Roaring Tigers Garage
United States
Приєднався 13 гру 2015
We are a group of high performance drivers that get together to perform vehicle maintenance to keep our cars in top running condition for track days. While wrenching, we may have a race on the TV, grab a beer, and tell tales about how fast we were at the last driving event!
The name origin of “Roaring Tigers Garage” comes from the combination of Ferdinand Porsche’s 1942 Tank design for the infamous Panzer Tiger during World War II, and the subsequent “roar” of our magnificent modern-day Porsche engines (or the massive roar when firing the tank gun).

Exactly what I needed! Thanks
Hi thank you sooo much, some people say need to wait two weeks before opening is this true? Thanks so much best videos
Great Video. The details and tips helped me to change out my top on my 1998 Boxster. Had very little issues and it turned out amazing. Thank you.
Awesome. I have to replace my rotors and pads this week. How do you like the rotors that you used in this video and thank you for a informative video.
Issue: After replacing top, when raising roof the B Pillar & Roof Frame don’t align correctly they are separated by 4mm instead of flush Details: 1. 1999 Boxster 2. Replaced roof with Sunset AutoTopsDirect Acoustic Plastic Window Top 3. It seems like there is an obstruction as I cant apply force for it to align Appreciate any guidance to fix this.
Sorry to hear you are having some challenges. Unfortunately has been many years since I did this work, and no longer have a Boxster available to try to understand the situation. Wishing for your “a-ha” moment!
Great vid. Thanks for posting
I guess I’m the only person who has male threaded tie rod ends
good video. thanks!
Ive never used drain plug seal when I change my oil.957 cayenne. No oil spills ever. No clue why people use those. You're talking about the thin copper washer right?
Awesome to hear! Makes me happy y’all are taking on this doable DIY
Just finished installing the top on my '99 Boxster. THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!
I’m debating on weather or not I’m capable of doing this myself or taking it to the shop
I was also told from the Porsche dealer it was normal in my Spyder but it’s REALLY annoying.
Steven - I know this is 7 years old but I'm in Houston as well, and i was wondering if there is any chance you guys offer help to locals (if I brought the car to you). Or would you do a top swap for a charge? I'm new to the Boxster as this is my Daughter's car and close to a project car. If you don't want to mess with it, is there anyone in town you recommend. I'm out I-10 West at the Betway. Thanks!!
Did you replace the o ring ? If so do you have the part number for it ?
Hi, I enjoyed the vid v much. I have one question. Can a Gen 2 987 Caymen with no Limted Slip Diff be retrofitted with an LSD? How difficult or easy is the job?
Thank you for doing this. Took me about 12 hours to complete but never would have done it without this video. I did cut a little too much off the corners but I got it tucked in with some extra care. Also, because I could see the end result I sped up my removal with a razor. Cut the whole top off the. The parts were easier to see.
how many miles does this car have? like 13? :D
Thank you, Steven, for creating this outstanding video. I replaced the top on my Boxster following this video, and I'm currently replacing the top on my son's Boxster. I don't think I could have done it without this video - the written instructions from the top supplier do not make much sense. The step at about minute 5:00 in the video where the cord (with fabric sewn around a plastic cord) goes into the vertical metal slot is difficult, I struggled with this the first three times, then the fourth time went much easier using these steps: 1) The plastic cord sticks out at each end of the fabric, that cord on the leading edge tends to come out of the open areas of the slot, then jams. Push the plastic cord back until it's flush with the fabric on the leading side; let the extra cord hang out the back end. The fabric helps keep the plastic cord from slipping out of the groove. 2) The fabric is not stitched tight against the cord all the way to the end, this can cause the fabric to flare out in the open areas of the slot and also jam. Apply a little bit of superglue at the fabric end, clamp the fabric together and let it cure. This keeps the fabric tight against the cord while sliding into the slot. 3) Apply a little vaseline in the slot, especially each location where the open areas close back together, and on the fabric that slides into the slot. 4) Don't tug hard on the top fabric below the cord, that can tear the cord flap where it is sewn to the top. Instead, hold the top with your entire hand where the cord flap is sewn to spread the load when you tug on it. Don't tug hard in any case; if it's stuck, back up a little and try again. 5) Check that the entire length of the cord is straight while sliding it into the slot. If you're thinking "oh no, don't use superglue or vaseline", those were both suggested by tech support at the top supplier and they helped tremendously with this step. I hope this helps anyone else struggling with sliding the cord into the slot.
Lon, happy to hear this video provided the confidence for you to do this work! Thank you for the detailed supplemental guidance regarding the cord.
hardest engine pull Iv ever seen Fuck that, hope I never have to do one. Leanr a lot about how to work on a Porche if I get one, though.
That 13mm bolt on the linkage at the box is drilled for a safety wire !!!!! Use it !!!!!😊😊😊😊😊
Thank you Art. We did use safety wire but missed showing/explaining that in the video. Good eye!!
14:48 were you able to find a plastic bracket that goes on top of the rooftop mines is broken. I can’t seem to find anywhere to replace that part.
Great video, but turn off the damn music! It's annoying as hell while trying to listen.
Ha! yup. learned that a while back from feedback. thank you.
Why not leave the paper on top of the decal until the decal has setup and won’t move any longer
Baby shampoo in the spray bottle or alcohol with the water??
alcohol with the water
Can PPF be installed over the top of the decals to protect them?
