Hello everyone, welcome back! Hi everyone, and welcome to yet another adventure! Honestly, this one never should've happened...and yet it did! This hospital was built in the early 1900s, and was used as a labor farm and asylum for the "colored insane" of the state. Up until its closure in the early 2000s, the hospital was known for deplorable conditions and treatment of patients, overcrowding, and horrific practices such as...

The mirrors don’t have real glass in them, do they? I’d be claustrophobic in one of those tiny cells. Interesting history of it’s closing. @@birdnest5814 Hey, great to hear from you, thank you so much! No, I don't think they're glass mirrors, they tend to be highly polished metal bolted in the wall, perhaps with reflective tape over them. It really is crazy how the system "works"; so much waste of money and resources, while so many suffer and can't get the basics, or the help and rehabilitation they need. I thought the left behinds were pretty cool, too. Interesting to see all the books and games in the cells; newspaper clippings and pictures, and the writings on the walls. I know I'd be claustrophobic in there too, especially with a bunkmate and a slit for a window. @@birdnest5814 Yeah, the real adventure was getting back down...I'd forgotten my entry was in the middle of the hall, and nearly panicked about the locked doors (knowing logically that they'd been locked, and that I couldn't have been locked out). Worst case scenario, there had been a broken window up there that led to the roof, with a 15-20 foot drop, could've done it but fortunately didn't have to. The medical labs were so cool! The urine samples were likely used for UTI/STD screening, or even drug testing (especially during intake, or parole hearings). I've seen jails where they have a corridor behind the cells, where (so I've been told) the "screws" can test the outflow water of each cell, in case drugs were smuggled in. I suppose a pre-war asylum just isn't an asylum without that bile green paint...really gives off that "you're here forever" vibe. Sadly, patients often didn't come here for treatment and release...it really was a lifelong incarceration. Of course overcrowding was a constant problem (Kirkbride buildings were originally designed to hold maybe 240 patients...at Trans Allegheny, the population at its peak was 2400 patients) It's horrific to think of those crammed into tiny rooms, or those alcoves, beds side by side, people crammed in like sardines; hungry, scared, and uncomfortable... Strange they painted over most of it. Wish there had been lots of old equipment, but enjoyed the peely paint and general decay. So nice of you to give shoutouts to channels you enjoy. Cool you saw the sticker. That caged in porch was awesome. Thanks for the video of this place. Hope you’re doing well and enjoying your weekend, my dear friend 😊💕👍😎✌️

@@birdnest5814 Thank you so much! Yeah, my quirkiness knows no bounds...I almost wanted to shoot the entry, but nobody needs to see that (That's what the 3 stooges are for 😉). I really loved this one; a nice trade off, not so much equipment though the wheelchair was great, but lots of overgrowth and decay without too much smashage. Just the architecture was pretty amazing, the quad and cage were my favorite, too. I'm glad I found that sticker, too, it's my pleasure to give credit to other explorers and UA-camrs, so many great channels out there, it's nice to have that sense of camaraderie and community in a hobby. I'm doing pretty good, hope you are too, and hope you've had a wonderful weekend! @@rhondaz356 Thank you for joining up once again (and from a safer, less asbestos and mold riddled vantage)! I know I'll never get the appeal of the smash and tag thing...about as close as I, and most real explorers get is writing on a chalkboard. Even then I feel almost bad about that. Kinda cool to see little stickers or mementos left by other explores (like Ms Marlo), though. Awesome explore! The video came out perfect. Some shade and shadows go so well with this decrepit old place. I always enjoy seeing the old medical equipment. Most TB sanatoriums closed in the 50’s, since the discovery of streptomycin in 1943. A lot of the equipment in there, looked to be from the 30’s - 50’s. That old wooden wheelchair was fantastic. Yes, I remember that episode from the Office. What came to my mind was when Nellie Oleson, from Little House on the Prairie, used a similar one. I enjoy your corny jokes. Probably a tension reliever for you. I know I tend to rely on humor in stressful situations. I would’ve left there as soon as I saw those basement lights, if not before😳 I hope your boss watched this. It sure highlights your level of dedication and perseverance, not to mention your nads of steel😂 I loved how excited you were about the decay and machines. Each new floor seemed to get creepier as you went up. Yep, that camera is hard to miss. Should’ve thrown a sheet over your head and then waved at it😂 Good to see you posting again. Take care, my wonderful friend. Enjoy your summer 😊💕👍👏

@@birdnest5814 Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed this; when I reviewed it, I was more pleased with it than I thought...I'd agree, shadows are better than oversaturated lighting. Thank you for the info about TB; I wasn't sure about how old the equipment was, or what the name of the drug was. Yes, I do remember Little House on the Prairie, though I didn't watch it much, but my dad did...I recall the little girl who went blind from (I think) scarlet fever. Glad you like my humor, it's definitely a stress reliever, it can be hard to manage situational awareness, stealth, anxiety, excitement, and video shooting all at the same time, while providing entertainment and information at the same time...ahhh, coping mechanisms 😵‍💫🙃. I had to laugh later, seeing the basement light, hearing the noises, and the creepy factor adding up, but I just kept going. Got out unscathed, except some poison ivy from climbing the wall (I hadn't identified it til I was mostly over the wall). Thank you for your kind words, I love hearing from you (and the sheet suggestion was hilarious 😂), hope you have a great week, and are staying cool and hydrated in this heat. Each floor seemed to get more decrepit the higher you went. There were a lot of things left, it seems, but also a lot of empty spaces. You're very brave. Yeah, the graffiti was unfortunate...I'd definitely rather do an untouched location, but if it's gotta have graffiti, let it be artistic rather than just tags and offensive junk.
