what kind of adhesive would you recommend to use on faux leather to attach trim to ? Someone told me a hot glue gun might be too hot for it and melt it due to it happening to them. thanks
I’m not sure…I’ve never worked with that material before. If it’s double welting I’ve heard of people stapling in the “groove” but I have not tried this.
Thank you for going into detail, very helpful
Great tips! Thank you! 😊
Thank you so much!
This is so helpful! Thank you for all the step by step tips!
Thank you so much!
P.S. it's not as easy as it looks but you did a great job!
Thank you
I heard you just fine! I think you are very sweet. This is something I have been trying to do. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge, I appreciate you doing this very much!
That means a lot to me❤️
can't hear you too well. Sorry.
Thank you. That’s a helpful comment and I will focus on speaking louder in the future
Hi Lynn, love your hard work and success. Have you ever done a video on how to remove fabric from chairs? I have a Queen Anne I’d like to reupholster
I’ve done some lives on my FB page but don’t think I’ve done one for UA-cam. That’s a good suggestion!
Great video! Love finished piece, looks amazing! 👌👌🖤🍀
Thank you so much!
Great video Lyn
Thank you so much!
Thank you for sharing this. It's so well explained. I can't wait to try it.
Thank you so much!
If I scuffed sanded my paint can apply this? Looks like what you have done. Also how do you remove this oil if I needed to?
I lightly sand my chalk paint to take out any roughness. I use Dixie Belle’s applicator pad to remove excess oil. I do this after I apply, a few hours afterwards and the next day. I keep wiping until it’s no longer absorbed. If you needed to remove all the oil, you could try something like a Lysol wipe which has alcohol or mineral spirits but then you would likely have to repaint.
@@LynWilsonOriginals thank you so much for responding back! If there’s brush marks will the oil make this stand out?
@@suesherman3587 the finish is not shiny when all the oil is expressed and a matte finish will be better than a glossy finish if you’re worried about brush strokes
@@LynWilsonOriginals thank you again! I was worried you’ll see this or any other flaws that are possibly a little rough.
@@LynWilsonOriginals Morning Lyn, I applied the hemp oil on my black coffee table yesterday, wiped back and let sit overnight. I still see streaks on the table, is this normal? This table is for a client so I'm really nervous about selling this to her with streaks. Will it eventually dry? Thank you again for all your help.
Ok, so I decided to go out on a wim and paint my laminate cabinets with black chalk paint & they were gorgeous until I painted a clear polycrylic top coat and I can see brush marks & haziness in them. Thankfully I only done one set & so I went n got some hempseed oil to top the rest of cabinets. my question is, how can I fix the ones I’ve top coated with the polycrylic?
I would repaint over the polycrylic. If it’s really slick and you’re worried about your paint adhering you could scuff sand with a 150 grit sanding sponge. Make sure you wipe off any dust before you paint. Hope that helps
@@LynWilsonOriginals ok thank you so much girl! 😉
Do they get hard? Or stay rubbery? Is it the chemical reaction with the rubber cement?
I love this!!! You did a fantastic job.
Thank you!
Thank you!
Glad I found your site!
Thank you so much!
Do you know how long it takes to cure on stained wood?
I have only used over chalk mineral paint and raw wood...I’ll see if Dixie Belle has an answer
@@LynWilsonOriginals thank you!! That would be amazing. Have you ever had the wood bleed through after finishing with hemp oil?
Would have been nicer to see end result. But thanks
You’re welcome! You can see the finished look on my IG feed instagram.com/lyn_wilson_originals/
He’s my shop buddy!
The Cat photobombs so precious. Thank you for the info!
Can you put a transfer on AFTER you put the oil on or is it just to greasy?
I would not recommend it until your oil is completely cured...30 days or so. Anecdotally I spilled oil on a transfer and it peeled off. I have not tried it but I’ve heard mineral spirits will remove the oil...my concern is it would take my paint off too
I have painted a table using chalk paint and I want to seal it now and make it more durable by using an oil based varnish (polyurethane) How long should I let the chalk paint dry for, before applying the varnish ? thank you
The time it takes to dry depends on the brand of paint and weather conditions. I use Dixie Belle which dries very fast but on humid days in the summer it can take 2 days for me to feel like my paint is really dry. With Dixie Belle I usually wait 24 hours
Hi, is there a pile on the surface of the cloth?
Not enough that it would impact the direction of my fabric. For fabrics with a noticeable pile you would want to make sure the pile would be smoothed when sitting.
I have a large craft hot glue gun. Would you recommend a better, more of a tool like glue gun?
I’m just using one I got at Hobby Lobby...Sure Bonder
Your tutorial was very helpful and easy to understand. I have 6 cane back Eastlake chairs that I want to do grain sack upholstered seats on. I’m inspired! Thank you
Thank you so much!
Nice job. Looks great!!!
Thank you Bette!
Love Boss. Thanks for the tip about shellac as well. I’ve had to use that step on a couple mahogany pieces. Also, I love that transfer! So fun!
Thank you!
Great video! I subscribed!!