Excellent video! Thank you very much!
glad this worked well for you
We’re u able to find that pice on top of roof top that u had to glue together with fiber glass mines comply broken and trying to find one is has become challenging
Great video, I realize it’s been a while, but hoping you or some of your viewers could help. I got the new top on and it’s nice and tight and looks pretty good if I say so myself….but the window trim pieces where the cable tucks in behind…my cable will not go behind the time piece towards the rear unless I physically tuck it in and then it stays in place and looks great. It almost like the cable is too long, but I know that’s not the case. I can’t figure out what I’m not doing correctly. I’ve kept it closed for about a month thinking it would form into place. I hope what I’m describing makes sense, any help would be appreciated. Thanks to all in advance!
Randy, thanks for posting the comment/query. As you state, it has been a long time since I did this work, but I did not have any issues similar to what you describe. Honestly I can’t visualize your issue but perhaps one of the many followers (and Porsche DIYers) have insight!
Thanks for the video...I'm in the middle of this job installing a Sierra top...I did notice you put the star washer on in the wrong order. It looks like you didn't have it touching the fabric? On mine it was screw, hook, washer, fabric. You had screw, washer, hook, fabric.
Good eye! can't say I recall this detail as it was many years ago. I haven't had any failures, so no worries on that front....for me. Those of you doing this job, please take note on the order when you disassemble.
@@roaringtigersgarage4672 It's a small detail, but the job does require a lot of detailed work. I've been watching and rewatching your series and Jason's garage ua-cam.com/video/ML-rIbnx5ec/v-deo.html endlessly, while I finish my install (I'm almost finished). Best regards from Japan !
...the Top is less complicated then the top on my my 79 super beetle !
...great vid
Question: Is it just that 17mm bolt that holds the axle stubs into the diff? Good video. Thanks
Yes, a single 17mm bolt. the axle stubs are splined, so the bolt is just to keep the stub from sliding off the spline.....although nowhere to go if the half-shaft is in place at both ends.
Got the job done really appreciate it!
0:55 by the text book should the wheels not be off the ground when removing Centerlock wheels? And how do you push the lock in and then give it a quarter turn; are they not splined and the socket pushes the lock in when it is on the Centerlock nut.
Great video very clear. You make it look easy, I know it's not. Now I have to do it myself.
Great video!!! I just changed the Gearbox oil on my 986 Boxter S 2003 6 speed without any problem. Is the Differential part of the gearbox or should be separate oil change?
only 1 reservoir in the gearbox/diff!
After consulting, 5 lesbian friends all agree: The Meeting and Week One is very common amongst the Gay Women World of Dating. Except (!) the "let's get married" part has been thought out, and it's not asked or agreed upon lightly. We Homos have much to learn from Lesbian Authenticity and their lack of relationship-killing FOMO.
"Just pull hard" - I broke half of my door doing this. The plastic surrounding the clips broke instead of the clips coming out.
Perhaps i should have clarified. been a long time since i did the video and don't recall if I addressed this. It is the only way to pop the panel away from the door. Unfortunately the clips a plastic (and old) and some will break. easy to find online and inexpensive. thank you for your feedback.
Hi there, do you have a video or instructions on how to remove the bin lid on the door? Cheers
Steven - Thanks for the great detailed videos! Just bought a Boxster that needs some TLC. I was able to replace the window regulator with ease watching your video. I took off the soft top last night and will embark on putting the replacement top on this week. I was skeptical of doing this myself until watching your video! Thanks again from a Texan living in Wisconsin!! Ciao
What a PITA lol ...makes me wanna shop Cayman instead ....as much as love a rag top
@4:48 You should be concerned about off-gassing. I've heard brake fluid is extremely hazardous to health. I bought one of those $100 fluid extractors from Harbor Freight and I gotta tell you, best decision of my life. I wish I bought one sooner.
Great video man thanks 🍻

Will a 2002 boxer 2.7L engine swap into 2006 boxer that also has 2.7L?
I don’t know this answer for sure but I would assume the basic geometry will be the same. Even within generation model years there are some kind of changes but I would expect those (if any ) to be attainable.
Hey nice work. I have blown speakers I need to replace and now have an excellent idea of what I'm up against and how to sort it. Thankyou...
Hey man, I just got a beautiful Porsche boxter 986 ,1999 model. Are there any differences in repealing a Porsche boxter s and Porsche boxter convertible top? Best, Maik
The process and materials is exactly the same for any version of 986. Likely the same for 987 as well
@@roaringtigersgarage4672 thanks for the quick answer. Sorry for the typo but you get where i was going at! Thanks ! I am not sure if I can repair it myself, I don’t have any of those tools. How many days did it take you to get the roof fixed ? It seems like it took at least 3 days or so.?! Do you think it’s worth buying the roof myself and going to a repair service to get it fixed ? I probably save some money by being able to decide which quality roof I want and I avoid any upcharges from the “fixing place” regarding the roof ..?
@@BerinMaik Plan on 2 days. Take your time and don't rush it (this is good advice for any car maintenance/repair). It did take me 3 days because of the repairs I had to make to the plastic bits (reinforcement and epoxy. want to be sure epoxy is fully cured before it is stressed).
Nope. exactly the same
@@roaringtigersgarage4672 hey, is there a way to only replace the foldable back window of the convertible? My convertible is pretty good and doesn’t really need to get replaced. But the plastic window is foggy and you can’t see trough at all. Do you know any tricks to fix it , or any ways to replace the “window”? Thank you so much for all the answers and the communication! ❤️🙌 Best, Maik
Thanks for explaining how to remove the vacuum fitting on the passenger side filter housing, almost every other tutorial I watched seems to omit that step and it is not that simple to remove it.!!!
Thank you for your time sir.
